to be clear: I loved the Sonic/Shadow stages in SA2, and the Sonic/Tails levels in SA1. I dragged through with the rest of the crew just to get it done, but I've had worse.. All in all, it's good memories, that's all I m saying
I think DX restored the framerate to it's intended 60 FPS in certain areas. The DC was 30fps apart from Twinkle Circuit which was 60 FPS as I remember
Sonic Adventures Achievements; Miles "Tails" Power: Become friends with Tails. Knuckles the Echidna: Become friends with Knuckles. Amy Rose: Become friends with Amy. E-102 "y": Become friends with E-102. Big the Cat: Become friends with Big. Sonic the Hedgehog: Clear the Sonic story. Super Sonic: Clear all character stories. The Fastest & Stongest: Get Level A on all the Action Stages. Sub Game Master: Get all Emblems of the Sub Game. Chao's Best Friend: Get all Emblems of the Chao Race. The Adventurer: Get all Emblems in the Adventure Field. The Perfect Adventurer: Get all 130 Emblems. Sounds Easy?
The framerate in DX (Gamecube ver) was irratic and wasn't locked so it would go from 60 fps all the way down to what looked like sub 10 and keep yoyo-ing.
Hopefully they lock the frame rate, hell I would be satisfied with 30fps locked. 60 would be nice, but I hear the way the game was programmed it is very difficult to pull off.
I don't remember DX's framerate being much of an issue to be honest, but that is just a faded memory. At least I don't recall thinking it was a problem when playing it.
This is great. I loved SA. The first of the two last great sonic games. Of course I also Liked Sonic 2006 as well Which wasn't absolutely terrible
I think we're missing the point, which is how bad contemporary sonic games must be that we're looking foward to a reissue of a 12 years old game! And the DX edition nonetheless, a failed attempt to milk a dead cow: not only it kept all the bugs from the DC version, it even had more, like the poly count on the models would bounce between the DC and the DX versions all the time. Unless they make it HD (REAL HD, not upscalling) increase the poly count on all models (not just characters like DX) keep the framerate at 60 and solve at least the camera, I'm not buying it. Considering the amount of work that would require, its not gonna happen, and if for some reason it does I bet Segammy will release it on retail to make more money, since 90% of the market still buys that way.
To me, it seems like Sonic games are just retroactively good... or something. When Unleashed came out, a lot of people suddenly crawled out and said they loved 2006. And the same seemed to've happened with Sonic Adventure 1-2 + Heroes too. I knew a lot of people who hated Adventure. Then the second one came out and people suddenly loved Adventure 1... then they were big fans of 2 when Heroes crawled out. I recently replayed Sonic 1-3 + Knuckles (Dodged Sonic CD, 'cause I've always hated it and last time I gave it another go, I still hated it. The idea of the time travel is nice, but the limitations of the Mega CD made its transitations annoying) Anyway, I ended up thinking Sonic 1 was so-so. Absolutely hating Sonic 2. And liking Sonic 3 + Knuckles as much as always (Though, after hating my way through Sonic 2, I had to play as just Sonic in S3K, 'cause Tails was getting in the way too much in S2) Anyway, as sad as it is... I'll be hitting up Sonic Adventure XBLA when it comes, but only to show my filthy support for the Dreamcast port-o-tron.
Have to admit I never played more than the trial of Sonic 06, but it was just so obvious the game was horrible, and I've never seen many people say they liked it. I had Heroes, and it kinda sucked too: bad camera + stupid team system + only about two checkpoints per level. Unleashed...again, only played the trail, but wasn't impressed with the half-assed QTEs that seemed very tacked on.
DC ports are much easier, unfortunately. But you'd think they could run them via emulation on something this generation. HAHA! That was brilliant. Yes, yes... I remember the weirdness of watching Sonic jumping about and jigging around as though he was on speed and needed the bathroom, and thinking how annoying it must be to befriend such a hyperactive fellow. Wasn't Sonic Adventure written using some Direct-X? It could be this is emulated.
I don't know about the later PC and GameCube upgrades, but didn't the original Dreamcast version of Sonic Adventure still include code from the game's previous life as Sonic World on the Saturn? I know the levels running at 60fps (such as Twinkle Circuit and most "tube-like" areas, designed by Takashi Iizuka to have as much speed as possible while taking advantage of the 32-bit console's known technical limitations) were ported over then given minimal visual improvements, plus Sonic's model at one point switches to how he looked in Sonic R! With a little more development time, I'm sure a lot of these leftovers could have been remade instead of just receiving quick overhauls to meet their new host platform's higher graphical standard - AM2 managed this with Shenmue, though I do admit that was massively delayed with great financial cost as a result and didn't have the expection of being a very necessary high profile launch title next to far lesser games...
By the way, why are people bashing the looks of this thing? The game hasn't even reached the stage where it's been announced yet, so only Sega and God knows when this thing is scheduled for release and I bet it's certainly at least a quarter from now. Not that I really have much faith in Sega these days, but I would find it odd if the game comes out and still forces those fat borders on you and renders everything in a wonky 320x240 (or whatever) resolution that it scales up like that. Since other Dreamcast port-o-tron games runs full screen, smooth as hell and look absolutely gorgeous, I see no reason for Sonic Adventure XBLA to evt. [edit]not[/edit] get there too. (Though, that doesn't mean I still wont think of it as a meh-ish game.) Something... just something... tells me that the build on partner net that everyone's seeing pictures of now wasn't exactly meant for public eyes.
I think its just embarrassing to release it without a rehaul on XBLA. If it was cleaned up a lot I'd be interested in trying it- there IS a good game lurking under the awful presentation..
