Did you do the layout and graphic design for those magazines? If so, I think we've found our design guy right here. Very professional work. Obviously it'd be a different style for an Assembler mag... think you could maybe pull together some mock-ups, LMS?
Alchy, yeah my business partner and I look after the design for multilink. I'd be happy to do you guys some mock ups if you can get me some parts to work with. If anyone wants to pm me with links to contents for a proposed article (just images and some title subjects) then I'll do something with some dummy text. pretty hectic busy atm though so be prepared to wait a few days ;-) I wouldn't have time to do the whole issue eachtime I'm afraid but I could certainly do a few articles and maybe some editorial stuff like the contents page, etc..
I thought maybe the cover for the first issue should be about the Assembler community as a whole instead of a specific article or subject. I don't know if this would be ok though, I could really use some help with the direction thing too.
short question on the law site, was the issue where apple sued a online news site above some internal information to get the idendity of the leak solved ? i mean we can get here into the same position where companys try to get onto the individuals especially when the mag is sold for money @.50cal: nice layout but i would have some suggestions if you dont mind the pictures should all be on the same site in a text so they dont destroy the reading flow (either left or right i mean) and the background image makes it also kinda hard to read what i like is the topic line with the info which console and type of the software / hardware maybe a little more structure would help like playstation 2 / final beta/ developer/ title but i think iam going a little to far since nothing is in the dry right now anyone got hold of assembler on the topic maybe via irc ?
@ Dot50Cal: So Far so goo, tought i have to say that i like more the inside pages than the cover... can you try to make something similar but using red/black/white theme and putting on the background something suitable to a magazine that would talk about obscure devkits and game machines? maybe some kind of collage from different devkits... all in grayscale like in you current background i mean i'll be happy to see some mockups too... by the way i can't se your web page at all... Before this we should have some words from kevin; so far we could even end not being affiliated to assembler in any way, tought i hope this project to became his official one...
Ok i saw your webpage and i'm sure you'll prove invaluable i'll make you work hard! by the way, can you make me a quick and dirty background pic showing something like a motherboard with chips on and such? i mean don't waste more than 1 hour on it and try to use as few colors as you can maybe even greyscale my compliments for your arts by the way, i'm sure we can merge it with others and came out with something IMPRESSIVE
Okay I tried coming up with something circut boardy but I don't know what I was thinking. I'm just saying this so you know I tried something but I shouldn't have tried at 2:00pm, now at 3:00pm I was annoyed that I wasted an hour so.. Completly unrelated here's a picture I drew in 15 minutes in rebutle to absolute failure. It's really bad and...bad, the only reason I'm posting it is to imply that I am doing something, I'm still not happy with any of my results yet. And you were interested in a Red White Black colour scheme Karsten?
not bad the pic, making it a little more polished and showing a letter on the hand of the man can be nice for the mail section by the way sketchy works great for BGs and can be useful if in the end we'll end up in B/W issues (let's hope not...) red/black/white would be nice if we'll be affiliated to the webpage but i thik you can do whatver you think it's fit, it's easier to suggest from a base on thanks for your effort
Karsten same here. I didnt devote as much time to the cover as the inside page. Ill see if I can work on it doay or tommorow. Im a bit busy this week but Ill post any updates.
many thanks, really. So guys i just took a decision (i guess that being the editor that is what people expect from me) and that means big news. Mairsil has been working so far on a forum hosted somewhere else, and i think that we've been wasting quite a lot of time so far, and we have lots of work to do, so my idea is to move all the threads concerning the magazine there, so that we can start writing and organizing seriously. So far i had no answer from kevin so we doesn't know if we'll be the official assembler's magazine but work must start anyway... i mean we doesn't even have a name so far! For summing things up: we'll use this topic here for giving news to all the people interested in our work and to get suggestions, but we'll plan and do our work on our new forum. things will be like this for now, and could change in the future, but if we doesn't start there won't be any future So, mairsil, when everything's ready post the linkl so that people can start registering and we can get to WORK! Karsten PS (not being english born speaker i hope i didn't made bad word choices that could make this post misinterpreted; not bitterness or polemic are involved)
Well, here it is: http://forums.pouncingkitten.com/index.php We were concerned that the momentum for the magazine was starting to die down. I think that everyone can agree that the idea has gotten WAY to big to keep confined in one thread. Right now, the magazine forum is broken up into four sections: - General Discussion: Public, includes everything related to the magazine that is not part of the other subforums. - Articles and Reviews: Public, everything related to article ideas, submissions and guidelines should go here. - Layout and Style: Public, cover art, style direction, font color; the artistic side of the magazine. - Staff Only: Private, discussion of staffing and administration type items. Anyone can contribute and karsten will have full control over the magazine staff and editors.
No offense guys but this is turning out to have little to do with Assembler Games at all. We havent even heard from Kev yet and you already setup a forum that off site. If its gonna keep the Assembler Games name you might wanna keep it here.
I think the issue is Dot50Cal is simply the concern of momentum dying down and the concern that Assembler hasn't indicated either way yet. Look at it as a temporary thing atm until offical word is announced.
I just registered over at the other forum, so from now on I'll be posting there as far as the mag goes. So we haven't heard from Kevin, well that's too bad. Maybe he's just waiting to see how able we are in getting the project off the ground before commiting to anything. I would like the magazine to be affiliated with Assemblergames.com, but if that doesn't happen I wouldn't worry about it, we just have to think of a cool name. That is an awsome idea. How about a 1 page comic, in the back of the mag like in EGM? I was going to suggest this before but was a little hesitant (as I think any other articles would take precedent over a comic; things like comics are usually something you put in magazines as part of the side content, like salad dressing.)
I had an answer form kevin, he's sick right now and can't take care of anything, so i think we can at least start working on our own forum and then if it'll be the case shift back here. by the way let's all unite in wishing our friend kevin the get better soon, karsten ps as soon as i'll be back from work i'll start posting in the new forum and give directions, so stay tuned!
K, then I'll be making some early articles about old consoles and prototypes. I also got a DIY text about how you can eat noodles and play VirtualOn at the same time. Is dangerous, you cang et your head cut-off if you dont do it right! Whoa, is just a cold or something bad? as George Costanza would say: "is it lupus??!!"
