After a second thought, I won't consider Virtual Boy as one of the worst consoles even if it had its faults. At least it has its fun (even if it make me dizzy easily after a few minutes) and it was a step before 3DS. And usually people with no common sense are these ones who will sue a company because they don't write in the instructions that you must not do obvious actions like drinking a cologne or eating the plastic package of a food. That's why companies write detailed instructions even for the more obvious stuff but noooooooooooo, people are too lazy for reading the instructions. And that's why they shouldn't complain if they broke their tv with Wii Remotes.
Wii - Ruined gaming. And if I can say another: iPhone/iPod/Android... I know they are not actual game consoles... but thats the point they are full of shovel-ware that casual gamers think are cool. Leapfrog Leapster is CRAP I have Crysis 2 on it set to the lowest possible video settings and I still 1 frame per hour.
best worst system: My nieces sleeping beauty plug n play. There's a shmup on it, where you play as the 3 fairies. One red, one blue, one green. And you have to switch between them to shoot enemies. It's like Ikaruga! Just...very. very. slow. My fiance and I played it and were shocked at how GOOD it was. And the rest of the games are shit. http://www.amazon.com/Sleeping-Beauty-Plug-and-Play/dp/B0015E1HAM
Probably the Wii..essentialy an overclocked gamecube with more ram, a bluetooth remote, which was so imprecise it needed an add on (wii motion plus) released at a time when HDTV's were becoming the norm, resulting in it's already dated gfx needing upscaling..yuck! Oh and it's lame security meant it got raped quicker than Laura Gerow shouting "ya'll cant get it up!!" in the middle of a Detroit hood.
Xbox 360. Hmm, let's see, why do I hate this console? 1. Poor Manufacturing - Last I checked, Microsoft gets about 2500 a day from the UK alone. At launch time, this thing f00ked up so many times with so many different problems, it was like the launch of Windows 95 all over again! It has an endless number of syndromes that not even M$ can fix them all seems like. 2. The games aren't that good - I've tried many games and demos for the 360 and so far, none are really impressive or interesting, except those Burger King games. Other than that, it just looks like all 360 has is Gears of War, Dark Planet, and Halo 3. I just got done playing some of the new demos, and my god did they bore the hell out of me! 3. The add-ons are expensive - This is where things get totally ridiculous. $100+ bucks for a f00king power chord?! WTF? That's bull s@#%! Ebay isn't exactly cheap either... The HDD is more expensive than the original Xbox and the mem cards are almost expensive as the games themselves. My god that pisses me off. 4. Crappy firmware - What kind of company makes firmware that bricks it's own consoles? But then again, it's microsoft, they aren't perfect. 5. Too lazy to fix even the simplest problems - How hard is it to fix the scratching disc problem (when the console has a game inside and the gamer moves the console)? Not hard at all. Ameture modders fix this problem easily themselves, why can't M$? All they did was put a warning label on the drive. That's like putting a peice of plywood over a pothole in the road and calling it fixed! Not good enough. 6. M$ doesn't put enough effort into the emulator - It looks as if now that they got the most popular titles working (i.e. Halo, Doom 3, etc.), they can just forget about the rest. I mean really, they can emulate complex games Half Life 2, but simpler games like Azurik? I know writing an Xbox emulator is tough task, but still, they have all the documentation they'll ever need and not to mention the man power... 7. The dashboard sucks ass - The first dashboard was alright, but now, it's full of advertisements trying to fucking sell you some shit. Annoying as fuck. Overall, this game system has been a complete dissapointment for me. The original Xbox1 was an excellent console with tons of great games (that I like) and rock solid hardware. Every 360 I've had had some major malfunction. This console can suck my balls.
Interesting choice. I'll accept that early models had severe design issues, but I would say there is a difference between manufacture and design. The manufacturing faults within the 360 are no worse than its nearest rivals (it's just easier to kick a dog when it's already down), but I agree that, aside from the aesthetics and overall 'feel' of the console and controllers, having a console that has to vent constantly like it's on fire and *still* have a meltdown over time smacks of a poor design choice. A high percentage of the games are multi-platform titles, and that the exclusives have similarly high scores on Metacritic to their PS3 counterparts, so I can't really see your argument here. Is it because you are not a fan of FPSes, 2D shooters or shorter innovative download titles which are the staple of the 360? I would say that just because the games aren't your cup of tea doesn't make it a bad console, just more a reflection on the kind of games you enjoy playing. I'd hardly call a power supply an add-on (especially as it comes with the console, and it seems priced at a similar amount to other power supplies on the market), and I'd be surprised if you can say £43 (about $75) for a brand-new 250GB 360 hard drive 'more expensive than the original Xbox'. I would say their firmware is no worse than any other console, especially it's nearest rivals. At least in most cases for firmware updates, they actually CHANGE something - I can't recount the amount of time I have spent waiting for updates to happen on other consoles for it to not improve anything (here's lookin' at you PS3 and your endless 'security updates'). I think Microsoft completely cocked up by putting a drive tray in a machine then giving users the ability to stand it upright, then remove the bumpers that protect it (even if it did save them $12m, if you can believe Wikipedia). I agree that's a poor design choice, and they should have made it so it was 'lay it flat or risk the consequences'. It's all too easy (especially if you're setting a console up) to pick it up whilst it's on, but I can't really blame their laziness when I am too lazy to turn a console off before moving it - at least they warn us of what that can do. I don't believe the Xbox emulator is really that important. The trouble is the 360's technology is significantly different from the original Xbox (most importantly a processor that is not directly compatible with the one in the Xbox), so emulation is always going to be fraught with danger. I think it makes sense to make sure Xbox on Demand games are fully compatible, but seeing that the Xbox is a dead format I disagree that only supporting a portion of the Xbox's library makes it a bad console. At least it's better than the PS3, where they dropped support for the PS2 entirely after the first couple of revisions. I'm not a fan of the latest dashboard either, but I must admit that when I looked at the old dashboard again after having the first NXE for a month I couldn't imagine going back - it felt dated and frustrating to use. However, the latest post-Kinect version of the NXE doesn't do it for me, with its white boxes and flat, slow design. I recently switched to a brand-new 360 S I won in a competition (which still had the NXE dashboard) after I'd moved my old console to the new dashboard, and I was seriously tempted to not update it. It was just so fast to navigate and much better designed - the new one feels like they rushed out a release, skipped over the graphics and covered the controls in treacle - it just looks and feels half-baked. ---- As you can probably tell, I disagree that the console is the Worst Console Ever, but I accept that you're entitled to your own opinions. I personally think that aside from its design faults, there is relatively little I can say that's bad about it. It's certainly not different enough from the PS3 to make its issues good fanboy fodder. Most people who suffered the RROD shrugged it off, sent it back to Microsoft and got a replacement sent back, much like the people who send PS3s back for repair after they get YLOD, red screens or dodgy firmware updates. I do feel I must stress an important point though, one that is very dear to my heart and is completely unnecessary in this day and age: calling Microsoft 'M$' makes you look like a total douchenozzle.
The rest I might could agree with. This however, no, seeing as how the 360 has one of the best 2D shooter libraries of all time and has a very high quality JRPG library.
All you guys that say 360 are just ps3/wii fanboys, the system might not be the greatest but it sure as hell isnt the worse what universe do you live in. And for my own oppinion id have to say Virtual Boy, quite a few flaws in that system.
early 360s may have there flaws but the ps3 is just as bad. you must remember the xenon 360 was around much longer than the 60/40gb ps3's and im pretty sure the ylod/rrod rates would be pretty close if they ran the same amount of time
Come on guys, are we seriously going there? PS3 vs 360 crap? Is it because some are so young they don't know or experiance any real crap we had back in the days? How can PS3/360 or wii for all I care even be mentioned here with consoles like: Amiga CD32 Amiga CDTV Apple Pippin Casio Loopy Bandai Playdia Nec PC-FX Atari Jaguar Atari Jaguar CD 3DO (I don't agree, but i have to put it here for all the haters out there And so on....
Source. Agree with port, though, it's disappointing to see people trash talking modern consoles since there are great games on all three.
Modern consoles, all three, are pretty good. But the Wii did waste most of its awesome potential and is just good enough. Hack it, though, and it's a sweet, inexpensive, emulator console with awesome controllers (the classic is, well, pure class). A lot of retro gaming can be had in a very small package. So I consider current-gen trolling a moot point - this is neither 4chan nor gamefaqs. None of today's consoles can be "worst ever". None of them get to game.com levels or Atari Jaguar levels, or 3DO levels, or ActionMAX levels of suck. And even those sucky consoles are awesome in their own way because they're fun to collect. In my opinion, it's probably the Atari Jaguar - though the 5200, and I love the 5200 to death, is also a contender for worst console ever.
Or just noobs who think that Xbox360 is only about Halo and Fable. ...and great to make fun of them. Even today I have seen 3-4 anime that were making fun (or reference) to Virtual Boy like Lucky Star, Maria Holic and Nichijou. One of the best parts was when Konata (the main character from Lucky Star which is a female otaku) mentioned that if she will takes low grades at school her father will buy her a Bandai Pippin.
Ah, I love that part! She actually makes a ranking - Pippin, 3DO, something else and PS2, if I recall correctly. And she knows her games, I tell you that. That being said, I LOVE the Virtual Boy and it's one of the main reasons I bought a 3DS. Also, I mean, the 5200 is horrendous and I still love it. The Intellivision - man, I love collecting it. Still, though, the price of the 3DO? The CDi? The Pippin? What the fuck were they thinking? Those are horrendous consoles! (And I still find them really interesting)
Seriously, there are consoles released with software line-ups that can be counted on one hand, and genuinely have no redeeming points. Do any of the consoles being mentioned here even come close to that?
I'll stand my ground. Tempest 2000, Breakout 2000, Doom and AvP notwithstanding, the Atari Jaguar is among the worst consoles ever made. And I still wish I had one. 3DO and CDi are impressively bad, and had horrendous prices also - and their software lineups were shameful. Still, the Pippin... man, that was shitty as fuck. I think that one might be the worst console ever. That or the Jaguar. Hard to decide.
3DO had some damn good games like SSFIIT, Wing Commander III and Need for Speed. I can't think of a single genuinely good game for CDi, but it must exist...
Yeah, i was going to say the same thing. There are a lot of good titles for the 3DO. I really find it hard though to respect criticism of something like the 3DO when its being harped on by someone who wasn't even in grade school when it came out. I'm not saying thats the case here, but the magic of the 3DO was the in store displaces and the sheer intangible factor of the system for middle class kids like me. When I was 12 years old i walked into a "DOW" electronics store and got my first glimpse of the 3DO. At the time all i had ever known was sega and nintendo. To me, the 3DO was the wave of the future, something i could never afford or even play outside of the in store display. Now that i have a 3DO i have been going back and playing all those games that i missed out on and have yet to be disappointed. I cant say i am personally effected by 21 year olds talking shit about the 3DO, but i choose not to listen to them. because they dont know.
The BC is not an emulation; they recompile the original source. That's why big games are all available, but not many smaller games even though they're simpler - they couldn't get the original source to recompile for the 360. You download the new executable with the 360 System Updates, and the original disc(s) is(are) just used for the data.
