yeah having a jack included with the kit would be great. How much is the kit going to cost?

who knows why the nes was ac anyways. the original famicom was DC to begin with. they could have just left it dc when they designed the nes and used the same power supply.

That's because the PAL SNES has a 12V pump circuit used for SCART autoswitching.

a 12v DC power supply could have provided the switching easier than AC...

The PAL SNES uses the same body as the Super Famicom, which has the same barrel connector as NES. The NES uses AC power supply, so I suppose they went ahead and designed the PAL SNES to work with AC power as well in order to avoid disasters from switching adapters. The NTSC SNES has a totally redesigned body with a physically incompatible barrel connector, so they didn't have to worry about making it operate safely with a NES power supply. I doubt the 12v pump circuit has anything to do with the choice of AC poer supply. If that were the case, the PAL SNES wouldn't work properly with a DC power supply.

Famicom + Super Famicom = Both DC, same barrel connector, no chance of killing either console.
PAL NES + PAL SNES = Both AC, same barrel connector, no chance of killing either console.
NTSC NES + NTSC SNES = One AC, one DC, different barrel connectors, no chance of killing either console.

Good news for anyone following this project. All parts are in and I will have kits for sale either Thursday or Friday and the kits each include the socket, the bare PCB with headers for NESRGB a 3mm screw to hold the PCB in place and a DC Power jack.

The price for each kit will be $40 and shipping is as follows: $4 USA,$6 Canada and $8 International.

There will be 10% off each kit if 3 or more are bought at a time, I have 20 kits for sale and will be first come first serve basis unless other arrangements are made with myself through PM. I will be accepting Paypal only and no trades please.

Awesome news; I hope I can get an order in before they all sell out, like how the first batch of the NESRGB sold out in less than 24 hours!

I will announce it here in this thread before I put them up for sale.

EDIT: Do people want the kit assembled like soldered pinheader on pcb or do you guys prefer it loose?

Offer them in both forms. Then people can decide what they want.

We currently only have the SNES Socket connector fabricated and until there is enough interest and demand for the other variations they won't be for sale.

    How much are bare PCB?

EDIT: I am thinking off using the PCB for cable tester or a adapter board.
