Dunno, but I doubt they will do that: truth is you cant beat something thats free, and thats the idea behind piracy. Making the games cheaper will do little if security keeps the same and new, easier hacks become available. Once any kid can pull it off theres no ultra-low price that can change that.
Aye, that is so true. Well, you'll still have the really casual people who don't stumble upon that info easily, but still.
In the past you had most casual gamers who didnt even knew they could pirate the PSX, let alone that a chip was needed to do so. But today with news aggregators and such is easy to know about it. But that doesnt means the typical lazy knuckle-head will get a soldering iron and start making some madz moddin'...
I ll be frank. VC games are over-priced, and I ve already purchased a few, 50 USD of worth so far. All games that I ve had on my PC emulated for years now, mind you, and with higher resolutions. I think Nintendo could attempt at lowering VC prices in order to put off people who are thinking to go through the trouble of modding or hacking software in order to play VC games. That being said, I am curious and eager to see my own SNES code running on the Wii for example, even if it's just a mode 7 demo.
I think the point is that people can put ROMs on the Wii, not take them off the Wii. Which means that Nintendo will make less revenue from the VC. Thusly, they will patch the console to block the homebrew security holes.
That's what I was asking and no one answered. Did someone figure out how to put whatever ROM into the VC and play it? Last I heard there was a Zelda hack that allowed homebrew and they were working on doing something with that presumably to boot homebrew much faster. Never heard anything about VC though.
of course they are, PSN offers much more complex titles for less, and so does XBOX Live Arcade! The VC is half-assed emulation at its best - and I say this with anger for games that have retained their slowdown etc. Nevertheless, it's a satisfactory legal alternative to the usual way we play with emulators.
the most interesting part of the VC are e.g. translated games like Sin and Punishment,... but you're right it is (an will be) absolutely over-priced :-/
They aren't really. Sin and Punishment got a special treatment for the US release, which isn't really something that mind-boggling Both Sin and Punishment and my very favourite, Super Mario Bros 2 (Aka lost levels ) are at higher prices due to them not having an original US side release however! (800 points for Lost Levels is what I paid and I m under the impression that it's a biiiit of a stinging price that for an FDS game )
And to make things worse the VC has been fully hacked, you can now install any VC game using the twilight hack without even paying for it:noooo:
I would say it is translated. Of course, the original game had english dialogs, but the menu was even japanese. The VC-version got an english menu, so options are far far easier than in the japanese version. I think Lost Levels is much more playable in the original japanese version...
For me, I really dont much care about the VC games that you can get locally for a decent price. I like to have my games have an actual "physical" presence. I personally would like to see things like the translated version of Sailor moon: another story for SNES, The ranma RPG for SNES, etc..., on my Wii. then I might actually use the VC
I think the ticket system has been broken. Thats why users can issue their own VC games and valid tickets for them. Of course, to take advantage of any of this you still need to stack smash the Wii using Twilight Princess.
more interstingly, can a different SNES rom be bundled back in with modified HTML files but the same emulator file, and re-encoded, and played on my Wii? Because the wait for Earthbound on Wii is killing me.
