I've not had any problems with usb 3.0 drives so you should be able rule that out, I'm using a 2tb WD elements

A full format is my next option and the 500 GB is in my PC now chugging along with a NON quick format. It will take a while though... Hopefully that will do the trick. If after the full format it won't work, then I'm at a loss as to why I'm able to run and play CDI/GDI off of USB stick, but not on hard drive.

OK thanks, so there must be something else then. I only tried the HD after I got the USB stick to work properly. WIth firmware 2016-12-04, the USB stick became unreadable on PC every time I stuck into USB GD-ROM. Firmware 2106-12-08 corrected and now I can insert into USB-GDROM all I want and PC can still read. I wonder if the newer firmware messed up something with the hard drive. I *LIKE* the unit and it's cool playing GDIs, but I may have to return/exchange if I can't get the hard drive part to work.

Use miniaide or rufus to format. Others are garbage. Full format. Fat32. Generic cases are best due to having no firmware that others might have.

I found the problem and thanks for recommending MINIAIDE. It was the ONLY FAT32 formatter that showed the partition type as "GPT". It seems that Windows 10 likes to create GPT partitions on external drives by default. After converting to MBR, the drive BOOTED. So here are the new requirements for hard drives if any one is having issues:
    1. Use FAT32
    2. Use 64 Clusters.
    3. Make sure that hard drive partition is MBR. *** VERY IMPORTANT OR YOUR DRIVE WON'T BOOT **
As recommended, use MINIAIDE to do the above.

FYI, I just copied a couple of GDIs and CDIs (including Shenmue 2 GDI and Mars Matrix CDI) as a test and they both ran. Yay!!!!!!!

Why does it seem like with every update something else breaks? Swap is broken.

Edit: Fixed. My new drive wasn't in 64k clusters.

Also I am currently looking for a copy of codebreaker that works with the save files from blue swirl. Both popular downloads refuse to work. I was hoping someone here could share their copy of a working codebreaker image. I am trying to cheat at sonic adventure 2.

I haven't updated the firmware since I got it a few years ago. I REFUSE to even download FW until he includes a new menu.

Yah the menu looks like ass compared to the unofficial one that gdemu use's. It is one of the few downsides in comparison to it's competitor. Another thing I hate is having to use the launch dashboard iso to get to the normal menu.

Is anyone else having problems using the latest firmware (2017/05/30) and various games, an example being Dead or Alive 2 Final? I have been finding that sound in some of these games do not play correctly and in DOA2 Final it also consistently crashes. I have taken some footage and put it up on YouTube to give an example. Game was working prior to the firmware update so no other changes to setup. I also know it was working fine on USB-GDROM because my second card with its original firmware still plays everything perfectly.

Ive been having issues with lastest firmware too. Sometimes the games fail to boot and just take me to Dreamcast system Menu.

Anyone else having issues where games take a few attempts to boot up? Some games I try never have problems btw.

I messaged MNEMO about it but he just referred me to his "Tech help guide" which didn't really provide any help to this issue.
Have you emailed him as well on it? I think if more people point it out hopefully he'll fix it in another firmware update.

I messaged MNEMO about this and he stated he would fix the issue I mentioned above in the next firmware update. Then I got another message after I sent him the YouTube and DOA2 final download link and he stated all was working for him. As mentioned above I have two USB-GDROM's, one with it's original firmware and the other updated to the latest. I am entirely sure this is solely a firmware issue because all was working fine prior to the update. I have also asked if its possible to downgrade the firmware to it's original version without any joy...

This is why I don't instantly update to a new firmware, unless it adds more features to the current one or a major bug fix. Sorry to hear you guys are having issues with the latest build, as I know it can be frustrating.

He should implement a downgrade option (GDEMU can use reflash to a earlier fw, so cannot see why Mnemo cannot do this), as it took a few months for him to fix the D2 swap that he screwed up last year.
