I think that you should keep the money, after all we're already trusting you for the prints money so that we doesn't need to make 1000 money transfers for paying printers.

I like the idea concerning the graphic design :) so guys let's start the concept come!

For what concerns articles and deadline i agree with your analysys october is nice for people that will be out on august (like me:D ) and give us plenty of time to choose a well definite graphical aspect to be kept for long.

concerning articles my idea is to attribute them up to filling all the pages + 1/4th of the next issue, so that if there's some problem with an article, we doesn't findo ourself uncovered, and it would help for next issues planning.

I would avoid using watermarked pics. the pics should be watermarked ONLY in a might be PDf version, but on the magazine it's a must to have clean and beautiful pics.

By the way, hawanja, for having the magazine in full color what would be a right price to come out?

    obviously i'll chip in 100 EUROS in (it's a bit more than 100$ :D )

well mairsil, i think that you should get something ready ;)

I still haven't had an answer from kevin concerning a forum help nor the use of the assembler name... for what concerns the name i think we' ll wait, but i guess having our own forum will make thing easier to keep on track, expecially because i think that soon we'll have to start choosing articles and such things that could make a mess in our friend kevin, places :p (thinnking of a topic for the articles, one for the various graphics, one for external contribution one for whatever it is.... we would abuse his kindness i think)

I'd be willing to contribute articles, but I'm new to the "obscure" scene. There's some interesting stuff coming out of ludology though (the study of gaming) which could be fun to report on, not to mention a change of pace from the news/reviews concept which seems to have been taken over by the online market.

It will only take about two minutes to setup, but I want to make sure that ASSEMbler doesn't want to have the magazine forum setup here instead. I agree that the discussion has grown past the boundries of a single topic and would be better served by a dedicated forum area though.

No prob with me, I'm just saying cuz some people here may be pissed if their collections pics end up in ebay.

Anyway, if you guys want an article about ANYTHING concerning old systems, just PM me:nod:

Scans from magazines are blurry enough to avoid such problems i guess and obviously we'll need articles about old systems :)

That is my wish too :) this is the only reason everything is on an alt now

By the way i'l try to edit my first post to make things easier for people that are following the thread since little time

A piece of advice: 1) Get a designer, it's better if he is from inside the comunity, If he fails, you are toast. 2) A forum, not a subforum inside Assembler, but a new one. 3) Put a date and stick to it. 4) Someone has to correct whatever piece of text you are going to work with. 5) It's better if you can arrange meetings outside the web.

Curious to know, would it be possible to cover beta games? Id like to contibute some things if thats the case. Perhaps a short article with some screenshots? Of course Id prefer this to be anoymous..I dont want Company X knocking on my door.

Can we get some source material for the cover design? I mean, if this is gonna be a mini-competition to get the best layout the content should all be the same. IE "FEATURED ARTICLE" pics, Cover design concept etc. I have a little mock up so far, but I have no idea what to make the cover. Having everyone do the same content should help out in the decision process. Afterall, its the layout that counts.

Right now I have a rather humorus cover story "Just who is Assembler?". So I need something to cover that up lol.

    SUPER EDIT:

I was messing around a bit and I got this made up, Its mostly all temporary especially the stories (sorry Shiggsy, you were the first topic I landed on!). Matrix background is SUPER cheezy but I couldnt really find anything else and besides its a mock up just for the layout XD. I have the original with layers in 2x the size of this one. This one is 8x11, but I have 16x22 if its needed. I'm curious if anyone else has a mock up done?

    Any suggestions?

    Best cover yet!

BTW, who would have thought that we'd still have no word from Assembler four days into this thing?

Well he seemed supportive in the original thread. Hopefully he will get behind it. I would think that if there was no way that he would let this happen, he would have said so in the first thread.

Hello everyone. I'm usually just a lurker around here but this thread finally gives me a good reason to speak up.

I publish a quarterly pdf mag called multilink (www.multilinkmagazine.com).

If you like the presentation then I'd be happy to contribute some design/artwork to the project you're discussing here.

Wait is it a cover desgining compatition or general pages?

And I agree with Dot Cal that some direction would be nice, otherwise it's just complete filler and might not be relivant.

I think its just a mock up design time. That would probably mean Cover + Page Layouts. Im working on a page layout now. Ill post it up when I feel its up to standard.

    EDIT:

Alright so heres a little mock up I just did. Its not complete but for the most part the layout is there. Placments inside the articles are obviously temporary, We can probably do cool little artistic stuff where the text wraps around images and all that jazz. Let me know what you guys think.

Gotta usea thumbnail with this one, its way too large and will kill the forum. Just make sure you copy it out to your favorite image app, as imageshacks scaling thing doesnt work properly on all browsers. Once again its resized by 50%. Actual image is 2304x1584 (16x22)

Gotta run to work now which is why I was rushing to get this out.

Edit 2: One thing I noticed with this Dream Weaver Press..

    Kinda sucks...

Yeah, let's be honest with ourselves here, if it's not in full colour we're only really providing a semi-invaluable source of obscure and prototypes.

What's the point of detailed close ups of units and rare games and betas if they aren't how they truely would appear. Either way I'll do what I can to help but colour would be like twice as good.

I'm working on a cover now, it'll probably suck, crash and burn but I'll have something to show for it.

Dot50Cal, those are awsome! I'm not even going to bother now becasue that's way better than anything I could do. Seriously bro, nice work! I'm not just yankin' your chain, I really like those!

Yeah the Dreamweaver place only does black and white, but here's a place that does small print runs in 4-color. This was a few pages back in the thread so I could see where you may have missed it (this is where we got the $700 figure from.) Once again, if anyone finds a better price let me know.

    Thanks Hawanja :)

Im hoping we can find a place which does full color, I know Id be willing to donate extra for a full color mag and Im sure a lot of members here would too if we get this out to the rest of the community. Personally I didnt pay any attention to the topic for a while until Paulo mentioned something to me about it. When this is more finalized I'd hope it would get backing from Kevin. Perhaps a post in the news forum as well once things get close to release :)

Ill start looking around for a company but I'd need to know how many magazines we would be printing and is the 36 pages set in stone?

    Edit: Maybe this one? http://www.copycraft.com/magazines.html

Edit 2: Get quotes from a lot of printers http://www.printlocal.com/
