I know this particular forum might hate me for saying this but... honestly Nintendo should just go out of business already, WII U is gay! idk how else to put it
Look if I the biggest Nintendo hater on the forum is saying the Wii U is promising... it's Promising if the next XBOX and the PS4 fuck up the used game scene, Nintendo will be all we'll have left for true hardcore gaming
I kind of want the WiiU to fail, to teach Nintendo a lesson! The Wii pissed me off with its lack of grunt and inaccurate controller, it should have had 'motion plus' to begin with, then I could have more easily overlooked its lack of power. The Wii never lived up to its potential, remember the awesome light sabre game everyone dreamed of, it didn't happen. Nintendo claimed its previous gen spec would help developers make games more easily and cheaply, but it mostly put off the ambitious developers with big game ideas, because the other two consoles were more capable of bringing those games to life as intended (and a bigger combined user base too). The WiiU is again another console hampered by Nintendo cheapness, its good points let down by silly flaws. Its not powerful enough to guarantee a steady flow of games in all the genres you'd want, as developers will be split again with the other upcoming consoles (which some will be developing for right now). There's no decent internal storage space, and an external third party hard drive is a not a proper alternative. Even if you don't want to download anything, you'll need space for all the system updates and patches, Nintendo have patches for their own games now too. By all accounts the battery life on the controller is poor, if Sony or Microsoft made a controller you had to plug into the mains after 3 or 4 hours use, they would be laughed at, but Nintendo seem to get away with these things more easily. I was a Nintendo fan and even loved the Gamecube, but since the Wii I've lost interest in them, I'm not bothered about paying top prices for sequels to the same old Nintendo franchises. It would take a lot for me to buy any new console at this point anyway, Nintendo will have to ensure they get some awesome exclusive and more importantly original games to regain my interest. A gimmicky controller doesn't appeal, I'd rather see cool new ideas for games instead, but I guess that's more difficult for them.
I have been playing it all day basically , it's great. Mario is as awesome as can be! I hated the Wii except for a few games but so far the Wii u is fantastic.
Once nintendo was 3rd place with the gamecube, behind ps 2 and xbox, they have stopped trying to compete hardware wise but in the innovation factor. They figure they lost the hardcore gamers long ago to Halo and now are trying to appeal to families who don't care what the graphics look like. Its too bad, if they came out with an i7 processor or higher console with old snes controllers with an analog stick, it would win families and the hardcore. Also, its interesting that the most memorable games from the ps2, xbox, gamecube wars was the gamecube games. Many of them are brilliant. So many xbox 1 games are now forgotten.
Many people have gone back to the cube seeing what games they missed out on at the time. The Gamecube is great don't get me wrong. It's a little bit of a quick swipe to say people have forgotten about PS2 and XBOX titles. No way - many know where Halo started. So I very much doubt XBOX will be forgotten so quickly. The 'cube is becoming more stronger now for sure though. The Wii U to me it's a hit and miss - I'm very torn between ordering one or not ordering one. I think Australia has the MOST expensive price for it $350 for the basic pack and $430 for the deluxe pack - Some titles are sold for $80 like ZombiU and Super Mario Bros. U is sold at $69 (which isn't SO bad for a 1st party title). The US have it very good at launch, as for Australia I think it's wayyyy over priced. I'm not too sure how many orders have been placed like the Nintendo DS or Wii when they came out, but then again they were not overpriced. It's surely the gaming market here, we pay through the nose for everything that's newly released. It seems I might have to go halfs with my parents for Christmas, again not sure if I want the system right now though, like there's only so few titles so far... When I bought the Wii I only had Excite Truck for months on end...
i'll be waiting a while before i get a wii u but i will get one, the price will come down especially when sony and microsoft's next installments are announced for release / get released. and by then there will be alot more games etc for it, i can wait a few months to a year if i need to, i waited longer before getting a wii and an xbox 360, and will probably get a ps3 when they're dirt cheap
Well the reports on the system bricking are getting more widespread. you can't even cancel a game install now apparently or the system bricks. This is Nintendo's RROD
Heres a Wii U hard crashing during Nintendoland while the console emits a sound like an air raid siren http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z2UhaepkdFI&feature=player_embedded. One nice thing about the ps3 is that you can hold the power button down during hard crashes to reset. With the Wii U you have to physically pull the plug out. Haven't played my 360 in awhile so not sure if you can hold the button down during a hard crash.
I have a theory about menu slowdown. Since slowdown is not evident in games and applications at all. It's very snappy. For instance when watching Netflix a touch of a button instantly transfers the video from TV to tablet with no buffering or delay. I mean zero it's instantaneous. Mwhen playing games on tablet screen zero lag either. Slow only when loading a game initially and changing menu options in the firmware. My speculation is the slow times are due to the system loading program into onto the tablet. Every option menus functionality is integrated into the tablet, like miivers, settings etc. MIT seems like each change loads a new program into tablet and that causes the delay. Once in a menu changing screens such as settings tabs and inputting is no slow whatsoever. Same reason for loading games. Each game has to load a program to the the tablet initially for that games tablet features. If this is true it does not seem likely that firmware updates will change this if it's a communications delay and not a hardware delay. Unless every firmware option is loaded onto tablet at system boot as one program which may or may not be possible. MIT doesn't look like it works that way. The way the tablet works also seems to suggest at least to separate modes to confirm this. One mode for streaming video and gameplay which is short range. Works up to maybe 20 feet away than tablet drops out. Call this high bandwidth ode if you will. The second mode seems to have much longer distance and acts as if a program is actually running on the tablet and only input information is passed to Wii U. For instance the setup program walks you through and sets up all initial settings on tablet. For wii fi setup I had to go all the way up stairs to my PC to look up my password. The tablet worked the entire time. I entered my WEP password on my tablet about 60 feet away and upstairs and it worked just fine and took me to the next setup screen, yet I couldn't even get out of my kitchen watching Netfilx. So I think every menu option is its own separate "app" and must be loaded to tablet upon each use. A good analogy would be like loading a game on an everdrive when choosing a game. The system is not under powered or slow it seems, it must needs To " flash" a program to the tablet whenever you change what you are doing. Also some things seem to permanently reside on the tablet like the TV controls feature as you can access them anytime even when the system is off. The more I play the more this seems like what is happening although I have no proof to back it up other than when in a program Imhave encountered zero delays and very quick response times when creen changes on tablet occur.
Oh and my first impressions are very favorable. The HD visuals are great. The controller is very ergonomic and functional and surpisingly lighter than it looks. The Nintendo online account and users provide way more functionality than PS3 user IDs. You can actually password protect your user profile when starting the system so nobody can mess with your settings or post shit on your profile. Then using parental controls can limit access to what all other users can and cannot adjust. And support either 8 or 12 I forgot the exact amount of users per system. So all gamely stats and achievements and settings are done on a user basis. Very useful for string up Netflix to watch on tv and tablet for my 2 year old without worrying about him being able to mess anything up or be exposed to the Internet. The tablet functionality and synergy is really amazing. You'll find yourself looking at both and using different screen to do different things. Mario is great looking in 1080p. The sharpness and detail on par with with Rayman origins but with obviously different art styles. So far I am having fun with it. My pro controller arrives in the mail tommorow so I can't really comment on that yet. And with close to 20 launch games it's is an impressive lineup even if all the games are not for you or port showing limited improvement from current gen. The EShop is the best version yet and is very slick looking. Can download full retail games as well as games more on par with Xbox store like trine 2. And the Internet browser works well on tablet and the tv.
If your not joking, then yes the wii channel outputs 1080 signal, probrably just upsacaling the 480'p to 1080p. But still the same old virtual console games.
