Before we get all stupid. That price is not correct at all and came out of EB game's ass. If you haven't picked up on what the price will be from my post, it's not my fault you're an idiot. If you must ask why you should trust me, Again you are an idiot. That is all. -edit- Speaking of witch. I think Sony called it NGP (it's code name since conception) means they might be considering not calling the device simply PSP2 and are looking for a new name to brand it. Interesting in my opinion. If anybody throws the name Vita arround, that would be as wrong as saying the Gamecube's launch name is dolphin or Wii is Revolution. That's just an internal name.
For serious. There's what, a handful of sports games and Wipeout HD that have proper, honest to God, native 1080p (excluding some little PSN games)? All the rest are variations on 720p, 1024x768 etc with a smattering of AA if you're lucky. Some upscale that to 1080p but not many. In terms of native res the 360 has even fewer true 1080p games but at least the upscaling to 1080p is "free".
Why does everyone think that I thought that was the price . . . I know that just gamestop being morons. And actually I don't think its ugly at all, I kind of like the way it looks . . . thanks for the explanation of the acronym though! -Disjaukifa
I am fully aware of all the bullshit lawsuits over specs etc and upscaling. My point is that the games would likely look like garbage when scaled up to a 60 Inch monitor when put beside a ps3... AA is another thing. I am a techy person but never understood why it kills performance so fast... Guess a lot of math. So if the ps3 doesn't do a lot of FSAA why do the games look as good as they do. Also consider textures. Rage is said to use almost an entire BR Disc for them. How big are these SD cards for the psp2?
Of course it will. 544p vs 720p or even 1080p will always look worse the bigger the display gets... nothing new there. You're missing the point again =/ 544p is fine for 5 inch not 60inch. it is not intended to go on 60" nor is that even in any way shape or form relevant as it is only intended to be equivalent under certain circumstances =/ Because they have just enough to get by and are in 720p? :S
Figured I post a picture for everyone to see . . . I like the look of it, and from other pictures I've seen, its actually going to have normal analog sticks, not the ones the original PSP had . . . -Disjaukifa
I saw the video in the announcment thread but didn't commnt on the system there. PS button, start and select definitely look like they are too close to the sticks for accidental pressing IMO. Imagine trying to move around to be constantly told do you want to exit the game or check out the menu lol Mayb it is only a problem for us clumsy typs but whatever they need to move to the bottom if not for nostalgia, for my sanity. XMB looks too artsy fartsy and overly complicated too. Friends list via PSP would be nice though can't do anything like that on my PSP-300X AFAIK =/
As for the argument of "there's no games in 1080p!!!!": That's because we're living in an age where console games are in 720p, but television sets and other displays are 1080 or higher resolution. We've been trained to have this 1080 standard and then have the tendency to complain when things aren't up to that standard. Save that (or higher res) for next-gen. It just isn't in the cards. It's an inherit property of console games to have a ceiling. We can optimize and optimize and write games that push the boundaries in their own way, but there is a limit and in many cases, 720 is the limit of the current generation (at the very least when time and money are a factor, which they certainly are in this market). This brings up a thought. What's the definition of HD? 720 is "HD". 1080 is "HD". That's a big difference (in number of pixels, especially square pixels) to have the same designation (do we say "full HD" for 1080?). So, is the NGP/PSP2's display "HD" because it's a higher res than what has been deemed "SD"?] Just curious.
I think both high-end consoles start to show their age if you view them on a 1080p screen that's large/close enough that you can see what's happening. The jagged edges are really noticeable in a lot of games. Does this matter? Not really, to me at least, it's just one of those things.
Really? Wouldn't that make the sticks very prone to breakage? Considering it's a portable product? I've seen more broken sticks at demo kiosks than I can count.
I've also seen the analog sticks broken on both Playstation and Xbox Kiosk units as well. Yeah it could break, just depends on how well you take care of it. I rather have to be a little more careful and have really analog sticks than use what the original PSP had, I hated that joystick . . . -Disjaukifa
Perhaps if I were to see a $4500 alien ware super computer on a sixty inch i would see a difference. God of war 3 is a great example of what a developer can do with beautiful textures and 720p while keeping the frame rate in mind. I've yet to see a game that looks better than that anywhere. Haven't played uncharted 2 yet though. The psp2 won't need the same textures to fill the smaller screen but it'll be interesting to see how large the games are.
I cringe now to think of price. If any doesn't consider this a product for anything but "responsible adults" you can add 10% onto the price tag since the core demographic can likely pay extra. Don't Sony. Please don't market this as a "luxury item" like most other stuff in the sony store. Please!
Do consider this though, the original Playstation was targeted at 19 year olds, which at the time was unusual since the average demographic for video games was for 12 year olds if I remember correctly. I agree with what someone else said earlier in this thread, Sony will probably price this to make the new Nintendo 3DS at 249.99. -Disjaukifa
I notice a clear difference between 720p and 1080p on my 23" TFT. Obviously I appreciate that 1080p isn't possible for most games on current hardware, but that doesn't change the observable fact that the games are running in non-optimal resolutions, and you don't need a super computer or a 60" screen to see it. That's really all I was trying to say.
$999.99 is a standard placeholder price in Gamestop's system for any new console. The same thing happened with Nintendo 3DS. People would pre-order then panic at the price. The employees then reassure them its only temporary.
