I read every NP from issue one well into the N64 age. Unless they did a more recent "going back in time" type story covering unreleased games, there was nothing ever mentioned in the magazine from issue 1 to around 90.

Yeah, but did you actually see anyone buy them? You can see $3 Genesis games (US release) listed for 5,000 yen plus in Akihabara... and they just sit there.

Anyways... should we now start bashing the guy at ratedo that says he's played the one and only cartridge? Anyone find it funny that NOBODY would've heard about this in America (or Japan where it was most likely developed) until some redneck at a flea market decided to sell it for $20? Smells like bullshit... a big pile of it.

forgot to write this in my other post.. but I read the article that he had scaned in.. that according to him talks about the nes zelda3... it says NOTHING about zelda for nes.. and it's also says Zelda IV not Zelda III and it's the gameboy ver. that is 70% finished.. and they are refering to the fact that the graphic is based of Zelda - A link to the past (the SNES game).. NOT some imaginated game called Zelda - The triforce saga.
And a not-so-important note.. if this game is 60% (and I still can't get where they got this number from) finished.. why would they label it as a beta?

maybe.. but the revision number doesn't indicate how finished a game is as far as I know..
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Revision_control

it's like the game-engine we work with at my jobb it's up in version 13.x and it still isn't finished

hey its nice to see that people are staring to let themselves believe :D like most here i presumed it was a hack or just bullshit, but id like it to be true, good name as well. i like how in that picture its too dark to see what the image is actually displayed on, it could so easily just be a large monitor showing a photoshopped pic with a nes on the floor underneath it.

WHAT????? how the hell have i never heard of this??? i want

well.. I for one will probaly never belive it's true (until someone like Miyamoto confirms it) b\c I know how easy something like this is to do..
all you need is a eprom programmer, a mario cart and two eproms (and a _little_ asm knowledge).
I could probably throw up something similar in a day or two, except I don't have a eprom programmer..

I thought he was being sarcastic about Street Fighter 3 on the 64DD, to ironically highlight the atmosphere of the situation. (?)

But thought it rude to ask if that was the case...

you'll also notice that these screens are not apearaing in the final Link's awakening. If you read everything on the page, you should know whatthe guy said about it. If what he says is true, the game was changed into link's awakening, and tweaked/changed so much that it's not ''zelda 3'' anymore, but a project based on it.

i'm still trying to contact the owner by any mean. i've registered to the forum of his website in order to view the list of members with infos on them. Maybe i'll find his email there. Now i just need to wait untill the modero accept my registeration...but it think i will have to wait ... and wait.

On his blog, he states that someone want to bid on his cart, anmd that he's very interested... i just wish we don't loose the track of it. And i want further informations about it too. We never know now. if it's true, we could maybe put some cash in a jackpot, buy it and dump it? :p

i love the way on that site he repeatedly refers to the one that he supposedly had that has conveniently broken without him ever taking any screenshots of it as the "real" proto and even seems sceptical about the ebay one!

how long has that page been there? has it just popped up since this ebay auction appeared or has there been info on this on the net for ages and nobody has never found it?

well i wasnt being sarcastic about the street fighter 3 on 64dd remark, it was more jokingly in a senes that even though no one has reported a prototype of this, i remember there were rumors about it adn this one import uk 64 magazine i would get somtimes had a small artical about it and how its possible release was being delayed due to 64dd not being released, in fact in that same one they were talking about at the time how a metroid for 64 was somewhat in the planning stages, but sadly alas i threw away those mags, too bad it had a lot of beta pics of start fox and mission impossible i remember. In fact one of their best features was which console at the time had the best sounds (suprisingly and shockingly the saturn WON!!!!).

Was this "N64 Magazine" by any chance? Arguably the best N64 mag in the UK, made by the old Superplay team. I have alot of the issues, and I too recall info about a lot of planned games. Their Spaceworld issue was excellent.

    Can't be TOO long!

Well the entire site Rated O seems to have only been up about a year and has never generated enough traffic/interest to be listed by Archive.org.
It seems the sites general template-based layout places more recent news/articles at the top of the indexes.
Taking a look at his articles page you can see The Mystery Behind Zelda III is the most recent article. Can't be that old.

So what's the story with this guy? Is he legit or just pulling a scam?

Even if this is a Zelda hack of the GB version, that would be interesting, and I'm sure Zelda people would want to see it.

ok, I too was a huge fan of NP and once never heard about a NES zelda 3 except in a unofficial strategy guide/paperback for ALTTP in which it stated (remember, written in 1992) that Nintendo was planning a 8-bit Zelda III for release in 1993. (which is when zelda la was released)

Personally, unless one of the two guys decide to show more than similar pics or title screens, I'm not buying it. It does look extremely phony and I agree that with that article, if its true, he would have taken a pic, dumped the image, or at least try to get the EEPROM repaired. For all we know, this guy can be in cahoots with the other (or they may be one and the same)

anyways, still, I hope for the best

Probably just one of those clone gameboy to famicom rips, then burned onto erpoms.
I have mortal kombat on nes, doesn't mean acclaim had some secret dev team on a forgotten game.
