Does the WIi version use stupid "Wii" controls like The Secret Rings or normal classic controller controls? It was the really dumb "Wii" controls that killed the last game for me. yakumo
Whats the loading times like on the 360/PS3. I remember sonic 2006 almost broke my brain with its: LOADING (one line message) LOADING (10 seconds gameplay) Loading....
whoa there. The wii version ALSO supports traditional controls via GC pad and Classic Controller, Mark
Bullshit. There has never been a truly excellent 3D Sonic game, and if you think there has, that says more about your nostalgia/lack of experience than anything else. There are a few people here who rate SA1/SA2... how long has it been since you went back to those games? They're a buggy, ugly mess. They aren't the worst games ever, but they're nothing more than mediocre. The cycle is right. Sega will continue to fuck up Sonic's name, the games will continue to sell well, and nothing will change.
Thank God for that. It was the controls that really made The Secret Rings game so poor. As far as graphics and actual ideas went it was pretty nice. So if I look at this new Sonic game as NOT being a Sonic title will I find a decent platformer in there? I hope so. Actually Sonic Adventure 2 would have been a great game if you didn't need to play those stupid knuckle levels and the God awful soundtrack. As it is I find it enjoyable as long as I try hard to ignore that music. Sonic Adventure 1 was good for it's time but now it's quite a mess in areas. Still, I find both games gave far more freedom than anything that followed. Yakumo
SA2 was an excellent acrobatics game (Sonic, Shadow missions) with a good flow and feel. Getting A ranks in those was a ton of fun
Yeah, it and SA1 aren't the best games ever but those levels gave a good sense of speed and stuff. I will never forget the truck chase part.
bash SA1 all you want by the way, but it had an epic feeling that is lacking from sonic titles after it. Some levels captured the aesthetics of what Sonic would be in 3D, like for example the whale-chase level.
Sonic Heroes almost had it right too. Sega has come so close so many times but they fuck it up some how either witha team dynamic or in this case warehog.
Style but no substance. Beneath all the flash is a poorly executed platformer. Obviously taste in games is an inherently subjective opinion, but the game mechanics in the 3D Sonic games just feel unpolished. Take away Sonic and put in any other nondescript mascot and you've got shovelware for kiddies, plain and simple. I played and completed SA1 back in the day, but despite my obsession for all things Sonic, it just wasn't a great experience. More to the point, it's aged horribly.
Yep. If it was Sonic in those games I don't think they would have worked. Then again, I think thats true for a lot of games. SA2 and the others are at least playable compared to the 360 one, I guess they aged a little better. I dunno. I want to play this new one, it looks pretty cool...aside from fucking werewolves or what the fuck ever.
Ok got the game today and i must say it's better then i expected. The daytime levels are simply stunning and make you feel like your playing and old propper sonic game. The hub area is frikking annoying with having to talk to people and stipud mini things. The werehog levels are well..they aren't bad but fuck it's slow gameplay 15-20 minutes on one fucking stage. Too bad the daytime to nighttime stages are like 1:4 so it's waaay too much werehog grinding. One positive note is that you can put the language options into japanese so you at least don't have to listnen to the braindead boring American voicecasting
I got it now as well. Its not as bad as I was expecting. Ok, its got bad voice acting, anoying "friends" and slow night time play. The best thing is that the game works. No getting caught in bugs to death.
