Heading down to pick mine up now in half an hour or so, first time being excited for a Nintendo console in a while XD
Just home with it and setting it up, Christ the system update is taking an age, and I have an 80Mb line >:/ But is lovely to look at, the Gamepad is bigger than I expected
the gamepad is like a dreamcast controller +vmu done right. therefore logic dictates that the wii:u is the dreamcast 2.
Released here in Australia, no one on my Facebook posted an image of one. As from the looks of the midnight launch there was a few at some EB Games stores lol.
i saw an ad on tv the selling point is that you can play on the controller/pad while your Gf can watch her trash on tv
Yeah, it's a shame that no one has thought about creating a portable device held by the hands with which one could play games on...
Got mine yesterday, the launch here in Europe/Germany was on Friday, 30th, but I couldn't make it to buy it that day due to work. I really wanted to stand in line and wait for the shop to open and get mine within the first minutes, but that just didn't work. So yesterday I drove to the nearest electronics store and they only had one left. Before I had the chance to take the box with me, a little boy came and had an argument with his mum to buy it or not, I got mad too, because it was the last one there and I wanted it so bad...in the end the mother said it's too expensive and I was the lucky owner. I got the white one (didn't really have a choice, as there wasn't a black one left) but I to be honest I always liked the white one more. I don't mind about the harddrive with only 8 GB, because I can use an external too...and I'm also not really interested in Nintendo Land, because I have nobody to play with me and that's why I usually play on my own. Got Sonic Racing Transformed with it, as I love fun racers. I was playing it this night for some hours and I really liked it, especially that I can play with Ralph (going to watch the movie today, as it has it's premiere here)! But my favourite racer is Tails. Anyway no problems so far with the Wii U, the upgrade of the system only took me 2 hours, I expected it longer from what I read. The switch with my TV (it's a Panasonic Plasma 116cm) worked fine and I can use the controller as remote, the pic from the TV itself is then displayed on my controller...BUT I had a problem doing this while playing Sonic. I think the console didn't recognize that I switched the channel and still kept me seeing the pic of the course and drivers on my controller. I tried it a couple of times, as we wanted to watch a movie while I was playing, but it just didn't work, so I gave up. I hope this can be fixed soon. Otherwise I had fun chatting with a few other owners from Europe and around the world on the Mii Plaza yesterday and drew a few pics with the touchscreen for the chat.
There is no processor or anything in the gamepad it's basically streaming from the system to display on the gamepad. So there goes that out the window. @Nina Glad you were able to get it since you wanted it so bad. How much was it being sold in Europe?
the pack with the white one was 300€ for me and the game 50€, but I got a -20€ discount as I buy at this store quite often and the owner is a good friend of mine
ifixit has found that the tablet is a computer on its own, there is not expansion port. The WiiPad has a STmicro processor and 32MB flash ROM. Nintendo could have included a TV remote software because it has infrared HW. You get the WiiPad only together with a console unit so multiplayer could become a problem because they say use a 3DS but that platforms screens have a much lower resolution.
It's some what reasonably priced every else but Australia. $350 for the basic model and $450 for the premium model :/ - sweet that you got the discount though
i think that 330 euros is like 410 AU dollars or something like that ^^ so going by Ninas post the 8gb model is slightly more expensive in Europe ?? cause 300 euros is about $370
It's always expensive in Europe. If the system is $350USD it will be £300GBP which in actuality is $480USD. I have no idea why they decide to charge us an arm and a leg, it's partially why I never buy stuff on launch because we always get ripped off somehow with these things.
Because US prices don't include sales tax in the listed price. In the UK all prices have to include VAT at, quite shockingly, 20%. So as of today, $350 is about £218. Add VAT to that and you're on about £262. Include Import Duty into that and a bit of leeway for currency fluctuations and you're really not far from the 300 quid a Premium U costs over here.
