If that's supposed to be a full size slot-loading drive on the front, then it's about the width/height of an original PS3. Unless Nintendo are going for proprietary media again; maybe 8cm mini Blu Ray discs? Without doubt that image is a mock-up. Question is, does it accurately represent the final(ish) design of the new Nintendo console?
Fun facts before you guys start leaking my information to other sites; It currently has; Onboard speakers & headset plug. (48kHz Stereo Audio) Dual Analog Pads, Directional Pad, 8buttons. And a horribly large screen with low resolution.
Well it's official now, they are going to show a working version at E3, guess the guys at Sony and MS are preparing mockups of their prototypes to counter it. Anyways, those pictures look weird, why the oversized nintendo logo?
The photos are fake (the ones on the desk). With other prototypes, Sony won't show anything. They won't want to distract from the NGP. Microsoft might feasibly show something, but it would have to be graphically impressive. The interesting thing is Nintendo have announced their intentions early, giving MS a chance to work on a good show reel etc.
The first PS3 prototype was just a case, but anyways they may wait a while and show something latter this year. On the Wii2 photos, that looks like something out of a 3D printer.
Hopefully Nintendo has settled on a custom RV770 or at the very least RV740 GPU as a baseline. both of which (PC versions) are 4-5x faster than Xbox 360's GPU.
It's supposed to be an ipad / iphone counter. You buy the game on the system and use it mobile, whatever.
I really don't think Microsoft will be that impressive at this years E3. For the last two years, They've been showing off kinect and what do they have this year.... They can't do Kinect again, surely?
Too bad Kinect failed to keep its momentum. Microsoft had/have a good product but their push has been weak. Certainly, more "proper" games would be needed, and more games in general for the peripheral. I m surprised it has sold so well considering its novelty and lame games. Child of eden might be the reason I eventually pick one up but I d feel better if this wasn't the sole reason. Another reason is that they're releasing an SDK later this month for it, publicly. As for what they'd show this year..I m not sure what to think, Nintendo's moves will certainly create a reaction and hence I wouldn't be surprised if we got treated to some teaser FMV of sorts regarding what is to come from Microsoft in the following years - just to steal a bit of thunder from Nintendo's better graphics this time around. That said, I can't wait to see Mario rendered officially and properly with more current graphics. Let's hope that this time they won't fuck up any series' art direction given the horse power available.
What, you don't want to see a Harold and the Purple Crayon style Mario game? Seriously though, I think Microsoft is going to screw us over by announcing Kinect support for Xbox Live Indie Games. That's the last thing XBLIG needs right now.
Hopefully we'll see a good tech-demo of Zelda in HD, and Metroid too. I'm sure also Mario will be there, I hope from EAD Tokyo. I really want Wii 2 to be using a custom RV770 GPU or at least the RV740, both of which would provide 3-5 times the power of the Xbox360 and PS3 graphics.
A.) Nintendo being the real innovators they are set out and made a very strong point w/ the Wii, that it's not all about graphics but gameplay as well. I think the Wii is a high quality gaming machine (well built, a good bit powerful than the Xbox 1) - and it is really no matter how you look at it I think (and if you wanna base it on definition, the Wii is a very high quality piece of hardware) - but just wasn't aimed at the hardcore market like Nintendo's past consoles. B.) Nintendo realizes this mistake and is seriously going all balls out to make this Wii 2/Stream be one of the best consoles made yet and an attempt to really bring back the hardcore gaming market. Imagine, Crysis 2/3 on a Nintendo console, that would beyond killer, especially w/ the new horspower this machine is reported to be running
I smell fanboy. Speculating about things you wish nintendo did right will lead you to a broken heart. Hear this from much older fanboys of nintendo. Nowadays, we don't guess anymore, we just take it as it comes and in the meanwhile play on other consoles to pass time.
Some more rumours via Kotaku: - 8GB on-board flash memory instead of a HDD. - SD card support, but still, 8GB!?!?! - Game discs are capable of holding 25GB. - 1080i output. No, really. Still no confirmation of the maximum resolution.
Jeremy Parrish writes the best analysis I have ever read regarding the specs and Nintendo's strategy. In short, he uses common sense and reaches the conclusion that Nintendo is following the same strategy that created the Wii. I agree.
