they all lie. If they didn't video games would be boring. Sony lied hard core with ps2, Nintendo with the N64 and MS with xbox. I know for a fact one game did load to the HD with the xbox. Fusion frenzy. WHen i was a manager of a gamestop we had the demo unit up and kids would play that son of a bitch all the fucking time. So one day i took the game out of the unit. Not ten mins later a kid was playing fusion frenzy. I asked him how he did it and he said he went to the memory and found that game and from that point on it was always a playable game. I know alot of people are going to flame me and say it could be true but i saw it and played it with myt own eyes.
I was just looking through some 360 pre launch crap. How about that NUON-based visualization they were bragging about? Eh, xbox media center has better... And i have an interview with J allard talking about how users will be able to design content for live and be able to sell it at launch... not so much...
Relatively minor points compared to the flat out lies that $ony is guilty of. BTW, the light visualizer found in NUON (VLM) and the Xbox360 (Neon) are completely different though programmed by the same guy, Jeff Minter. Apparently he's developing a version for PC's and it boasts some sort of user controllable functions and beat detection that other visualizers can't match. As for the ability to design and sell stuff on Live, well, that's a feature that may be implemented at some point. Consider it slightly delayed.
Emotion Engine. That's all I need to say. Never have I heared such piles of shite spouted by a PR company. However, it's also some of the most effective PR after all: the magical mystical fairy-dust powered Emotion Engine hype that helped to kill DC sales.
Lies or hype is one thing. Shoddy product and bad customer service is another. I needed a driver for my Moms Sony Palm. It was almost two years old at this point. They refused to provide me one unless I could show an original reciept. NO DRIVERS FOR A PRODUCT WITHOUT PROOF?!?! Piss off. I've never heard such a thing. I ended up finding the original CD, but if and when thats gone the Palm is a paperweight. How many ps2s have people on this board been through? Dont get me wrong, I've had to repair dozens of Thompsons in Xbox's. To keep on topic, I still want a VR system for(insert console here). Damn you Lawnmower man movie, damn you all to hell!! Anyone recall the PS8 commercials?
Why hope something fails? Hope that Sony pull things together ang give you the best games you've ever played.
Welcome to the wonderful world of PS2 Linux. Before that PS2 had Yaroze. Now show me anything at all from Sony competitors (Atari, Nintendo, SEGA, and now Microsoft). The closest thing is some third party Basic for Saturn, which was pretty lame.
Oh trust me, I know about those lol. But it was to be built in or for a really cheap extra, not something offered for 200 bucks through the Sony website.
POS2 I repaired my first one twice before it died and the second one once within six months of buying it new What I would like to know is what ever happened to the PS2 replacing the PC? The damn Dreamcast had a more comprehensive plan with a browser and everything and Sony has?....
.. for a limited time because of limited quantities. And the programs shipped in where mind blowing either, you're pretty much on your own.
Cuz if you see history, companies tend to do a batter work when they try to recover their lost market share. Just look at SEGA and the Dreamcast (too bad it didnt work either....)
i was so dissapointed it died. i remember back then they would often do comparisions on which was more powerful dc or ps2, but what was funny was even though ps2 was considered to be the ultimate machine, there were game that turned out worse being released on ps2 compared to dc. I heard shenmue would be impossible to perfectly port on it and didnt treasure say that they couldn't port ikaruga to it due to some issues with sprites or ram?
Well, Sega could have DONE alot more. They have great ideas but for whatever reason they seem to throw things together and forget about it. DC starting strong with alot of marketing, and it flew. When word hit about ps2 Sega didnt really do much, I saw less and less tv ads, and they didnt hype key games they should have to being with. People can blame Sony all they want for there ''lies'' that brought DC to it's kness. Although it was a factor dont get me wrong at all, but it is like I said Sega never tryed to fight back, give boost to games they went on as sleeper hits (virtual striker). Sega didn't really prove themselfs as the console to have for those who had that bitter taste left in there mouth from the Saturn. But never the less Sega will, and shall always have a cult following, except they needed abit more then that to keep there feet on the ground. Word of mouth is the best advertisement for any company. Sony had that, and it took them to the top. To wish Sony to fail, I hope they don't, they brought alot of new things to the scene, alot that people don't Sony credit at all for. PS2 Linux kit had a short life span, but it was pretty much for people who had an idea of what they were doing to begin with. Why make something that you might end up with overstock of that wount move? Sony holds a contest in Japan, you made a game? Show Sony, might end up with a job. I think thats pretty cool, and I would like to attend one year. anyway I spent to much time on this already
I dont see ALOT of things they could do, you had to see the casuals at the time: trying to convince them of at least trying the DC was near impossible. About marketing, well is half true. Mouth-to-mouth only works when you got a great mass of fanboys doin it for you, like with the Halo series. Obviously PSO didnt catch up to that point but I'm sure that if SEGA released Counter Strike we would see at the time the exact same phenomenom we see today with Halo. Anyways, maybe it was the fact that they forgot about sonic completely. I mean, they had the possibility to make a huge launch for the original Sonic Adventure, maybe even a movie to help promoting the game, but they just did 1 or 2 ads and that's it...
DC was/is badass. I finally got one (again) tonight (1999 model, works perfectly *coughsonycough*). I remember one of my buddies got one at launch and I couldnt for the life of me understand why it was any better than psone. Hind site is 20/20. DC should have destroyed ps2. I've never been much of a ps2 fan but its developed an incredible library of games due to its installed user base (Guitar Hero would have been so much better on Xbox due to live and downloadable content, but not economicaly feasible. As it was GH was a HUGE risk for Harmonix on ps2). It was the DVD player that turned the tides, and Sony keeps using that ace in the hole to this day to get a box in every household (PSP with UMD's and PS3 with blue ray). They all lie, its just about how many boxes and how much software ends up in users homes at the end of the day. If the consumers decide they want hotwing pudding after every game, guess what im going to tell the press. Who cares if it ever happens, I've managed to put 50 million boxes in homes that software houses will develop for. I should major in videogameonimics. Preach!! Homebrew is why Xbox has attained the status it has. Like what IS better, not what your TOLD is better.
The DC was full of shit low quality games. Now look at Nintendo. Loosing a lot of market share in the home - they are hardly pumping out brilliant games, are they?
