www.cnn.com I should mention that I think CNN and most other reporting websites are sensationalist garbage and I hate them all, but unfortunately I'm not aware of any decent online reporting. I want to know exactly how people get so fucked in the head that they think killing 30+ innocent people is a good idea. In case anyone is wondering, Jack Thompson has already blamed this on videogames (Vice City to be exact). I have never hated this bastard as much as I do now. Also, President Bush is "horrified."
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/6560685.stm Frontpage BBC news right now. Some nasty shit. Yeah, the fallout from this is going to be pretty big, and you can bet Jack Thompson will be there with his chequebook open ready to capitalise.
its on most news sites now. I think it's sick that not everything is known and dear ole jack is already on tv proclaiming this is because of video games. For the love of god that man needs to be disbarred NOW!!
My intention wasn't for this to turn into a Jack Thompson hate-fest, but I'll go ahead and say that I seriously hope the man rotts in the darkest corner of hell. He deserves no less if he's trying to capitalize on a tragedy like this.
I was actually surprised that there was someone on MSNBC who made a comment to the effect of: millions of people watch violent movies and play video games without any ill effects, so we should not look to restricting them due to one disturbed individual. For reference, there is a post on the Anandtech off topic forums with people on campus posting. They had the news up before most of the news agencies did.
At least 22 are confirmed dead. The rest have to be officially confirmed. It's the media pushing this after some cop blurted the number. Official reports of how many were exactly wounded/killed will be made within the coming hours.
Not sure about the coverage in the US but the UK (BBC 24) reporting has sighted 31 dead in the second incident, 2 in the first. Some confusion during the long press conference as to whether the incidents were related or not. Surely it cannot be coincedental? I frankly don't give a shit what good ol' Jack has to say on this or any other matter. The main concern to me are the families, friends and loved ones of those who have lost some one in this incident. The scale of this shooting spree is just incredible. What a fucking loss of human life. Brings back many sad memories of Dunblane for me, which is where several primary school children & a teacher were brutally gunned down in their class roughly 30mins drive from here. A small community ripped apart by a psychopathic gun nut.
I beg to differ with that asshole. if anything, the recent war-games of US are more gun-happy than any M rated game - there's a rating for a reason, you can't blame AIDS or teenage pregnancy on porn for example.
I am a student here, about an hour before the main shooting i walked by the building with the second incident, Norris; I just had class in the building right beside it at 8am. I really don't feel like discussing it anymore, but as far as I know right now no one I know was involved but until the names come out I don't know...
I could care less about Jack Thompson right now. This whole situation is horrible. My condolences to the families.
I was watching CNN about an hour ago and there was this one bitch with an agenda moaning about how it's all becasue of "violent porn garbage" and a professor who was pretty down to earth, who said that we should worry more about making kids put on bike helmets, cause that kills a bunch more than madmen do. Murder happens, whether or not there's shit on your TV or not. Some people are gonna kill, no matter what happens. Stop trying to take away our liberties so you can feel safer. You can never be safe, but we can be free, and if you take away the freedom, we still won't have safety.
That's got to be tough. I wish you the best, man. After reading a little more, I'd just like to say that reporters are a bunch of vultures.
someone needs to email him the link to this... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bath_School_disaster some crazy bastard killed 45 people at a school in 1927. That was well before tv's, internet, and videogames. You can't do much to protect from one crazy person ruining so many innocent people's lives.
I remember back in junior high there was this army-wannabe guy who was talking all the time about shooting people and shit. One day I heard him said he was going to bring a gun to school next day, so I decided (with some of my friends too) to skip school tomorrow. Man we were right on the spot: that asshole got busted while trying to smuggle a magnum .357 into school, and was sent to some juvenile jail in god knows where. I heard that a year ago or so he got shot in the head and died while trying to rob a 7eleven. Apparently there was an off-duty cop in the place when he decided to go inside. Thats all I know... Anyway, about Jack, hes a nobody now, he even got displaced by the florida lawyer asociation I think. Plus it seems most politicians try to avoid him all the time. But the one I'm really worried about is "right-wing" hillary, since she has way more power and influence that Jacko, and has already used games for her own political benefit. So since shes trying to beat Obama and the republicans at the same time I'm sure shes going to blame both videogames and Bush for this shooting. I'm just sorry for all our fellow geeks at VT, since (from what I heard) the shooting took place in the engineering building. Too bad that fucker shot himself (or got shot to death) cuz I would like to see him fried in the chair for all this...
