The only problem I have with the cube controller is the shoulder buttons. Playing Metroid Prime were you use them all the time makes my fingers hurt a lot. =(

I seriously almost pissed myself while reading that.

I think it has been said time and time again here, but things like the wiimote may seem like gimmicks right now, but when they are seemlessly integrated into the very fabric of gaming itself you will change your mind.

Shit, internet multiplayer on consoles was a gimmick at first too right..

    I'm a funny man!

The Gamecube controller is awesome, I miss the unique shape and stuff. It seems like the only thing that sucked on it was the Dpad for fighting games...but Gamecube didn't have tons of those anyway.

It really seems like the people calling the Wiimote a gimmick just haven't used one to play a real game like Metroid or something. I guess some games might be gimmicky with it to lure in Mr. Joe, but on stuff like Metroid it just plain rocks. I want No More Heroes!

I must admit - I really find Xbox Live a really good system - nice and neat without any nonsense.

I don't see the point of Home - it's just trying to appeal to Second Lifers, and seeing as that concept is less and less popular as time progresses. Whilst it's good that Sony is taking a different standpoint on onlineness, they don't seem to get that both occasional and hardcore gamers don't want faff to their online play - and noting that they are the most expensive console, they have to appeal to them.

Also, seeing as the cost of early consoles require each PS3 to have at least 10 games bought for them before they make a profit (that's $200 worth at $20 approx profit per game), they really don't want to divert people's attention from them or slow their progress.

Hardcore, we've discussed this. Video games are a gimmick, CONTROLLERS were a gimmick (WHY NOT USE A JOYSTICK LIKE NORMAL PEOPLE?), consoles were a gimmick, ONLINE was a gimmick, ANALOG THUMBSTICKS were a gimmick.

You're just an ignorant Nintendo Hating little bitch and it's REALLY fucking annoying. Go play metriod prime 3, or No more heroes.

The wii has been out for more than a year now. Approaching a year and a half. Wouldn't these nongamers be tired of their Wii's by now? But they're not - it's a lasting concept.

I bet if Hardcore here was around the DS launch he'd say "WHAT A GIMMICK! TOUCH SCREENS! BAH HUMBUG!"

You know what's the real gimmick here? Your trollish posts with no knowledge ("Shmups are best represented on the Xbox360!") or basis (The gamecube controller sucks!)

Let's see here, we got a thumbstick in upper left and lower right. analog triggers. a dpad in lower left. and a bottom face button, left face button, right face button and top face button.

Odd. I guess Hardcore hates the cube controller just because they made the a button bigger and moved it up a few millimeters

The DS thing is a good point. I got a lot of crap back in high school for rocking the fatty black imported DS vs. PSP. Eventually those PSP's became drawer filler and my DS played on. Now, everyone has DS Lite. Funny.

LOL funny how things change, i remember a lot of people (including on here) calling the ds a gimmick & how the touch screen was a crappy way to play games & how the psp would beat it out due to the fact it was more powerful & had teH grAfiXz.

The thing is games are what make a machine & there just more out for the ds than the psp, i have exactly 8 games for my psp & over 70 for my ds.

Oh & to keep the conversation on topic, err heah that home looks crap really.

The DS is a gimmick, but a successful one. The majority of games on the system do not make good use of the touch screens (if at all). There are some real gems on the DS, but let's not go around kidding ourselves here. Beyond a handful of really interesting and unique games the good ones are all Nintendo rehashes.

I like my DS, but I remain disappointed with it.

But why do the games need to make good use of all its features to justify the game been good, when i bought my ds i went on what games were out on it & based my decision on that, some games hardly use any of the ds's features at all but are still fantastic games.

Rehash argument dosent hold water anymore nearly every game out there on any console is a rehash of some other game, very few truely uniuqe games come out nowdays.

I play on my ds daily & am very satisfied with it, so one different side each to the debate :)

The point was, is the touch screen a gimmick. For most games, yes. Very few make use of them effectively.

This is true and I think the WIi should be held in the same regard. do we need to flail around wiisports style in EVERY game? No. Is Shaking the wiimote left and right to charge your lightsaber in No more heroes good? Yeah. Flicking them up and left when told to to perform finishers? Yeah. fun shit.

and the PSP's thumbstick is a gimmic.

It pains me after playing too long(since i have to cross my hands all diagonal)

it's sliding nature makes it hard to manoeuver and control, as u have to reposition ur finger on top of it all the time

UMD is a gimmick (for movies)

anyway, the DS is a good platform as a whole, since it contains fun games. whether or not they could be pulled off on another console is not important. It's like saying that the PSX was crap because Crash could be done better on the N64. Which is not the case, because the point remains that the PSX had some good titles!

PS: Henry, No More Heroes is one of my favourite titles ever. I realized this when me and some friends clocked a good 15 hours in front of the set, despite one of them moaning that the game was shit, and the other one saying that it's not bad, but nothing stellar. Bullshit, it's more addictive than crack :p

I love nintendo for their attention to small details, something the Dual Shock 6 will lack in the future, being the same as it i today.

For the gamer, I think that Home is not going to be a feature as interesting as Live, but anyways, I think the sole purpose of Home is to make the non-gamers in your home interested in your ps3. I'm pretty sure my girlfriend will love it.

if your girlfriend loves it i think you should

    a) buy her more real clothes instead of paying for virtual ones

    b) keep her entertained in ways only you a man knows best :p

don't let the PS3 take your woman away from you! :p

What people fail to understand/decide to ignore is that all of the features of Live are also available in Home via the traditional style of interface included in Home.

I question whether most of you have even played Home. Its more about a meeting place, to give you online tag a personality. Imagine clan meetings, all in a virtual world. Imagine being able to show a video that can be watched by everyone. Thats what Home is. Its not Second Life.

Go check out the HD videos on my site if you want a better idea of what it is, there are even different builds of Home to show you how its changed. Ill even do another video showing the latest build if its wanted

I've looked at videos. I just have zero interest in dressing up my avatar and making my home space all cribbed out, just to gather with friends and go play games. Why not just have a XMB lobby screen, where we can meet up with friends, chat with headsets, and jump together into online games without all the needless virtual world stuff. It would have been out months ago if they hadn't felt the need to shove all this stuff on top of a simple interface addition.

Not everyone will want to go into a virtual world, when XBL lets you do the same stuff without the hassle and effort.

I think I figured it out.

Sony doesn't want to steal XBOX live......they want to steal the idea of Miis.
    BINGO!
