I have a cheapo HDTV and over s video and composite, older systems just look plain bad. Really blurry and washed out. I tried to play Parasite Eve the other day and it was just ugly, I'm gunna try emulation over the my laptop for those systems, thanks for the idea! I didn't even think of that. Another idea is picking up a cheap 20" TV or something. Ok, I'm done being off topic now!
I voted for PS2, because of the amount of games for the system. The first console from this generation I bought was GC, with Rogue Leader, REmake and Mario Sunshine (I really like this game, perhaps more than Mario 64), but lost interest quickly. Got my DC from a friend with 10 games for 40€ when it was already dead but I enjoyed Shenmue and MSR. I bought PS2 a year after GC and the Xbox with the release of NG. Both have great games, but I'm more a Sony player because of the lack of RPG on the Xbox, and some PS2's exclusives like MGS3, God of War or the ICO team games (and the Ratchet saga).
Except that PC LCDs have shite upscalars most of the time - they look great at native res, but plug anything else in and it looks like a turd.
Yeah I was thinking the same, but I had to admit that the PS2 got some major software tweaks and tricks that push the hardware to the limit, while some programmers said both the Xbox and DC didnt get that kind of treatment. Dunno, on the other hand the N64 was always between the 32 and 128 gens for me, and not for the 64bits... Word
It has to be Gamecube although i would love to have said dreamcast but since i never actually owned one i can't vote for it. I had my GC for about a year and half now and its probably given me more fun in that short time than my ps2 has since the day i bought it which was a year after launch, My xbox is great too but i would even say i would play ps1 more then ps2 if i still had my old playstation
Really tough choice for me. I mean, I obtained PSO for DC back in '01 and played that religiously, but I also have SOCOM I-II-III which I play with my younger brother while I'm away at college, and plus, I've been playing SOCOM II since it came out, as I can recall getting it on launch week. So these games are what made the choices for me. Yes, PSO was on Xbox and Gamecube, but it wasn't the original that brought me hours of enjoyment. In the end, the Dreamcast comes out victorious.
sweet irony. The DC got 'put to sleep' by SEGA in fear of the competition from PS2 , XBOX and GC, and here it is dancing on their grave although it 'died' long before them. Is DC the Jesus of video games? you decide
Who would thought that back in the day? I remember getting REALLY pissed at SEGA from droping a console again. Only god (just an expression) knows what could've happen if the DC went head to head with the PS2. Are guys sure the DC couldnt run Counter Strike properly? cuz if it did, a CS box for $149-$99 was a helluva good deal, and I doubt the PS2 could do a lot against that with just GTA3.
I agree with the DC, that wasn't given much of a chance for developers to really push the hardware; not so for the XBox though. You don't see the kind of change from first generation software to final because the hardware in the XBox was already well known and documented and there wasn't as much room to explore. The N64 was 32bit generation. The Z-buffer was its only real advantage IMO.
The whole CS topic was discussed long ago and some thought that since the HL DC port didnt run smoothly a CS port wouldnt be possible...
Ahh, I see. That would have been pretty cool back then, hehe. It seemed to me like the HL DC port ran pretty nice...
No doubt, CS is still the most played game online, far more than WoW. Just imagine what it could've done to the DC and Seganet.
No doubt, but on the other hand, apart from titles like FIFA in europe, where was the strength of EA at the time? the Sim games? C&C? Madden? On the last one, NFL 2k was waaaay better. I think the DC went straight to hell when codemasters decided to jump off the wagon...
I had to vote for DC as it is the system that got me back into gaming really, there is just so many fun games for it. I couldn't choose PS2 because I have never played on one! Xbox, i bought one once & didn't like it, so I took that back. Gamecube came a close 2nd for me, I have some nice titles for the cube!
