Well shit, I only gave in and got one recently, too many interesting exclusives to not own one really. But to not even have played one is pretty good going. Yakumo'd be proud
I got mine for free because it was busted and I fixed it and the dude let me keep it, otherwise I wouldn't have got one. It was cool to play DMC though, and Contra SS. I mostly play PS1 on it.
Non of my friends are really into gaming, and the few that are have either Nintendo consoles or Xbox. Its not dedication, I never went out of my way to not play on a PS2, the chance just never came yet!?
PS2 > DC > GC -> XB PS2: Just so many quality titles in *every* genre. And I also include PS1 titles since they run on the PS2. Lots of peripheral controllers available so I can get my DDR and Beatmania fix. DC: not as many titles, but the quality/quantity ratio of DC games is second to none. It's the console for 2D shooter fans, like the PC Engine was before emulaming came about. GC: It never reached the amount of quality titles the SFC had, but it has some 10-20 must-have titles I think. XB: XBox is console gaming implemented wrong. It "features" PC-like framerate inconsistencies, downloadable content without physical media or right to transfer what you bought, very little support from Japanese developers making the lineup seem like an EA catalog, online gaming with trash talking American teens, upscaling to 720p scamming. Ugh, no thanks.
He's not the only one  I've never played on one either. Just not bothered. I have far too many games on other consoles to play. The thing is that the PS2 has no appeal to me. Recently I've been getting in to the PC Engine scene just because of the appeal it has. I know sweet F.A. about the system and games but there was something that said "Go on, give it a spin" Yakumo
I mainly got a PS2 for burnout 3 and sequels. It's great multiplayer fun. I only got it because I barely paid nothing for it. I think the memory card might have cost me more than the console. However I too just got a PAL TG16, probably should have got a PC Engine with power & video convertor instead as only the japanese games seem to be common. I've not seen a hucard convertor around yet. smf
If you're a genuine shmup fan, you can't not have a PS2. There are just too many A-list system exclusives, not to mention loads of decent, low-cost re-releases. In honesty, I can't really understand any gamer saying that the PS2 has no appeal to them, because the PS2 has quality games in every genre, and a huge number of games you can't get anywhere else. I begrudgingly bought mine, I don't like the vast majority of games on the system (especially system-seller series like Devil May Cry, GTA, Metal Gear Solid etc), but the sheer volume of games these days means that there has to be something there for you. To say otherwise is to venture dangerously far into blinkered fanboy territory in my opinion. No offense meant to anyone. I'm with you on all your other points, but this is absurd. The PS2 is far worse for low framerates as a general rule.
Xbox had some great games that a lot of people haven't even heard of, ya just had to look, sort of like with Gamecube.
Hey no prob, to be honest I HAD a PS2: back in 2001 I was so pissed at SEGA (and gaming in general) for the death of the DC that my parents bought me a PS2 to try cheer me up. The thing is, the PS2 just crapped out of the box! it didnt work at all! We got our money back of course, but it kinda set a precedent, and I didnt considered the PS2 for a long time: in fall 2004 I was planning to get one (the old fat one) with a NA to use HDloader (cuz I had played the thing and loading times were awful) but then came college, lots of things to do and before I knew it the fat PS2 was gone and the only one available was that crappy slim one, that BTW crapped due to overheating. So I said "fuck it! I'm not that interested..." and I'm still like that... I may get one for those exclusive games like GoW, SofC and Bully, but when the console reachs the $50 price point...
If you'd rather spend that money on some Saturn/DC/PC-Engine shmups you can live without. I assure you. ;-) My shmupping needs are more than fulfilled.
I had to pick the Dreamcast. Its one of the system I keep hooked up most of the time (Playing through Jet Set Radio again this week!)
I never beat that or the sequel, there so hard! And if you set it down for awhile I forgot what to do next!
Word, that game was too hard, like the difficulty curve goes from 0 to 100 after just a couple levels...
I picked GCN. Simply put, I didn't buy a Dreamcast until fairly late on and most of the best games made it onto Gamecube. The Xbox is a bit too full of repetitive FPSes. Finally, the PS2 is (still to this day) overpriced for the console's graphical prowess and appalling controller - I've never liked the thumbstick placement, has far too many really uninspiring games for it, and I still don't own one (I did buy a broken one once, but broke it further when I snapped a cable holder off - and then promptly sold it off for 3 times the price).
PS2 + Gradius V in price = Hyper Duel or Radiant Silvergun in price Hyper Duel or Radiant Silvergun >>>> PS2 + Gradius V
