Yeah because you can do any of that with a mii. Theres an apartment, videos, and all that stuff all on the Wii. Oh wait. And whos to say there wont be more features added to the PS3 without Home? Doesnt XBL still have the 2 person limit on private chat, or was that finally fixed (I know it wasnt 14 or so months after launch, so the PS3 isnt taking any longer if so) I think Sony knows that it isnt for everyone. But I agree with their choice to create Home, as the bigger audience is more important then you or I.
Your precious Xbox (BOTH OF THEM) have TERRIBLE Dpads. You hate nintendo for their policies? Aren't you a microsoft fanboy, microsoft being the company that has gotten into AntiTrust issues? Get your head out of your ass.
I think if I played Home I would end up making it goofy, like with all games. Just walk around into walls and stuff.
Oh, come off it! The X360's one is a pile of pants. At least with the Gamecube one I know which way it's going to say I pressed it and doesn't feel like I'm sticking my thumb in a jelly (or jello, to you folks in the US).
I don't play online with consoles so that I can have a virtual identity and "meet up" with my friends to "go play videogames online". I don't see any benefit at ALL from "watching movies online". I mean holy shit, am I really the only person that thinks that would be the most awkward thing ever? Just sit there watching a movie with a headset on, hearing someone breathing constantly, or talking during the movie... Jesus, go out and get some real friends and hit up a theater. All in all, the concept is stupid, and, to go along with the discussion at hand, is nothing more than some gimmick so Sony can set themselves apart from Microsoft's oh so efficient and well done Xbox Live.
My 360 Dpads are just fine. and I don't care what anyone says the XXL (DUKE, Bear claw) XBOX controllers are the best for fighters. while we're bitching about D-pads Playstation.......all of them,.
Then dont use it. Its free. No loss for you. You arent paying a cent for it. Sony may be playing catchup to the pay service XBL, but its getting damn close, and Home is just an additional freebie for the people who would be interested.
Getting close to Xbox Live? OK, see, like you said, Home is free right? See, even for free, I do not view it as worth the time it would take to deal with it. But on the other hand, paying $50 a year for an efficient and well run service like Xbox Live is more than worth it to me. Truly, you get what you pay for.
I have 0 issues with the PSN in my usage of it. The lacking point is obviously no in-game invites or checking messages from your PSN name, which is still important to most, but its getting ever closer to being a substantial service.
I don't really see that yet. I gave up the 360 because it's a piece of shit console, but I had Live on the xbox, then again on the 360. It is hell of a lot better than what the ps3 has, or probably ever will. Right now, the ps3 friends list is almost pointless, as all you see is their name and if they're online or not. At least the PSN store actually uses real dollar amounts for games, instead of MS's stupid currency you need a conversion chart for. The 360 was built around the idea of a quality online experience, while the ps3 is tacking it on well after launch. MS has a variety of methods to get people to play online, be it achievements, regular DLC, contests, or just for fun. The ps3 has nothing like that yet. Xbox Live is far more interactive and builds a better community, all without the virtual world gimmick. While I understand I can ignore it if I choose, but maybe I'm just selfish. It's frustrating to see a perfect example of how to run an online service on the 360, and to have Sony go the other way and take forever working on their virtual world lobby system that will appeal to only a certain kind of gamer.
I gotta say, I think it's way more fun to do LAN style things vs. online play with a headset. Usually I get 2 or 3 people, we set up in a room and play against people on Live. Stuff is more fun with actual people there, not to mention funnier.
Best for fighters? BULL SHIT. Any controller that doesn't have the 6 buttons on the face in rows ALA Saturn is GARBAGE. Your Dpad is fine? http://www.assemblergames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=17256
if i can put my character in a pool and delete the ladder in Home, then i might think of checking it out. i'd also like to make my character... nevermind...
Second Life is furry/pedo paradise, and I doubt Home will be anywhere near like that... Remember the lobby in PSO? Home is going to be like that, but bigger and more commercial. And well, sony like any other corporation is a gold digger, and with facebook being valued at $15 billion I can see why they want to get into the social networking thing too. The wiimote, is great and I can think of a lot of games both present and future that could make good use of it. The problem is that for every good game you have like 20 or more crap ones that make a bad use of the controller, which turns it into a gimmick. And with everybody playing mostly wiisports you can be sure that like any gimmick it will turn into a fad, and when the fad is over nobody cares about it anymore. The DS, thats a combination of factors, like nintendo giving full 1st partie support to it, and PSP having very few titles worth playing. That, combined with the lack of a flagship title (DS had nintendogs among others) and portability issues (battery life and such) killed any momentum PSP had.
If you guys want to see what Home has become, check out my site, as Ive just updated it with info on the latest build. Youll see its almost nothing like Second Life.
I wasn't going to say anything about home until now, but I think home is alright. I wish they would just have a basic Live system, but I can see it working. I would bite the bullet and use it, I got REALLY into Animal Crossing...
