I guess you'd have to ask the 150 million people who bought a DS (or all the people playing on their iPhone/iPad/Android/whatever).
waitin 4 wiiu hello, i have been following very closely the events from e3 and I cant wait for the wii-u. Perhaps it will be only as powerful as xbox360 or ps3 but it will be enough for me : i still didnt switch to hd consoles : hate of m$ (being an old amigan may explain), nearly the same for sony (i cant forget their minidisc windows-only neither the betrayal of linux on playstation), for both i didnt feel any difference from a pc. I loved the wii and the innovation it brought through wiilmotes and what some developers are able to do with so limited resources When announced, a few months ago, i was skeptical about what an "ipad" could bring to gameplay, but nintendo conference gave the basis for very good opportunities. EA dev round-table finished to convince me. (http://uplay.fr.ubi.com/e3/videos) Lets hope they will make use of the waiting year to boost the specs enough to convince people who only believe in raw power and who love impersonal game ports which look same on every platforms about games physical support, i dont care how it will be named, as long as loading times are as clever as gamecube ones
So it'll be 50% more powerful than 360 and ps3? Somehow i don't remember it looking like that when i watched the e3 conference showing game video of it but maybe my stream was poor quality or the retail games will look much better than what we saw at E3 although shouldn't it be the other way round where trailers and such for a new system look somewhat better than what the console can actually do.
I just can't get over the name. "Wii" was dumb, but Wii-U... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0JElywbkSbY
i dont think you can take for reference the renders from e3 demos, i believe the console is not yet in finished state : they didnt even show the UC for real render engines from ubisoft had a lot of flaw and collision bugs which are not acceptable for a commercial game
Nintendo could have announced that the Wii U uses a processor from 10 years into the future, will have every game ever made for every console available, will make all games look better, bake you cookies, only cost 100.00 for the console and 20.00 for new games, and cure your acne. People will still bitch about it though. Anyway, developers seem to be really taken with it which is a good sign.
All I want to be able to do is play a game by moving a d-pad or nub and pushing some buttons. I don't want to waggle. I don't want to gesture. I don't want to have to pretend to swing a sword so that Link can swing a sword. And until N a least gives me the option of opting out of their retarded wiggling, I won't buy their consoles. It's the mainreason I don't own a Wii now. I owned one, and I just wanted a normal gaming experience. Remember... N said that the point of all this motion control BS was because controllers were too difficult to understand now and they wanted to simplify things. Who here doesnt understand a Playstation controller? At the end of the day, N is the worst kind of Japanese company. Unable to shoot straight with people and expecting you to buy something just because they told you to.
Yeah, I think that is the point of the new controller. I don't think Nintendo is gonna make it mandatory to "waggle" but it's nice to have options. I hate to see what you have to say about the Kinect or PS Move. ;-) See above. Citation please. I think you are paraphrasing. Nintendo's intent was to make gaming more accessible to people that find it more difficult to play games on a normal controller. They did so in spades with the Wii. My grandmother would never pick up a PS style controller to play a video game but loved the Wiimote because how intuitive it is for bowling in Wii Sports. I am not even sure I know what you are saying and not sure you do either. Worst kind of Japanese company? Can you elaborate? Unable to shoot straight? Really? How so? Expects me to buy something just because they told me so? I don't think marketing works that way. Thankfully no one will ever force you to buy one, least of all Nintendo. Personally I like having options and shudder at the thought of their being one dominant console.
Meh, the resistive screen really kills the deal, that controller ain't gonna last a minute under serious gaming. Now if they sell it for the same than the Wii I might consider it for the slightly-better-than-X360 graphics, as long as there are some cool games for it. At the end the PSV ranks higher in my buying list.
And how many games has your grandmother bought since the then? One of N's big problems with the Wii was that it has a huge installed user base of casual gamers that don't but games. They bought it because it was the cool thing to have. Hey, look at this innovative thing-a-ma-jig. And after a while it just sat there and sat there and sat there. And they still just sit and sit and sit. I distinctly remember saying that controlling video games had become too complicated and that the controls for the Wii would be simple. That's why there's one BIG ASS BUTTON. He the concept is that people could just pick up and play... no learning curve. But that's not what we got. I've been playing games nearly 35 years, and I couldn't figure out what the hell was going on in Mario Galaxy 2. What the heck? Why won't Yoshi eat anything? I tried all the buttons... I tried wiggling and waggling... last time I played a Mario game with Yoshi in it all I had to to to have him eat something was PUSH A BUTTON. Now I have to point my controller at the screen... target something... lock on... yeah, that's MUCH more simple. Everything's so much easier now that I have to gesture wildly in addition to pushing a button. Nintendo has great confidence in that they're Nintendo. They think they can make any kind of hardware and as long as they put out Mario and Pokemon they're good to go. They don't actually explain what gaming need their "innovations" meet, like motion "control" or 3D or keyboard sized controllers with a giant screen in the middle; they just tell us that we've been waiting for it and that we need it. They tell us we didn't know that we needed these things, but luckily they're here to open our eyes. And N isn't straight with the public. After the flops of their last two systems, they couldn't afford to build a machine with high-end graphics, so when they announced the Wii they said that "no one cared about graphics." Really? No one cares about graphics? So why does the 3DS do what it does and not look like the original Game Boy? Because people care about graphics. And the Wii-Ooooo can do all this, they said... only later to come back and say that those graphics weren't really from that machine. It was all from their competitor's machines. Oh, and the Wii-Ooooo can't play DVDs or Blu-Rays. Why? "Because people already own those players, so they don't want another one." How about "we didn't want to spend the money." ***************************************************************** Even you die hard Nintendo Fanboys have to admit that Nintendo has gone from market leader in quality games and graphics to the company to spends the least amount they can on producing hardware, and releases the same games over and over again so they can maximize their profits with very little investment.
The WiiU just moved from lame to hunk of junk in my books. Resistive screens are crapola. Quoted for truth.
Look, I didn't mean to upset you so much. Let's remember that the topic is all fun and games.;-) I even agree that Nintendo needed to be better to third parties and really needed their support. They dropped the ball on that and seem to have forgotten about their old "quality vs quantity" mantra from the N64 days. Remember that Nintendo is a business. They marketed the Wii well and it was "cool" to buy one. I also saw a huge uptake in friends, colleagues, family that bought consoles because playing video games wasn't just for the hardcore anymore. Also, don't forget that it was cool enough and profitable enough that Microsoft and Sony just now put out their own motion based controllers. Ok, so I think what you are attempting to say here is that Super Mario Galaxy 2 was too hard for you even though you have been gaming for 35 years. I assume you played it at a friends house because you don't own a Wii. I suppose Nintendo should apologize? Personally, I have only been gaming for 28 years but didn't find it that difficult. Neither did any of my relatives or my Mom. From a business perspective, you have to be confident. It was one of the first things I learned in school. If you do not convey confidence in your own product, who will? You need to take Nintendo for what they are. They do not have the the kind of money that Microsoft and Sony do. Whether you call it innovation or gimmick though, Nintendo pushes the industry in new directions. Not because they can but because they realize if games become stagnant, they will lose business. Again, if you don't like the hardware don't buy it. Ok seriously? Yes, I like Nintendo but I also like Sony ,Microsoft and playing games on my PC. What does that make me exactly? This isn't fanboyism and you need to step back and realize that Nintendo, just like Sony and Microsoft are in this to make money. Each of these companies know that it would be pointless to offer the exact same thing their competitor offers. I see a lot of Nintendo hate on varying forums and it kinda boggles me. Like any good company in their field, they try to offer new experiences while trying to expand their market and maintain an approachable price point. This is how a business should be ran. Point is, I like games and I am gaming fanboy . Nintendo has been in the industry for a long time and tries to innovate. More power to them. If it's good and it works, good for them. Sorry for the super long post.:Rock:I promise no more. HCK, I am sorry if I may have offended and I respect your right to an opinion even if I do not agree. May all your scores be high and your weekends double Xp.
Here's the problem: if one company starts to do something that drums up a lot of interest, either by sales or press, then the others in the industry are going to try to emulate it. I am actually afraid of how Microsoft and Sony are going to counter the new "etch-a-sketch" controller and how long it is going to infect gaming. Look at the motion controls on the Wii and the successor Move and Kinect on the PS3 and Xbox 360 respectively. Both of them have their uses, but they are far from necessary and seem to have lost steam pretty quickly. The Wii, as a piece of hardware, has sold well, but has a low attach rate from everything that I have seen (meaning people buy the system, but don't buy games for it). I take this trend as one of two things: people thinking it is cool to own one and not use it, or people buying it and realizing that motion controls are not a suitable replacement for a real controller and abandoning it. While motion controls have their place as an accessory control scheme, in my professional opinion, they are NOT suitable as a primary control scheme for a home console. Forgetting player fatigue, accessibility and coordination issues, many people don't even have the room to use these devices. I have a pretty big living room, but I would have to rearrange it before I could even try to hook up a Kinect system. To take an analogy too far: we have been using relatively the same control scheme to drive for over 100 years. Why? It works and people are comfortable with it. There's no need to reinvent the steering wheel...
I'm not offended, just passionate. And I'd like to see Nintendo return to their former glory. I actually think they got a lot right with the 3DS.
What a lot of hot air. At this stage I think we all know what'll happen with a new Nintendo console: there'll be a few incredible first-party titles, the odd decent third-party title from time to time, and a lot of dross. Saying that Nintendo "just want your money" or whatever is simple-minded. Of course Nintendo want your fucking money. They're a business. A business so successful that they've got Sony and Microsoft desperately playing catch-up. Waaaaaah, they're not targeting the core gamer demographic any more. Get over it. It's not like they cared about you any more back in 1991. They'll continue to go where the money is and I for one don't blame them.
Over time, I'm sure you will see more changes with steering. There are self-parking cars and cars that auto-slowdown when you're too close to another car. I think the low attach rate for the Wii console is due to the higher percentage of casual gamers who don't buy as many games as the hard-core types. On craigslist, I've seen many ads with people selling with Wii with just Wii Sports and maybe 1-2 other games.
