I havn't rooted my Desire, I don't see any big improvement in doing so since 2.2 came out and we can install apps to sd. Still didn't run in to any issue that would make me want to root and I am an engineer :/ especially UI because even with sense and unrooted I am free to install another launcher anyway. Now back in the days with WinMo5/6/6.5 the first thing I would do is use a custom rom, but android 2.2 stock rom is just fine for me for now. Would you be able to tell me the big advantage to root by Desire?
Well that desire is already rooted  when you sober up you will notice it was actually about mobile phones
If you light that one up you will end up with a THC Wildfire :033: Sounds like you are missing Holland a lot
You have no idea. I fell in love with Holland and not just for the weed, I mean the whole place rocks, even the people are awesome  by the way, back on topic, how often do you find yourself needing to recharge your Desire?
Probably as much as you feel the desire to light one up  On a serious note: GPS: pff couple of hours? Heavy usage: 10-18 hours. Medium: 18-30 hours Low: 30-48 hours MAX Basically it sucks, but depending on how active you are activating and deactivating stuff like Wireless/Data/BT/GPS/live wallpapers and background running apps that use one of the above you are pretty safe surviving the day, otherwise forget about it! But I guess most/all smartphones with the above (especially with GPS on) have a short battery life.
yes, same holds true for my N900 as well. Although the latest firmware greatly improved battery life I charge it once a day or a couple of days with moderate internet usage. Also, turn off the 3G if you don't use it, it DRAINS juice.
Damnit guys Since you already got 2.2, not many atm, apart maybe from proper backups (application settings etc that aren't saved to SD or the cloud - see Titanium Backup). But let's talk again a few months down the line, when they've stopped releasing updates despite the hardware being capable enough... They have to get ppl to buy new phones after all. Re: disabling 3G - I'd be careful about that. I did it and everything seemed to work fine, I could call out, send messages etc - but incoming calls/msgs didn't get through at all! I'd only get a missed call notification on restarts, changing radio cells etc. (basically only when the phone itself reached out to contact the net). So double check that everything works as expected!
I don't care about backups except for telephone numbers. But yes, as soon as cool stuff is being released for newer models and they forget about the desire I will be rooting the basterd! :033:
Another Desire owner here, the newer one with the SLCD screen, so it works outside! Downside is, the carrier that released it in Canada hasn't rolled out Froyo yet, but it should be here in a week or 2.
I haven't rooted my phone, and I bet a lot of people haven't either. Normal people ARE beginning to use Android too, you know. Mostly it's just about having better widgets than the stock Android ones, which are horrible in every way compared to HTCs, as well as making the menus and stuff look a little nicer. Of course you can put in a different ROM, I remember someone had ripped the Desire ROM so you could put it on the Nexus One, but let's face it, most people aren't going to do that stuff, so it's important for HTC & co. to have a nice interface on top of ugly regular Android. 2 days max if I actually do something with it. I could easily squeeze out like 4 days of usage from my old Hero, but then again, it wasn't as pleasant to use as the Desire so I browsed the web and stuff way less often. I think they've already started to do that with the Desire HD, which IMO doesn't have anything new & special over the regular Desire, but has a new version of Sense with some new feature, which I doubt will be released on the older phone...
Another thing thats gets on my wick about Roid users... They bitch that the Iphone 4 doesn't have 4g - like it matters? 4g is only available in USA Japan and Norway(There is more but its only in small areas). And even then it can be hit and miss. Come back when 4 is actually finalised and been rolled out in more then a few country's.
someone has to drive the demand for 4G, and some phones are this exact vessel. To say that phones shouldnt have this feature before it's mass market is to put the carriage in front of the horse.
All well and good but for the most part your paying for tech which aleast in most countries useless until atleast end of next year. Prob more so for uk and most of Europe.
Barc0de's right, though. Hardware support in devices needs to be out there before the rollout makes any financial sense.
4G speeds are so fucking kick ass. I got my HD2 and I'm running the Desire HD android beta on it. SO awesome compared to the clunky and barely optimized stock WinMo Rom.
Same here except I'm running the Desire froyostone sense rom. Its amazing how much better it runs then the stock win 6.5 rom. And the android software devopment is just fantastic right now. Theres been alot of talk about HD 2 nand android development, meaning instead of booting android off the sd card it boots right when the phone is started. Until the next version of android comes out I'm going to stick with what I have, why mess with something that works?
Hello All, just got the Motorola Backflip from AT&T since it was only $50 with 2 year plan. ( I know, shitty company, but what telephone company isnt?) ((Dont answer that)) Anyway, I bought it cuz it had a good list of features, I need a keyboard cuz just touchscreen is about as vomit inducing as someone vomitting on my face, but yeah. Anyway, checked up the reviews after buying it on a lot of websites, and people are bashing hardXcore on this piece and frankly I am having trouble seeing why...? Its got a 5MP Cam, Android 1.5 I believe?, and it is pretty responsive so far, touchscreen is also pretty nice I will admit. Youtube works great, love the auto wifi connect, Good browser. It has a not so good battery life, but that is to be expected (Honestly, do better batteries not exist? They need to get on the ball with batts) Anyway, things I dont like. - Forced use of Gmail? Why? - Battery - Design (it should have been the frontflip and closed forward to protect the screen and keyboard, but oh well. It is cool to point the camera either forward or backward) Can any owners of the Backflip give me reasons on why I should return it before the 30 day limit is up? Personally, I think it is great so far personally, but I have had phones that take around a months of use before I realized how suckered I was. Side note: Best phone I ever had was the Nokia E61i. Very good for its time.
