It's been a while since I started the jogging now and I'm happy to say that I lost 10kg in 2 months. The problem is that I have probably put it back on after my trip to the UK. So I was looking in to a faster way to loose fat / weight and came across Interval Training. This sounds very interesting and would suit me very well. Basically for those who don't know it consists of say brisk walking for 5 minutes with a 30 to 60 second fast sprint (basically as fast as you can go) then back to a brisk walk. I can do this. It's recommended to do it about 10 times a session and at least once a day. Does anyone have any opinions on this type of work out? Yakumo
I don't have any direct experience, other than to say I do the same on my bike when I ride for what one might consider "training". I sprint down a block (as fast as possible) then keep up a respectable speed while calming down. I'd say it has helped my cardio a lot.
Atrophy is a bitch =/ I started cycling again last week through my Stargate SG-1 box set. For the first 7 days I was doing an episode a day. Last night, on my 8thy day, I stepped it up a notch and doubled it to 2 episodes or 85 minutes. Hopefully my legs will be fine with carrying it on today. My goal is to work up to about 3 hours of cycling a day, which hopefully I can move on to next week. When I was cycling heavily in 2007 I got down to 84Kg losing about 1Kg per week. I burned myself out fter several weeks, but this time I've been gobbing a protein shake with every meal and after the cycling to do the repairs which is something I had previously neglected. I'm not gonna bother gobbing creatine or l-glutamne etc yet though until I start powerlifting again which will probably be in January - but only IF I can maintain my cardio until the end of the year. Wish me luck! EDT: BTW Yakumo buidling muscle is a good way for you to burn fat fast as you basically need more energy to get through the day to maintain your new mass so it gobbles the fat when given a chance. I'm not saying bulk up, but if you tone up as well as do your cardio you will feel noticeably better, though due to the muscle the weigh in may annoy you but t wouldn't matter as much then.
I haven't been exercising much, but I have lost a lot of weight recently due to a new diet I started. I do ride my bike to class, but it's a short ride and not very hilly. It'd probably be a good idea to start running again, but I'm a lazy, lazy man.
Along with the jogging you should do some push ups and sit ups in your living room or something. Once a day I just put on some music and just do like 10-15 minutes of different types of push ups and sit ups. Nothing major. Jogging/running doesn't work your upper body much so push ups might be good for you.
I've started on the upper body workout as well with pressups but I don't want to over do them just yet. A few years back I could do 100 sit-ups in sets of 20 but these days I can just about do 20. Yakumo
I started with my gym membership yesterday. I am SO out of shape... I get tired for doing practically nothing.... I am so ashamed of myself... I used to be able to stretch almost like a ballerina... And now I can't even touch my toes. Is it just that I'm getting old, or is it also the lack of excercise..... I feel embarrassed for going to the gym and using the treadmill because I get tired so easily..... DAMN!
Getting pretty bad chafing now with all of the sweat etc and it isn't wise to apply hydrocortisone all of the time (as it thins out skin) so I'm on tempoary hiatus. I didn't cycle last night and I won't cycle tonight either. I ordered some compression shorts yesterday and my exercise will resume when they arrive - I was hoping they would come today but I guess they will probably come tomorrow now.
This doesn't work much past the noob phase. Eventually (sometimes quickly) you will get to a point where you have to have a caloric surplus to build muscle, and a caloric deficit to drop fat. At that point, you have to pick one. YMMV but I've found when I'm mainly lifting weights, my appetite goes through the roof, even though I'm not burning nearly as many calories as when I'm mainly running.
Alas yes, you need calories to build mass - but given as Yak is probably a long way off and it was inferred from the muscles burning fat that they needed calories, I didn't think it was worth a mention just yet My new compression shorts arrived today though and I'm loving them already and I'm looking forwards to resuming cycling later on through more Stargate SG-1
Well, you lost 10k previously. I think you'll find the second time it's eaiser... mentally, at least, which is usually the biggest hurdle! I recall years ago you saying you hated washoku (can't believe that). Honestly though, it can be the healthiest food out there.
I do hate washoku. Brown dull looking shit where everything has a bland taste. I do like tempura though without bloody shouyu on it. Basically I don't like japanese shouyu or miso. I was brought up on the Chinese version of shouyu.
Sounds like you're eating in the wrong places. Anyway, if you're against Japanese food, then you're probably going to need to cook your own if you want to eat healthily. Even in Japan there's very little calorie-friendly restaurant food.
Yeah, I know where you are coming from there. We hardly eat out anyway to be honest. Maybe once a week at most. I do love my Veg though. I'm very happy eating raw carrots, onions, potatoes and so on.
what ever you do don't use diet pills as i have heard that create internal bleeding, dehydration and many many more critical side-affects.
