Here is another lovely abandonware site Revival of DOS Games |Staré DOS hry zadarmo na stiahnutie| http://www.dosgames.sk/
I see disturbing lack of Fallout 1 and 2 (better than Fallout 3 and New Vegas by MILES), Planescape Torment and Arcanum. I am more of a SNES/PS1 gamer, but these ones are my FAVORITE RPG's on any system. Planescape was more of an interactive book than RPG, but still it has one of the best (if not the best) stories in any RPG.
CanOfTheRelics: do you like the old SSI classics too ? since they are smashing great too. But if you are into Plainscape Torment, then I think you will like Baldurs Gate 1 and 2, and the Icewindale series too . Which can be bought pretty cheap, that is how I got my hands on every infinity engine game except for Planescape Torment. Which a friend of mine has. And the open source alternative engine GemRB, has been ported to Amiga OS 4 too, so people can enjoy the games there too.
Actually (sorry for the necro bump) but there has been made new backwards compatible engines that looks better , when it comes Wolf3d and Spear Of destiny and so forth. Thanks to the engine has gone open source.
You mean Srategic Simulations, Inc.? Haven't played much of them I liked their Buck Rogers. I completed Baldurs Gate 2 but not the first one. I am thinking about finishing it. Planescape Torment is really good even though it is mostly story based. P.S. I have heard good things about Temple Of Elemental Evil (it's a newer game), but apparently you need patches (which I've heard are a mandatory).
For me the must have PC titles are * Ripper * Blade Runner * Tales Of Monkey Island * All the Lucas arts titles * Carmageddon That's to name but a few, for me I collect all the point and click adventure games along with the FMV titles that no one else likes
Forgot to mention Heroes Of Might and Magic series. (my favorite turn based strategy games). 3rd and 4th ones are the best. Might and Magic 7 is also very good.
Games, I can recommend you from SSI are as follows. Eye Of The Beholder 1 through 3 (number two is actually my favourite of those). The FRUA engine games from SSI I can recommend are Pools Of Darkness , Gateway To The Savage Frontier, and Treasures of The Savage Frontier, well I can actually recommend you all of the Forgotten Realms FRUA engine games, except perhaps Hillsfar. But all the other games that happens in the world of Forgotten Realms world, and uses the FRUA engine are some I recommend you. So if I have to take them chronologically , then start with Pool of Radiance, Curse Of The Azure Bonds, Secret Of The Silver Blades , Gateway To The Savage Frontier, Treasures Of The Savage Frontier and if you are a bit of an editing and game making freak, then Forgotten Realms: Unlimited Adventures. Is something that could make you smile too. I can personally not recommend you the Dragonlance series of FRUA games. But they are as follows Champions Of Krynn, Deathknights Of Kryn , and The Dark Queen Of Kryn http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gold_Box http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Forgotten_Realms_Unlimited_Adventures (FRUA)
That game is fun and awesome, hell you can even import your party into Dragon Wars from the BT series of games.
Has anyone mention 7th Guest and 11th Hour. Great puzzlers games, but I will warn you that 11th Hour is real hard and it doesn't follow 7th Guest ending. =Hugh
Talking of SSI I am surprised no one mentioned War wind 1 and 2 back in the day those two strategy games made warcraft look like a kids game.
7th Guest was the first PC game I bough for myself. Well, it was actually for my friend and myself because he had the computer. It was the Mac version. What a great game! I got that, Decent, and Myst. Was very, very hyped about Myst from looking at the box shots... the graphics seemed photo-realistic! I was so pissed when I got home and found they were just still pictures. So pissed I never played it. But my friend became addicted.
