I think I'm the only one who wants it, but I would love to play the original version of Shadow The Hedgehog(aliens with pink blood, gun soldiers die, maria getting shot, etc.)
Mine are, in no particular order: Shenmue Saturn Half-Life Katana Virtua Fighter 3 Saturn Virtua Fighter 4 Dreamcast Monkey Ball Dreamcast Dee Dee Planet
I'm sure it's been brought up already, but Ocarina of Time. I spent a lot of time looking at beta stuff for that game in the early 2000s, so I'd love a full prototype (although I doubt it will ever be released). Runners up would probably be Banjo-Kazooie (mainly for cut levels and Stop 'n Swop functionality), Pokemon Red/Green, and Kingdom Hearts (which I'm pretty sure is impossible at this point, due to most of the original data being lost).
Although I could list quite a few, I've limited myself to just the ten unreleased games I'd love to get my hands on the most... the majority of these being for the Saturn, oddly enough: BioHazard 2 (last known PlayStation build of "1.5" scenario) Destruction Derby 2 Formula 1 Ico (original PlayStation prototype) Into The Shadows Killzone (original PlayStation prototype) Saturn Virtua Fighter 3 (surprise!) Shenmue Saturn Version Sonic Xtreme (not long now, fingers crossed) The Getaway (original PlayStation prototype) Many of these are known to still exist, though I doubt we'll ever have the opportunity to experience them. Indeed, my guess is that Sonic Xtreme will end up being the only certainty.
Are you sure formula 1 was developed for the Saturn? I would visit Bizarre Creations alot during that time also taking my Saturn for them to check out some games. They never once showed anything of any Saturn game development or even talked about it. They did have a brainstorming session for a game that turned out to be Fur Fighters on the Dreamcast!
Hello! I am new to the board and I just finished reading through this thread and would like to add pretty much any and all Sega 32X games. There is one in particular that I would love to see that may not be out of the realm of possibility: Heavy Machinery. By some accounts this game was completed (I believe it was even reviewed) and it looked rather promising as a second generation 32X title. Hopefully one day it will come to light. I believe it was made by Scavenger who worked on X-Men as well. I've got my fingers crossed!
That's a good list Some new ones too, Killzone, Getaway and Ico. Those would be so sick to play on a PSX.
Mine would be the unreal engine 3 COMPLETE source code from 2011..... its HUGE or a Gears 3 build dated from 2009
Unlike so many of the games promoted in magazines as Saturn-bound, Formula 1 wasn't just teasing yet ultimately false words accompanied by misleading PlayStation screenshots (naming no names, Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee!). I distinctly recall quite a few of my local stores even having promotional material for this highly anticipated conversion, which I believe would have been published internally through Sega Europe in September 1997. The most obvious detail I remember is that one of those oversized cardboard display boxes was produced, and recently a copy turned up in the hands of a fellow Saturn enthusiast to confirm I wasn't imagining this. The reason you probably didn't hear anything about this from Bizarre Creations is because they weren't responsible for the Saturn version, but rather Probe Entertainment - the same team that had also been working on bringing Destruction Derby 2 to the same platform around the same time, which is ironic when you consider neither of these games were ultimately released. Someone tracked down one of the former programmers a few years back, and they revealed that despite the beginnings of an advertising campaign being put out, the team was still only at a basic wireframe point in development when they met the first of several devastating roadblocks... First of all, Psygnosis were limited to a small window of licensing from the sport's governing body, FOCA, who insisted that any product featuring actual driver names, liveries and courses be available no later than a year after the end of the 1995 season. By the time Probe's efforts were scheduled for completion, this period would have long since expired, though rather than abandon their work, Sega was able to step in as the game's new publisher and help exploit the same loophole that had allowed F-1 Challenge to be issued with its PAL version featuring updated statistics when compared with the Japanese original, F-1 Live Information, released several months previously. Despite later claiming to have first learned of Bizarre's racing pedigree after an executive was impressed by the sight of F1 '97 for the PS running on the Sony booth at ECTS, Sega was introduced to the company as a result of their efforts in getting this game out instead. Supposedly, prior to "Metropolis" being announced as one of the major early Dreamcast titles, Bizarre had been working on a driving simulator intended for the Saturn, with one source claiming this was based on the same concept Traveller's Tales had shown to Sega until they ordered the technology be used to power a new Sonic game instead, resulting in their once realistic project being quickly reworked into Sonic R. Anyway, the final, most damaging blow to F1 and DD2 as well came when Psygnosis cancelled all future support for the Saturn, citing poor sales for what they considered major software like WipEout 2097, which didn't even make it to the US market. On a similar note, this decision also led to Assault Rigs only appearing in Japan, suggesting they weren't prepared to issue localised versions of games that had already been completed. From what I've been told, Psygnosis had even been looking into launching Wip3out simultaneously on both the PS and Saturn. By the time their heavily delayed end product was ready, the Saturn had been officially discontinued in Europe for just over a year. In other words, the Saturn conversion was in development at Probe and would have been promoted using the same artwork as the original F1, but with all the seasonal upgrades of F1 '97, only lacking the gameplay improvements of its sequel. I'm not sure how Psygnosis and Sega would have tackled the various controversies surrounding the '97 version, as the PS edition of was temporarily pulled from shelves not long after its release due to the FIA objecting to their logo being featured on the box, not mention that Murray Walker had to call Jacques Villeneuve something else in the commentary due to him trademarking his own name and likeliness around this period. As a way of bypassing this legal problem, it was possible to restore all text references to Villeneuve by using the edit function, and it's even claimed that Bizarre included this just so they could satisfy players who demanded real drivers in what had been marketed as a fully licensed title. Actually, Sega would later suggest to Silicon Dreams that they exploit this same method in World League Soccer '98, with genuine teams and players available through entering a cheat code once described in the official Sega Saturn Magazine as being something of a legal grey area that could have major repercussions for them just to print, although they still did in the end.
Great details, but I wanted to note that WipEout 2097 was released in the US, but it was renamed WipEout XL. The soundtrack even got a US release as well, with the only difference being the title. Of course, if you were talking about 2097 for the Saturn, then I'll respectfully bow my head and shut up. Oh, as for my holy grails, they're probably Dee Dee Planet (I wanna play this so bad, as well as rip the music files!), early versions of Duke Nukem Forever (the released game is crap, but I'm betting the earlier betas before the complete redesign are... also crap, but interesting crap at the least), and earlier betas of Portals 1 and 2, especially Portal 2 with the alternate intros, rooms and the temp voice work.
For me, a Sonic 1 prototype would be amazing to have. I want the 1990 Tokyo Toy Show demo with the early Green Hill and 7 layers of parallax scrolling. I would have said Sonic X-treme, but that's found now, so yeah.
One of the rare items i have for my sega saturn is the Magic card Its like the goldfinger that was on the psx1 but for the saturn its in the same shape as the 4in1 pro action reply but all black.
Anything having to do with early Tomb Raider The Angel Of Darkness, builds exist but haven't leaked. Same with Core Designs Tomb Raider Anniversary, build exists hasn't leaked.
Some more for the list: Any tools, docs or info related to Oblivion, Fallout 3, Fallout New Vegas or Skyrim that aren't publicly available (especially the art tools which seems to be the main thing Bethesda doesn't want to release for some reason). Source code would be great to have also obviously Any stuff at all connected to the NES and SNES Mario titles (prototypes, game data, code etc, not screenshots or the like though) Any of the missing or undumped ROMs pertaining to Suzuka 8 Hours & Suzuka 8 Hours 2 (including undumped revisions and any chips containing as-yet-undumped embedded code). Oh and anything else that can make the emulation of this game better. Oh and let me nominate the source code to the proprietary sound blobs on my Nokia N900 phone as my #1 top holy grail right now...
My short list would be anything from pokemon gen 1, and 2 Zelda 64, or Ura Dinosaur Planet Black & White Creatures the DS/ PSP anything unreleased from the MediEvil franchise and, Sonic Extreme (this is may be soon)
Marvel vs Capcom 3 E3 2010 build Probably considered more rare and obscure but still unreleased as it contained many system mechanics which were later changed. This version and any other builds using the same mechanics are an entirely different game all together to the MvC3 that we got on release.
Any assets from the below beyond the scraps gathered already:- Castlevania The Bloodletting for the 32x Castlevania Resurrection for Dreamcast Earthworm Jim PSP Tekken X Street Fighter early builds of Duke Nukem Forever- there was a trailer released a long time ago that showed an incredibly fun looking game, I remember it had usable riot shields content that was cut from Mortal Kombat Special Forces - i.e playable Sonya Shenmue when it was still Virtua Fighter RPG Halo 1 when it was PC exclusive, I remember it was in development for ages before it switched to XBOX, kept abrest of it in PCZone Stargate Online/ The Alliance Star Trek Secret of Vulcan Fury (still have my Starfleet Academy disc sleeve with an ad for it in) BC for XBOX1 Warhammer online before it got picked up by Climax Babylon 5: Into The Fire Metroid Dread for the DS
My list is more odd then most I am sure haha I really like Minecraft's development history so there will be a few builds here... Sonic Adventure Beta (Before the Auto Demo aka with more of the areas that were seen in the beta like Windy Valley actually textured [and that sexy tornado], the weird Big, Tails, and Amy areas, Sky Dragon Boss and other notable nuances) Harry Potter and the Scorers Stone (PC Version, E3 2001 Demo with the slower exploration based gameplay, Astrology Tower, and the Privet Drive level.) Sonic The Hedgehog 1 (CES 1991 demo) Half Life 2 (Early Story line [Darker] or at least more info on said plot and maps) Minecraft (Alpha 1.2.0 (The first Halloween Update Update [Ghast screamed randomly and mobs spawned constantly])) Minecraft (Infdev Test [Brick Pyramids and obsidian paths] Minecraft (Secret Friday Update 2 [Infdev] (First appearance of Dungeons and glitchy and odd because of the lack of support) Minecraft (Indev Gears update) End note, I do know that Minecraft has free alpha and classic builds in the launcher but those specific builds that I mentioned are missing. But I would practically do anything to get a hold of an earlier Sonic Adventure build (Pre-August 22 1998) and that Harry Potter E3 build should be somewhere.. KnowWonder still exists I believe unless they shut down. Have high hopes eventually
