Yeah, that title screen is a HK hack, no doubt about it. Pirates always choose very washed out color schemes. Plus it just looks like bullshit. I don't doubt the seller's honesty, as from his homepage he just looks like a regular guy.

Here's the link Mr. Casual, care of Mr.saturn.
From the site I'd say the guy is a tool, no higher-thinking going on on it's own.

I came to think of another thing.. if this IS a prototype cart that accordint to the seller is 60% done (wonder where he got that number from..) then WHY does it look like it does?
I mean if I'm not fully misstaken, but most nes prototype/devcarts have hole in the cart for easy access to the eprom for reprogramming.. and also it looked like it used the nintendo type screws.. why would they put that on a prototype? I don't know.. but atleast if I would develop a game I would make sure I had easy access to the eproms and also use standard screws instead of special ones you have to have special equipment to open.

Gaijin I metioned that part of him putting ASSEMbler games on his list, already! ;)

I just hope not a lot of people go there and find us. The last thing we need are more 0 and 1 posters.

I'm currently undecided. Sure, there are quite a few discrepancies, but there are also correlations between statements made by people who (ostensibly) have not contacted each other. If it turns out to be real, then yay. If not, then whoopdedoo, I'm not spending any money on it so it doesn't affect me.

On the chance that it ends up being real, I really hope the ROM gets dumped. It would be very interesting to dig through the ROM binary and look for unreferenced tiles and other data.

It screams "hack" to me, although I suppose it would be odd that it hasn't turned up before. I'm no pirating expert, but wouldn't there be more than one copy made?

As someone else pointed out, though, why is it in English? I think that's wierd even if it is a hack, since I don't see many hacks/pirates/whatever you want to call its being sold here. Maybe it's just because I'm in North Carolina.

Well, in a situation like this, I think the best way to figure out is to have the cart dumped and the ROM analyzed. It's up to him, of course, but it would help immensely. I've never heard of a "Triforce Saga" hack, however, and Google turned up nothing for me, so I'm basically waiting to see if any more information about the cart is posted before I decide for myself whether it's real or fake.

There are people that would be willing to do this and also be willing to keep the ROM undistributed, if there's a fear of devaluing.

  14. Babu made a very good point: Nintendo proto carts have historically had A) a hole for easy EEPROM access, and B) normal flathead screws for easy access to the board inside. That right there seems a bit odd.

will see, but still who in their right mind would bother making a pirate thats in an nes cart, i mean this guy doesnt seem like a hacker, and yes im as skeptical as everyoje else as this seems to be a hack, but we wont know till he reveals. Still like everyone else i highly doubt its for real, but if it was, i wouldnt be too shocked, remember no one though that earthbound was for real, and it was, whats funny is too no one knew about alot of nintnedo titles that got canceled, i mean no one ever knew or though nintendogs was actually a cube game before getting ported to ds.

Its the truth, though! We have about 630 members with 0 posts and about 140-150 with 1 post. I got this by typing it in an advanced member search, BTW.

How can you tell if he is honest or a hacker just by looking at him? Are hackers horribly deformed or something? :D

Have you guys been reading the comments his posts have generated? Some random guy mentioned the 60% thing... which is creepy. Some people seem to be perpetuating the rumour.

Who is making this up?! :smt1062

People do get excited about this kind of thing, especially Zelda related stuff In actual fact the most likely Famicom protos to turn up are obscure boring games. It is hugely unlikely to turn up on a Nes cart, especially one that looks like this, It just doesn't seem likely. There is so much to doubt here, but the very nature of the game and hype that surrounds it along the one in a million chance that its real, means that it gets recognition as well as certain people very excited (and eager to gat their wallets out).

Looking at the original Ebay posting I would say that it looks very much I guy trying to score some quick cash. If he was serious about making money, he would have tested it and used the info to get a big auction going. No-one is stupid enough to not test a potentialy obscenely valuable item and get whats its worth.
