I always use the texture smoothing (or did with my old PS2), but I never used the drive speed enhancement (when I did, I didn't notice much difference).

Does anyone know all the different TEST models and the differences between them.
E.g. I have a DTL-H10000S. It does what most TEST do but won't boot original import games(only plays original JAP games) and it lacks the cool TEST logo(just looks like a standard PS2).
I'm interested in knowing what/if those TEST HDD units do differently.

Sounds like you have a psone debugger, they made some ps2 for debug psone that wont do dvd.

No it plays PS2 games fine. They just have to be Original JAP games or Master Disc patched "backups". Just won't play original imports like the newer TESTs do.
Wasn't really asking for help with my unit just curious about the different revisions of the TEST.
Did Anonymous ever tell you if the HDD TESTs did anything cool?

    Debuggers

Chief> The main two units you need to worry about are PS2 Debugs (what you have) and PS2 TEST units.

A PS2 Debug is built on the original Japanese hardware and will play any PSone game, any master disc on CD or DVD-R (from any region) but only Japanese retail discs.

A PS2 TEST is build on the original US hardware and will play any PSone game, any master disc and any retail disc.

Oh and DJ, Killzone demo runs fine on a NTSC TEST.

    Re: Debuggers

yea I burrowed PAL KillZone demo and it ran fine including intro fmv but 2nd retail PAL copy also showed that choppy intro fmv??? :-(

I'm not sure what's going on whether it's my PAL PS2 Test or the copy of PAL KillZone I tested - btw it works fine on mate's retail unmodified PAL PS2... :-( :-(

    Debugs

There are actually newer revisions of the TEST models (lacking the firewire port) but the feature set is basically the same (aside from the very obvious lack of firewire). These are based off the newest build of the retail PS2 (the one with the quieter fan and the progressive scan DVD support).

I have yet to see a PStwo TEST unit.

since TEST wouldn't do DVD movie what's the point for prog-scan... :-( I'm sure based on newer model it'd be more reliable though? :smt043

    DVD on Debug

Are you positive that you managed to get the DVD drivers installed on a TEST unit or was it a debug?

All of the TEST units that I've seen will flat out refuse to boot the DVD driver disc thereby preventing you from installing the drivers to the memory card. I have heard that you can install the drivers on a Japanese debug, but have never tested it personally.

thats because all TESTS, that I have seen dont contain the EROM part of the bios which would allow you to run any encrypted files. including dvd player. I would say that a test that runs dvd player etc may actuially be a debug or a MODDED PS2.

Hey, any of you guys with a test want to dump the bios?

    http://ps2dev.org/kb.x?T=562 heres the source.
there should be a binary on ps2ownz.com's utilities. All you've got to do is run it pukklink or ps2link with a network adapter in, and send the compiled elf through inlink. it'll send the bios file over to host:.

Or you could download the BiosDumper from http://www.pcsx2.net which is made by myself which dumps ROM0, ROM1, ROM2 , EROM and NVM. I also have an unreleased version that will dump to Memcard , so on a non modded machine you can exploit it and load it from mem card and dump it without any connection to a HOST Pc.

I have a DTL-H30101 (NTSC U/C) TEST PS2 unit which is the mutts nuts! I used to have a DTL-H30001 (NTSC U/C) but that one did not play utility discs made by Sony (including the NTSC HDD v1.1 disc) so I changed it for the latest TEST ps2 version which is the DTL-H301xx series. It was only 6 months old when I got it from games company 2 months ago. It plays ALL discs including japanese BB navigator discs, and even DVD utility disc (that came with retail SCPH-10000) units so I also have a NTSC multi-region DVD player out of it.

Like Assembler mentioned earlier. You need the DVD drivers installed on the memory card in memory card slot 1 to play DVD's on the TEST PS2 consoles. Although from my experience the DTL-H3000x series do not play utility discs, even from their own region. Some work but most don't.

Has anyone else found this or is it just me......

Is anything funky needed to play PS2 imports on here (japanese, mainly)? I just have the plain console. If there is, I guess I need to start hunting for a PS2 and a fliptop case.
