Computer Scientist (in training)... I've got two semesters left after this one (woo hoo!). More than likely I'll be doing grad school a year or two after I graduate. This is the first semester I've had a 'job' while being in school, and I technically have two jobs. I'm an exec board member on my school's Student Activity Board, and I'm doing some "freelance" programming for a company here in town.

Is easy to be proud when ignorance is around.

While I respect the ancient greeks, theres little in common with the modern ones beyond the name. After all, since the fall of the roman empire greece has been under ottoman rule, and everything from intelligentsia to the technology that made the ancient greeks great moved to western europe.

Then theres the chinese: Sure theres some stuff that remains the same between the old empire and the communist rule, like the almost nonexistant respect for human life (lets no even talk about animals or the enviroment). First, they arent that old: china as we know it is a unified state made little more than 2000 years ago. Many historic information from those times was lost in the consecutive dynasties, and theres lots of data that had been revealed just some years ago, like the terracotta army.

Egypt is also called like the empire of old, but beyond the pyramids theres little in common between the ancient one and the new one.

Barc0de: try the viking age. And whether you like wikipedia or not. Then wikipedia is a good resource when it comes to that period.

No, we had a pretty strong culture 4000 years ago. We traded with, and had pretty similar luxury items as, Egypt at that time.

And I dare say we haven't been occupied by a foreign power (with the exception of a brief not-so-foreign Danish dominance) since then, like Greece, so the cultural connections are strong. Language for example, have been modified, but not replaced. I would definitively be able to speak with a Swede 500 years back in time.

You seem to know what you're talking about. Perhaps you could comment on a rumour I heard: That the civilization from which chinese culture descends, the people were named "(the) horsemen", because they brought horses. And, as we all know, horses comes from Europe.

Christer-swe: Isn´t our history ecxiting ? And well, I think I would maybe have a little difficulties speaking with a Dane 500 years back in time, but then again. I think I would be able to speak with him. Anyway, why the Swedes calls the Scanians for "half Danes" is because the Scanians are of the tribe of Danes. And there has been a bloodbath in historic times about the Scanians being "too Danish". Now adays it is mixture between local racism, and teasing. But historical speaking.... damn there has been a lot of fucky stuff going on.

Christer-swe: does the name Svend Poulsen ring a bell ? or should I say Svend Gønge instead ?

But what I have in my backhand will only be used, if I am forced out into a Scandinavian internetforum flamewar.

Mostly it's because many people can't understand them, and they simply don't care.

No, sorry mate, never heard of.

Christer-swe: anyway here goes the Swedish link for you then about Svend Poulsen :)

he was one of the people you call in Swedish.... Snaphaner.

And to those who wants to see the Scania flag, then it looks like this.

And to all others who didn´t understand a hooch, then we were communicating without using a third language. Or at least I did. Since I understand Swedish without even thinking about the language, and well Norwegian, Swedish, and Danish is very similar to eachother. Or at least I feel it is. And Faroese is similar to Icelandic, but I don´t understand either language that much of the two . is there even a word called intercommunication ? since I believe that is what I did. But anyway that was my thought.

Christer-swe: did I pass my Swedish understanding with flying colours ? :)
And yes I do know what the word "konstigt" means. It means odd, weird, peculiar etc. And the same goes for the some of the words, which can be a trap in the Danish and Swedish translations. But I do know the words, and the meaning of them. So no worries about that, ta det lugnt :) och bra det :)

(excuse me for my fucked up Swedish grammar, I am not a master in writing Swedish. But I do understand it)

Greek blood is pretty well diluted with Turkish/Ottoman/Persian blood I do believe (as well as the Venetian and Romans)!

I would imagine that he is talking more like the Avalon Hill games or possibly Warhammer style games.
