Ok so you are a semi-hater, you see them rolling and you semi hatin' em Semi-haters are gonna semi-hate
I never said FFXIII was a cookie cutter cut and paste game, I said the only thing it had going for it was it's graphics (the music is pretty cool too). I have certainly played the game, which is why I say it sucks. The battle system was not fun, original, or innovative. All it amounted to was pressing X (or A) repeatedly to select auto-battle while occasionally switching paradigms. It was not a breath of fresh air, it was just the same turn based formula with a few minor additions that make gullible fools like you think it has substance when it doesn't. The characters... don't make me laugh. The characters were your typical JRPG characters with little to no redeeming qualities. Sazh was the only one that didn't really get on my nerves throughout the game, for the most part he was pretty much the voice of reason among a cast of whiny, melodramatic losers. Since I already mentioned it, Resonance of Fate had only three main characters yet they were all likeable and had their quirks, both good and bad. I'll take three likeable main characters over 1 or 2 likeable main characters with the rest being annoying dorks who brood or whine over every little thing. Oh, and now I'm a hipster just because I don't like FF13? I've got news for you, and this may come as a shock. The truth is... I like good games. Yup, it's true. The fact that FF13 is a "mainstream" game doesn't matter to me. It could be an unknown game unrelated to Square-Enix and I'd still say the only redeeming qualities are it's music and graphics. I like Mass Effect, Elder Scrolls and lots of other "mainstream" games. Am I still a hipster/indie douchebag?
Thats true the saturn had some of the best games ever but at the same time most of those saturn gems never saw an english release on saturn which is sad becuse those games had major potential in the western market (Sakura Taisen anybody?).
