 I forgot one thing that rocks about the xbox. CONKER!! It's sad that it's still far more visualy impressive then any wii title released so far. :-( Due to the nature of the Wii, I really dout more then 5% of software will really push the unit hard (nintendo lost most of the 3rd party studio who were good at pushing the n64 & gamecube to the metal)
GET OUT OF MY BRAIN!! Everything about this post regarding Nintendo/GCN applies to me pretty much. The bolded quote especially, though I was a bit more optimistic.... Imagine what could have been! h: Also, DC IS in a league of its own... Technically, it was killed, but manages to live on in its own little subset. I have never witnessed a console with so much staying power and dedication. Holy shit, just die already!
This is a kind of tough choice. I've played tons of Xbox last gen, but I still play a lot of PS2 as well. I'm with everyone else on the GCN, there weren't enough games on it that looked appealing to me. There are a few old titles I want to get, but I doubt my GCN collection would be more than 35 or 40 games. I have the most PS2 games, but to be honest, I haven't played a lot of them. That may be getting worse since I need to work. I have had a lot of Xbox FPSs that I really liked (TSFP included) but as a lot of other things, I got tired of it after playing it a lot. Also, contrary to some of my posts, I actually couldn't finish hard mode on SOTC after playing it a lot of times. It just got old after playing through it 3 or so times (normal time attack included in that). I also played Halo 1 and 2 to DEATH. Same for Morrowind on the Xbox. Though I think I'd like that game more on the PC, due to the frequent lagging and damn long load times. I DO own a DC but I only have two games for it, and one of them is a shitty PC port, iirc. And the other is an Arcade or Neo Geo port, I think.
I voted for DC although I don't see it as any concurrence for GC and Xbox. It was just the console I had the most fun with... followed by PS2 and after that, Xbox. The GC was just... well, it has nice-looking boxes in Japan, its a "cute" console and stuff, but there weren't ANY games I really liked and that weren't available on other consoles. I haven't got all the must-haves for the platform, but I have no will to get them either which differs it from the PS2s or DCs so called "must-haves"...
my opinion for what it's worth: Playstation 2 - I had one, sold it really quickly, couldn't find any franchise I was interested in so it wasn't for me. To this day - I still don't have one and for me I don't see the point (that's just me of course). Gamecube - I got into it too late into it's life, I'd already been well into the Dreamcast, so it's a great machine but I've not managed to give it the love it deserves. XBOX - I really liked the XBOX 1, it had a really strong lineup of games that I like and I purchased lots, but it was sooooo easy to mod and turn into a really useful little machine. Dreamcast - I just think that the Dreamcast is a pure gamers machine, it's not trying to be a lifestyle machine, it didn't have pretenses to play your media for you. It innovated, had a fantastic wealth and variety of games developed by eastern and western developers and was technically superb. I played and loved every single Dreamcast game I have - I've not done that on any other machine. Sega at their very best.
I would argue that the PS2 has games that compare very well to anything on the GC. PS2/GC/XBox are all in the same generation. The DC is somewhere between those and 32bit. Edit: Also the GC was a wasted opportunity. Hopefully the Wii won't repeat the same mistakes.
Xbox for me, I really liked that system, but it's hard to pick between it and Dreamcast. Gamecube didn't have much but what it did have was killer. PS2 I liked DMC. Damn, hard choice!
Mottzilla, that's unfair you can get a laptop to do the same thing and have its own screen at the same time
Yeah but the laptop won't play Xbox games or output 720p to the hdtv! (dunno bout the last part, prolly could but you know) =p
it will output anything you want to an HDTV over VGA as long as your monitor/HDTV supports it. VGA to component convertors are also available. HDMI or DVI on a laptop may be possible, but i ve never come accross it. Yet, for the reasons that Mott presented, a laptop is a better pick. XBOX games wasn't on his list of 'positive features'
Oops, thats right, laptops have VGA on them. I feel even dumber since I'm using a laptop right now! Btw, off topic, but has there been any PSX or N64 emulation for Xbox? I just thought about emulating PSX or DC games on my laptop over VGA since hooking up the systems to my HDTV makes them look terrible!
I can't see why it would look terrible on your HD set, but yes, there's a good n64 emu on xbox i think.
