Sorry, there's a wealth of evidence of MNEMO being unprofessional. I personally advise everyone who asks me to steer clear of him. Damage done.

My first hand experience was a perfect transaction, super fast delivery that was packaged well, and the device is awesome. I am sure lots of other people had the same experience too. See how that works. :)

Everyone has read horror stories from both sides, I don't see how telling people to "stay away" from one of them is helping anything.

It's not like either of them has a steady stock you can just order like you do with the Everdrives for example... both of the manufacturers have a ritual to order, both are really weird at times. You weight your needs, take your chances and order one of the two devices, simple as that.

This is a homebrew scene, it's not Amazon or Target or Apple, where there are thousands of reviews on a project. It's a community, and if you treat part of the community with disrespect, how are we not to assume the same won't apply to me or you?

MNEMO blew a cash cow with Stone Age Gamer, that's on him. If he really wants to repair bridges, how about start by releasing menu code to the community, so a 3rd party menu can be built to replace the archaic one he uses?

So we are supposed to take the MMENO & SAG business deal failure personally and defend either of them? wth? Is somehow SAG (or any other business) the bar we set so we get to judge others? Their business deal fell and that's that, welcome to the business world.
Is there an example of MNEMO ripping off someone? stealing their money and never sending a device? Now that would be a great argument to use, not a businesses deal gone south...

Also I don't get why does he have to "repair bridges" because of the SAG incident? Just because GDEMU did not have any kind of menu and Deunan had to release some kind of framework it doesn't mean that MNEMO (being special himself - let's not forget that) has to do the same when he does offer a menu to select/load your images via a simple gui and not just 2 buttons to blindly browse them.

I will repeat it again, BOTH have a ritual to order , BOTH handle their sales without an optimal way. There is no point discussing this further IMHO from a "community point of view", other than stating order/communication experiences.
One reads said posts, decides on pros/cons and orders either device through a process that could be described as a huge chore - and that's why personally I can't really say that one or the other device are to be avoided <because reasons> , neither is perfect or easily purchasable to begin with.

    Agreed, wholeheartedly.

I ordered BOTH devices, and for both of them the process was indeed a "chore," with lots of communication required from me, special requirements for each order process, and several misunderstandings or areas where I would have appreciated a different resolution or style, content, or frequency of communication from them.

In the end, I sold my GDEMU and kept the USB-GDROM, as I liked the feature-set better and it met the needs of my collection and way that I play better than the GDEMU.

    As they say...YMMV...

Good luck to all readers that are considering either one!

Feel free to PM me if you want more discussion or have questions that can't be answered by reading first (and you should indeed read first...the details of both devices are all out there to see, in pages and pages of gorey Internet-forum detail...!)

Looks like a new firmware is almost ready. There's a message on the site asking for beta testers.

If you have 16/04/26 shown on the main screen, you have the latest fw. If, not just run the bin file. You cannot overwrite/re-flash an existing version or downgrade either.

New firmware released. In typical fashion, there is no info with it. Anyone know what features this adds?

The readme file lists the changes:
I have a problem with my controller, one I've had since I bought it last year - the new firmware doesn't solve it. Roughly 70% of the time the Dreamcast boots to the swirl logo screen without a sound effect or animation, and locks there. Dr. MNEMO hasn't been able to help. I don't suppose anybody here has any ideas, or has seen (and fixed!) similar? If it boots normally then everything works fine, I can boot all my images off the SanDisk USB stick I'm using. I've tried different USB sticks and drives, and all show the same problem.

This is great news. MNEMO did get back to be, so I do have a V5 in route to me.

This happens to me on my old v1 when no usb is connected. I'd be curious to know how small 2.5" harddrive works instead a flash drive.

Do you guys "shrink" your games before adding those to USB?

Does anyone know how much space the entire USA NTSC set would take if all dummy space where removed?

The space it saves is very variable on the game, from a few kB to multiple hundred MB.

I should totally be able to add a shrink option to gditools that does the minimum to the files (no extracting and repacking). Is there an interest?

I truncated the entire US catalogue. It is 189GB. Easily fits on 256GB thumb drive

So when the USB-GDROM v5 was first posted as available at 3do-revolution, I emailed the seller hours after the site updated. I've since tried emailing them a couple more times and haven't received a response. Do they pick and choose who to sell to? Am I missing something when trying to submit an order? Any tips on securing one of these things? Thanks

Absolutely. I'd be interested in such a feature.
