My grails would be: Ninja Gaiden 1 and 2 NES prototype Sealed Resident Evil 2 (PS1 non greatest hits) Ninja Gaiden III for the Playchoice 10
My holy grail is Sonic and Knuckles prototype from 5/25/94 build 15.28. It is the complete game before it was split into the 2 games that locked together. There are a few key differences in it from the final games. I have the ROM thanks to one of the members here dumping it over at Sonic Retro back in 2008. Plays well on original hardware through my Everdrive MD and even saves my progress to the "SRAM" Sonic 3 carts have. (I use the title "SRAM" since it's emulated on the Everdrive.) I prefer it over the final release.
I'm interested in that, but the hidden-palace link is down . can you upload a link or point me in the right direction?
GoldenEye (N64). I'm actually not sure if I'd prefer something early with a lot of differences to final or something closer to final with functional multiplayer and the extra Bond characters that got cut. Reading through the thread, Mega Man Legends 3 is another good one. Also, if the Famicom Final Fantasy IV really was 80% complete like this claims, I'd love to see it surface. Edit: Speaking of Final Fantasy, how could I forgot the WSC remake of Final Fantasy III? Supposedly canned for cart size reasons, then ditched in favor of the (lousy, IMO) DS remake. No real evidence that it ever existed outside of one mockup-looking screenshot.
It'd be nice to see a concept US Megadrive before the Genesis name was finalized. If they got that far.
Hmmm, my holy grail would be any alpha/beta build of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, the game evolved so much during development.
Love to get ahold of any unreleased N64 title. 64 Wars would be a wonderful find, or for that matter Cu On Pa 64.
add to the list: Aliens:Colonial marines E3 demo. the finished product is nothing like the final release. you can read the current blame game for while the game released was nothing like the demo playthrough here :http://www.destructoid.com/so-who-the-hell-did-make-aliens-colonial-marines--244939.phtml I want that demo so badly it looks like the movie.
A development build of Super Mario Sunshine that included whatever parts of the train system that was planned. I would love to roam around in [this](http://www.mariowiki.com/List_of_Super_Mario_Sunshine_beta_elements) Delfino plaza for a change. Even an NR review copy would make me ecstatic. Alas, I cant seem to get in touch with Virtual Alan :/ ......why? Why would you pay THAT much for a videogame? No matter how rare, that's sooooo much money I cant even.
For me it would be any early/unreleased builds of the Dead or Alive games, especially the early arcade prototype used to make this promotional flyer:
