That's what eurogamer says... A simple cheap one for casual gamers, kinda like a Wii And an actual nextgen console with a 6-core CPU and 2GBs of RAM, no idea about the GPU TBH here, this is a BAD idea: in any case M$ should make an even cheaper version of the X360 and keep supporting that console as the cheap option while launching the new xbox. Launching 2 new consoles is only going to confuse people, it never works. I guess nobody at M$ heard of the 32X and the Saturn, and what happened to SEGA back then
I don't think it's a bad idea at all (assuming its true). I just hope that they won't charge a ridiculous amount of extra money for the "gamer" console (knowing Microsoft, they probably will). I just hope the standard XBOX will come with 1 GB RAM and a decent GPU. But it's kind of funny how they say the premium XBOX will come with an optical drive, implying the other one wont. Maybe they are looking at doing digital download, or some other wacky style of getting games.
Intel, ppc or maybe ARM ? I realy like arm... but Hell, I wait with buying a kinect. Hope it will still work on my Xenon X360
At first it seemed stupid to me, then I realized that a Kinect costs almost as much as a Wii anyway...
The article said something about a set-top box, I picture a XBMC with a kinect and angry birds... BTW, now that they mentioned a 6-core CPU with a ATI/AMD GPU and backwards compatibility for the highend nextXbox I think M$ passed on the ARM option If it was an ARM it would be an 8-core SoC with PowerVR GPUs built-in
Lets squash these rumors right now Halo 4 next year 360 Why kill those sales with a new system that won't make money for 2-3 years?
I'd like to think they'd just keep supporting the X360 while they introduce their new console. XBLA has a decent library at this point, and I think MS could make a lot of money off of a standalone digital console if they sold it for under $100 (maybe not now, but within the next few years). The idea of introducing several consoles within a very close time-span reminds me of Atari or Sega, and in most of their instances, the failure of one usually backfired on the other.
Well the PS3 has 256 MB. But it is clocked at a high speed. I think  Either way, the programmer(s) must really know how to bank it :-0 *EDIT* I smell another video game crash...
Definite rumors after the rumor a few days ago posted here: http://www.winrumors.com/microsoft-preparing-a-new-xbox-model-for-2012-designed-for-windows-8/ Here it says they are prepairing a new Xbox 360 which will run Windows 8 for 2012.
Just like there will be a PC based Xbox 360, right? There were so many rumors about the 360 leading up to its launch that people seem to have forgotten. And the PS3 has a total of 512mb of ram, just split between system and video. Edit:
There are games still being released for the XBOX 360 in 2012. I can't actually see this new XBOX coming out so soon. Besides it will most likely just be kinect with some sort of difference. As long as the system doesn't cost the same as a high end PC the public will be able to buy it. These are just rumours anyway... A good example of this would be SONY and their PSP "Street" and the PSVita.
Probably a load of crap. Microsoft knew early on with the 360 that by allowing people to go HDDless and use a memory card they might have trouble later on. You can see this with the XBLA limitations going from 64mb up to whatever it is now, unlimited? Then with the NXE dash they increased the onboard NAND from 16mb to 256mb and 512mb was it? Want to say there was a 128mb version in there as well. No hdd? Better hope you've got space on that memory card. Even now they offer 4gb internal with the slims and it likely isn't enough. Purely for game saves sure but any large DLC will use that space fast. Mom and Dad aren't really going to be pleased paying a huge sum for a HDD to slap in there. Different SKUs is one thing, different hardware inside is entirely another. You fragment that market and people are going to get confused over what games are compatible with what model. Then the fact remains that you now need multiple manufacturing lines to handle this. I can't imagine Microsoft would be this stupid.
It's more likely that m$ releases a successor to the 360 AND a separate set top box akin to apple tv with some sort of Xbox live/ game ability. There will probably be some shared functionality, especially on the tv/Netflix front considering how well it does on the 360. It would be a way to expand the market without having non gamers buy a dedicated game console.
