@artillery but that's different though! Admittedly i am a huge fan of ONLY the Super Famicom but it doesn't mean i can shit on the games, like how some fanboys say they "love" that system then yet shits on the games exclusive for it. But if my avatar is too demeaning from my said post I'll be glad to change it to that of a MS-DOS logo or a pic of the system itself.
^^ ironic value, i get it! :smile-new: my position is VERY clear: i go for the superior version, regardless of platform. it's just not under debate! (why would i play 'x' game on a MD if that same relz is 'cleaner/optimised' for snes...vice-versa?) pick that apart if you can?! if i want all the range, have to get all the machines, don't have issue with that. (cross-platform would've been ideal, but we don't live in should-land!) [edit] typo.
And by Superior you mean MS-DOS right? You've finally saw the light at the end of the "snes" tunnel lol ;-) Hell, if the Sega Genesis had a sorta color depth adapter for the system built in the model 2 system and made a add-on of it for those who own a model 1 machine, the genesis will kick the SNES outta to the ocean where it belongs
NOPE! :smile-new: wouldn't piss on m$-DOSser if it was on fire. i'll stick with CBM/ppc, thanks! :witless:
^^ :witless: it was mushrooms that influenced my decision to like sega/nintendo. CBM had the goods already, i gave it shrooms to let me play on it. and what's a dreamcast? :witless: [edit] sarcasm if the witless smileys didn't already indicate that. :wink-new:
They sure were on shrooms when they made it! jk On a site somewhere I read a defense of the 32X and how it had an undeserved infamy. They alleged that it would've succeeded had Sega not released the Saturn shortly after. I suppose it could be true seeing as it sold 665,000.
The 32X was made by Sega of America, while the Saturn was made by Japan. They were both released in November 1994 so even if it was successful, the Saturn would be out at the exact same time. Given the tension between the American and Japanese branch, no way would Japan have delayed the Saturn because of the Americans' project.
Are you sure the 32X would've been successful? true it could've gave an innovation of how one 16bit console survived the 32/64 bit era whilst Nintendo moved on to a brand new system at the time & SEGA doing something a little different or splitting the market as like making the Sega Saturn Exclusive to the Japanese Market & as for the American Market, make the Sega 32X + CD combo exclusive for them, while porting many of the Saturn games like Nights into Dreams, Sonic R, Panzer Dragoon & many of their Sega Ages to it.
Did not claim at all that I was sure. Just promoting a different perspective I saw somewhere. I don't know much about Sega consoles. Sega seemed to fuck up having two sectors of itself competing.
Well nintendo much like apple has this kind of insane fanboys that dont take any criticism, specially from inside the community, so no one says anything to avoid a shitstorm of epic proportions.
True for the most part, as rivaling each other for no reason is what brought the entire company down. I'd wonder why they fought against each other instead of helping out?
Could be xenophobia and scorn from the Japanese side. There is a problem with Japan and xenophobia, not to say they are racist. I read the experiences of western developers working on Sonic 2. According to them they felt like the Japanese employees working with them were treated favorably. One example is lots of the levels designed by the Americans were axed. Then there's Sonic Xtreme getting in hot water because they wanted to use Nights' code, but Naka threw a fit. The Japanese representatives were inconsiderate, and one person ended up in the hospital after working his ass off.
i hate to say but Yuji Naka was an complete asshole for that move so, instead of helping out the americans with Sonic Xtreme development he goes and not give out the source code to his engine which Could've progressed further if he'd weren't thinking highly of himself or joining in with the hate of their OWN department headquarters!
I think that the game would've been released had they been allowed the code. They spent far too much time trying to code it from scratch and ran out of resources. of course the Japanese HQ wanted nothing to do with SOA after they refused to drop the 32X so they refused to help whenever possible, and shot themselves in the foot regarding an exclusive Saturn Sonic platformer. Without that the Saturn suffered in the US and eventually pulled out early. Having a whole host of different consoles on the market at once made Sega suffer as well (like whats going on with Nintendo right now). Eventually Sega Japan got tired of the tail wagging the dog and inserted Sega Japan employees into SOA. alot of SOA veterans left after the debacle (including Founder David Rosen). Most important decisions were transferred to the Japanese division and SOA got turned into a glorified localization division.
Supposedly SOA thought the Saturn was over a year away (putting its launch as around the N64, maybe later), so they made the 32X as a stopgap. The Saturn was released a day after the 32X's launch (in Japan, it didn't come stateside for another 6 months). Had it had longer to stay on the shelves, sure, it would have been great. I honestly like it better than the CD, even though the CD came out in 92 I think.
