Hopefully they'll mass produce the 20th anniversary controller. Wouldn't resist that. They released comemorative themes for PS4, PS3 and PSVita. The PS4 even has the PS1 startup sound.
Knowing how Sony works with limited editions, they'll have about 12,000 for Japan, and 300 for the rest of the world. I was aware of the Playstation during its heyday, I just didn't have one. Plus I've been scolded here for using PS1 to denote the PSPhat. What is it with gaming companies and releasing new hardware to screw up the name of their old hardware (go into any game store 5 or so years ago and ask for Xbox One stuff and they'll give you a Duke controller).
Yeah the official unboxing video states 12,300 globally. https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=_iTw4EL_gAc
Aaaahh.. The Playstation soon after to be called PSX by the warez scene. Bought it on launch date played Ridge Racer till I finished it completely, the only game I ever truly mastered (Really Neo style like mastered).. I could have sworn I hit that helicopter while in a jump. Resident Evil, Pandemonium, Legacy of Kain, Gex. Great console, great games. Then one day I bought a programmer from Willem and some PIC12C508A and started collecting HK Silvers O.O
My first experience of the PS1 was at a school charity event where we had a fayre to raise money for some cause. Whilst most kids did raffles and apple dunking etc, one kid brought in his PS1 and charged 50p for a go on Manx TT, the only game he had. I didn't know much about the machine at the time as I could never afford gaming magazines and if I did ever buy any it'd be Sega Power (being a Sonic nut I was anxiously awaiting the arrival of the Saturn in my house). When I first heard of the PlayStation I assumed it was going to be like an arcade machine (the word station meaning something large in my mind). I got my first PS1 as an xmas present from my parents when I was about 12-13 while we on holiday in the UAE back in late '98. First games were Fifa 97, Demo One and Rage Racer the latter of which I played religiously. When we were in the shop the seller showed off the FMV of Final Fantasy VII, and whilst my dad was impressed my mum decided not to buy it as it looked too complex for my younger brother. I ended up being fascinated with that game and in the end I began skipping meals at school to rent the game for £2 a day with my lunch money (I got all the way to disc 3 doing this, I must have spent a fortune and lost a lot of weight). I eventually bought the game using birthday money and still have that copy to this day along with my memory card with a complete save on it (the PS1 has long gone). Eventually we got that PS1 chipped and a guy my mum knew would do games for £5. At the time I didn't really understand that it was illegal but man were they great days. Alundra, GTA, Syphon Filter, MGS, Breath of Fire 3, Ridge Racer Type 4. Some real happy memories in a time where I didn't give a shit about "which console was better" I was just grateful to have something current gen with plenty replay value. My MegaDrive and Amiga were always still close and hand but longevity in a game was rarely present. When the PS1 generation started to give way to the next, I abandoned the idea of picking up a PS2 simply because of the Sonic Adventure screenshots I'd seen at the time.
There's no Playstation version of Manx TT. There's the arcade (Model 2) version and the Saturn version, and apparently there was a PC port, too. There was never a Playstation version though; as far as I'm aware, Sega never released any games for the PS1.
Do want! 12,300 is a fairly large number. I think anyone whose willing to pony up the $500 will get one.
Hahaha, most likely. Considering the PS4 is $600 here, I'm guessing the 20th Anniversary will be $650
Reminds me of buying limited coins from the us mint, they will all be instantly gone in minutes and a lucky few who have the patience for the slow loading site will score one.
I remember wanting a Sega Saturn so bad but by the time I could afford either console the Saturn was as good as dead. That's my sad story. I ended up getting a ps1 because that's what was prevalent & affordable & I wanted to play Street Fighter Alpha (the irony!) at home. Flawed as it was I really enjoyed it. Castlevania SOTN & Metal Gear Solid were the highlights overall & I do own a Saturn now so it's all good. It was already mentioned but in Australia those systems were 7 or 800 bucks initially and $400 when I ended up buying one (seems crazy in retrospect). I did end up going Dreamcast only until that went tits-up & now I own everything and have been liberated from bias. PS2 had a lot of nice Arcade titles & a ton of great imports I played the system as recently as last month. I've enjoyed all my Sony systems but going predominantly ps3 last gen was a bit of a shit, so much waiting around for installs etc when the 360 took one tenth of the time for the same sort of thing. PS4 & Vita are much nicer in this regard, a step in the right direction for sure.
Hmm then it must have been something similar. I always just assumed it was!! Gah, my memories are corrupting!
For me, one of the most memorable things about the original Playstation was learning about games through demo discs. They always had interesting menus with catchy music, and were like an experience in themselves. I realize PS2 still had quite a few of these, but I guess it was just a pretty new thing for me at the time.
I couldn't agree more. On a vastly different note: it's time for the 'S-C-S-I' vs. Scuzzy' DEATHMATCH. Pick a side and fight fight fight. After the smoke clears and everyone gets tired of making pointless rebuttals, only one will stand. Will it be you?
