I never used that Sigma lens as I prefer to stick with Canon lenses. It might be a bit above your budget but if you're looking for a decent tele I can highly recommend an EF 70-200mm f/4 L USM. I used a one of a friend of mine and it was absolutely fantastic. It feels incredibly solid and well build (as it's a lens of the professional series). The only con is that it's relatively heavy, but I can live with that. I'm saving up for that lens now. :)

Ain't the EF 70-200 a bit too big for just wandering around with it? It seems to be quite a huge one, even has the built-in tripod connector.

The Sigma is 14cm in depth and rather heavy, but still very handy for what it does.

It depends a bit on what you'd want to do with it. I'd imagine it's not to comfortable walking around with a fairly large and heavy tele mounted on your camera, but usually when I go out to shoot some pictures I take my camerabag with me anyways. If you're the kind of person who goes out with just a camera and one lens the EF 70-200 might not be ideal.

It does not have a built-in tripod connector by the way. There is an add-on to connect it to a tripod, but it's certainly not built in.

I use a Sigma APO DG 70-300 Macro lens and it's brilliant, other than the terrible manual focus on it. As long as you get an APO or DG Sigma lens you should be fine. Much better value than branded glass, even though it might not be quite as good.

If I couldn't afford the Pentax version, I would have no problem at all with using a Sigma lens.

I sure do like me some Sigma. I've borrowed them from my previous-previous job many times.
Right before I went all "unemployed" and such, I was about to get myself a sigma 12-24 and the cheap-but-a-bit-soft (wide open and zoomed more than half) 28-70 2.8.
Bahhh, and 20/30/40D bodies are getting so cheap (respectively) now!

I think it takes okay shots for 1.3mp.

I love how you still have colors, while everything here is dead haha

well until a few days ago we still had 14°C, so some trees were about to bloom O_O

Awesome dog Borman. I used to have a Chocolate Lab. Really fun dogs.

I took this one a few nights ago. This is a 37 minutes exposure of the night sky, with a fisheye lens. :)
