For the last 2 years I've been using an E61, with Wi-Fi it was great, I could play browser games on campus for free. Anyway, I've moved to the E63 for close to nothing. I like the business phones from nokia. Although I'd love to have an Iphone (all those console titles I'd like to play on it)
^ Samsung a137. It's incredibly basic, but it's durable and it has a long battery life. That's all I really care about. It would be better with a camera, flash storage, and a better screen, though.
So true, but at least I am free from having to use the most terrible sync/itunes.. i really don't miss my 3G. If I would have direct access to the storage as an external HDD on my iphone (not only for pictures, but all but to drag and drop my mp3s/jpgs/avi's), also support for emulators/divx etc and the ability to customize my desktop I would go back to Apple in a heartbeat.. but reality is this will never happen or one day introduced as a revolutionairy new feature in the iphone 6,7 & 8. For now I am sticking to my terrible battery & "crappy build" android (desire) allthough I should of bought the nexus one purely for the fast updating. HTC already announced that the new firmware/software 3.0/sense.com etc will only be released on their new Desire HD and not on the original desire which pisses me off. SonyEricsson is even worse, still stuck on old 1.6 with maybe an update end of this month to 2.1.
That's another issue too, like Linux it has splintered off there are too many versions. Not only is it brand dependent but also carrier dependent. It needs to be a bit more unified. Can't say I've ever needed needed to use my phone as harddrive as any documents are stored in the cloud so to speak. iTunes yeh is bitch but there is other programmes you can you use on xp. I use a mac so iTunes isn't too bad. Customised desktops can be fixed on a jail broke iPhone. Sadly mine was too new to break.
Agreed, sadly this is true. movies? music? roms? in a cloud? data = ouch. Most of them are shyt too. Jailbreaking is nice but not an option, I want to keep my stuff original & with warrenty & enjoy new features presented in future firmware updates without worry about it messing with the jailbreak. My objective was to have a phone which would do everything I want on stock roms without having to hack it.
Blackberry here, would get the Torch if it didnt suck. Might get a Motorola Defy depending on how abussive tmob's plans will be
Romz? Nope Music few bits on there but most was bought and downloaded on to the iPhone. I tend to have OoTunes radio on. Documents are stored on the respective sites eg job sites. Data isn't really an issue as I still haven't got near my limit of 1gb even after my contract end and goes back to 500mb I rarely if at all break that. With 02 it get free open zone and the cloud wifi. My phone is set to latch on if there is a network nearby. Jail breaking doesn't mess your warranty if it's got to go back reset it. You would normally do it anyway. Some of the hacks they have done to the docks and screens just look amazing. Just wish I could down grade my firmware.
That's probably why Google wants to get rid of custom UIs like Sense and whatever Samsung's one was called. I just wonder if they're planning on using the regular Android UI for everything, because it's ugly, clunky and has a general "designed by engineers" feel to it. And I have to agree about battery life, the Desire can last maybe two days without a charge. Other than that, wouldn't swap it for an iPhone.
I use a N-Gage. The first model. There very hardwearing and are good for gaming on the go (Not all games on it were shit) it also has all phone functionality.
My mates Samsung Galaxy S barely lasts a day and its not that old how gash is it going to be in 12 months? Also on the splintered natural of Android you cant really compare Android Vs Iphone. Its more Like Desire Vs Hero Vs Galaxy S Vs Iphone.
Haters gonna hate, but the N-Gage is/was a great phone! If mine didn't die I would still use it to this day, I loved my N-Gage! (also first model, non-QD)
Yeah...I've taken off almost all the widgets HTC decides to put on there by default, and also turn off mobile network/Wi-Fi and the battery can last two days. I'm sure it'd be drained in a day if all of that stuff was on. And I thought I was comparing a specific Android phone (the Desire) to the iPhone. I had an N-Gage too (obviously got it after the price dropped like 75%, which happened a few months after launch) , it was an okay phone for its time, but wouldn't call it "great". The whole sidetalkin' thing wasn't really true though, you could hear the phone just fine if you held it like normal. My main complaints were the awful controls for gaming and the HUGE size of the phone.
I use BatDroid and set it to kick in at a certain % of battery life remaining and it does help a little but to be honest i'm either going to get a bigger replacement battery for my G1 (with those bigger backs) and keep the stock one with me charged to 100% as a backup in case i ever need or swap phones again if i can find a decent replacement for the G1 which i'm not sure i will.
hmmmmmm... let's see.. then came: then came: then came: then came: then came: and now im using samsung wave, which is ironic considering i work at nokia oh well, i can make calls with it and that's about all i ever use phone for. i loved my n-gage to death though, it was so cool when it came back in the day, and after ditching the god horrible series60 OS from it and replacing it with a NES emulator, it serves it's purpose i think i still have the prototype sitting somewhere. i also keep a pile of various things stashed away, such as 9110 communicator, 9210/9210i communicators and couple 9300(i)'s which is used for a little while. the 9110 i kept since runs on DOS. How awesome is that
iPhone 4 (16 GB version) - quite possibly the greatest gadget I've ever owned. It's everything I wished my Palm PDA could have been back in the day.
People have already been doing that (or at least trying to) by themselves for some time - Personally I don't know a single Android user that hasn't rooted their phone and installed CyanogenMod or whatever. I think Google is basically just throwing its voice in there to try to keep vendors from including more and more lock down hardware crap to keep the users out. I've never had any issues ith the UI (but then again I'm an engineer myself), apart from maybe the crappy time input widget... Me not having used Sense etc - Does it do much more than drawing that shortcut/dial/quick-access bar at the bottom of the home screen? If not: You can always replace the "Launcher" app by one you like better, even with Sense ripped from another ROM. Re: Android & Battery - Could definitely be better, yeah. I blame the (imo) overpowered CPUs (I have an embedded system I use as a webserver that's got less CPU power and RAM than my phone!). But once I disable wifi etc, turn down the brightness a little, and tune a few other things, I can get about three to four days out of my G1, which is more than enough for me.
