    Yeah, I misinterpreted the piece at first, too, when I read "2010" and saw the picture of Sekine-san and he looked so young!

    This might sound like a tech question, but it's actually a language question since I need someone to take a quick look at a Japanese manual for me!

    I'm trying to get my home theater setup, which consists of my TV (obviously) my AV receiver, a switcher, and Xbox and the XRGB mini. I'm trying to get the switcher to output the Xbox's optical audio to the AV receiver. The basic setup is the AV receiver is connected to the TV (via HDMI) and my speakers. The AV receiver is connected to my XRGB mini via HDMI. And my XRGB mini is connected to my switcher via a D connector. And finally, the Xbox is connected to the switcher via a D connector an optical audio.

    Anyway, here's the manual for my switcher:
    http://www33.jvckenwood.com/pdfs/download.php?Model=JX-D800&File=LNT0058-001A

    I've got the Xbox connected to input 3 (left side of the machine) using a D connector and an optical audio cable. I've got the XRGB mini connected via D to output 2 (right side of the machine) and also on output 2 I've got the optical audio cable going to my AV receiver. The manual shows a setup just like this, so I assume I'm not doing anything weird. I get the picture no problems, but no audio. My AV receiver is setup correctly, as when I plug the optical cable directly into the AV receiver, the audio comes though. The break in the chain is happening at the switcher. I'm guessing you need to somehow swap from the switcher outputting via the RCA connectors to optical, but I've pressed everything and I can't seem to get it to do this!

    *EDIT* It works if I connect the Xbox's optical audio to input 2, but not input 3. Any idea why this might be? The switcher has an optical connector in input 3, why wouldn't it be functional?

    @fireaza have you tried connecting the xrgb mini to the input 3 and see if it works that way. If it is giving the same issue, it could be a manufacture issue and that the optical input isn't working on input 3. At first I was thinking that the xbox is going through the mini, however, this was not the case. The only other thing I can think of is if the xbox optical cable is not an original(that is if we are talking original xbox) I know 3rd party company in the past have made these connections available, but some with not so hot quality.

    Got it to work! Seems like it might be the cable that runs between the AV receiver and the switcher. When I use one of them, (and the audio is actually coming through) the audio usually cuts out and stays cut out when I switch to a different input and back again. A different cable doesn't do this. Seems the cable is bad.

    I should have asked about this in 2014, when I first did my research on the PSX. Within its PCDVDMAN module, SONY added a few functions that seem to deal with identifying the unit MECHACON.

    For the system type byte (4th byte) on a console with a MECHACON that is at least v5.6, these values will cause PCDVDMAN to report the following that I can't understand:
    0x10 -> 原理試作機
    0x00 -> 量産 OR 量産試作機
    0x20 -> 手作り試作機
    0x30 -> 型物試作機

    For consoles with MECHACON versions older than v5.6, which I can't understand either: "X_model 旧原理試作機 Ver5.6未満 Found"

    So far, we've not seen any consoles with values other than 0x00 (PS2) and 0x01 (PSX), hence most of these messages are likely to be never shown.

    Thanks in advance!

    0x10 -> initial prototype
    0x00 -> mass production OR mass production prototype
    0x20 -> handmade prototype
    0x30 -> molded(?!?) prototype

    The Katakana is easy enough, but I can't help with the kanji.

    1. Wide shot
    2. 123 laser
    3. Soap bullets?!
    11. Weapon
    12. Body
    13. Preview
    14. I think is incoming mail (メール is e-mail)
    15. (good counting! :p ) Time

    7 has something to do with left and right, and 10 something to do with up and down.
    8 I think is decide (confirm)
    9 I think is something to do with e-mail again

    Someone will be able to better assist with the kanji, I'm sure!

    "Outside of coverage" - more specifically, it's what the older Japanese phones showed when they couldn't pick up a signal - once you got a signal, it was replaced by an antenna icon and a signal strength indicator.
