They had no choice. The company that ran it was bought out and shutdown. Nintendo had to shut it down. It only affected games and certain apps. The Wii Shop Channel still works fine.

Shhhhh... the Sony fandom that is the internet anymore might see this.

(Seriously, the amount of hate MS and Nintendo get from game websites and commenters is pretty ridiculous these days; everyone whined and cried about Tomb Raider being a timed-exclusive or exclusive or whatever it is, but SFV? Nope, good job Sony! Whined about Bayonetta 2 now that I think about it... )

But yeah, these days a lot (most?) of the gamers with a loud voice on the internet are complete hypocrites.

I agree with this. Every since Microsoft proposed the DRM measures everybody and their mothers jumped onto the Sony bandwagon.

Bayonetta 2 was funded by Nintendo. SFV seems too.
Tomb Raider is a marketing deal.

When Microsoft decided that with the Xbox One, all 360 users will probably upgrade to the One. With that decided and assumed, it was then time to please their extremely important brand partner's and advertisers. The consumer was already locked in as a given, now they needed to make ESPN happy. The Xbox One was designed as an ad and content delivery device guaranteed to make the most money for publishers with little to no regard to the consumer who had to pay for things they never ended up owning and watching all those great espn broadcasts.

When Microsoft put the consumer last and ad generated partners first, it was probably the worst offense in game history.

Alot of reasons stated here for me as to why I'm a Sony guy now and not an XBOX or Nintendo person.

It is amazing to see now though how many of those SCEA rejcted PS1 games are popping up on PSN now. As if Sony is trying to make up for past mistakes.

Nintendo however, they have nearly 25 years of Mistakes to atone for. One that nobody mentioned was Nintendo of America's Strict Censorship policies and BRAGGING ABOUT IT. They got their wake up call when Mortal Kombat on the SNES turned out to be a Joke (though It did look closer to the Arcade than the Genesis port)

SFV is going to have a PC release too, I think.

There was ALOT of butthurt over SFV being PS4 exclusive and people trying to reassure themselves that the next version will be on XO.

Sega promised that lessons had been learned from the Saturn era and that the Dreamcast was much easier for programmers to create impressive looking software on, promising it would hit Japanese shelves with a brilliant line-up of games. What did we get, again? Let's see:

    Godzilla Generations
    July
    Pen Pen TriIcelon
    Virtua Fighter 3tb

Of those, only one really made an impression when the console arrived overseas, and even that was a shoddy port that paled in comparison with Namco's far superior Soul Calibur - trust a company associated with Sony during the previous hardware generation to step up and deliver!

Ironically, two of the Dreamcast's other launch titles were by General Entertainment, with the last ridiculously obscure. Furthermore, the next wave of games such as Sengoku Turb and Seventh Cross didn't really help showcase the system's technical possibilities.

By the time they finally surfaced, both Sega Rally 2 and Sonic Adventure were still catastrophically flawed, though at least Metropolis Street Racer along with Shenmue was rightly delayed in order to become a far better final product, plus we should all know the fate of Geist Force...

While I'm on the subject of Sega, I'd also say that not having a proper new Sonic game on the Saturn did a lot of damage in addition to holding VF3 back for the Dreamcast. The long gap until the next sequel really hurt the series, though it didn't help that VF4 was less innovative.

I think a lot about what things would've been like if the Dreamcast hadn't failed. Fighting Vipers 2 is proof that it could do a near-perfect port of a Model 3 game (and it's one of the more graphically complex Model 3 games, too), and Dynamite Deka 2 showed that it could do a perfect (slightly improved) port of a Model 2 game. That means that Sega could've done near-perfect ports of any of the arcade games that were released before the Dreamcast. There are so many good games that could've been released if they'd only had a little more time. Although, they could've released more arcade ports on other consoles too. At least they released the Wii port of L.A. Machineguns.

I have never experienced slow down on the Xbox One. I bought my console brand new 3 weeks ago, so I don't know how the future will be like, but so far it seems fine.

Sega - pretty much anything after the Genesis era lol (especially Sonic Boom if we're talking recent)
Capcom - effectively killing the Mega Man franchise outside of appearances in spinoffs (when you not only severely lower the number of games output in your "mascot" franchise but cancel all of the upcoming titles, you've fucked up beyond belief); selling updates to fighting games as separate games even in the 21st century; being a good contender for giving the least shits about disguising on-disc content as "DLC"
Microsoft - ever thinking that their original Xbox One plan was a good idea (oh, and calling their third console "One")
Nintendo * - letting fossils like Miyamoto and Iwata respectively direct games and run the company (wasn't Miyamoto supposed to step away from the Mario/Zelda franchises and hand them off to other in-house teams?); calling their console the "Wii U" as a blatant and shallow attempt to cash-in on the initial sales boom that the Wii had; not having any must-have exclusive titles at the launch of the Wii U or 3DS; Nintendo of Japan not capitalizing on the competitive Smash Bros scene; having no clue about how to run the Wii U and 3DS Virtual Console services (it took them two fucking years to put N64 on the Wii U and still refuse to bring GBA games to mainstream 3DS users, but hey we got GBA games on Wii U and Game Gear on 3DS because that's what everybody wanted right?).... ah yes, and pricing Earthbound higher on the Wii U Virtual Console over other SNES games just to dick on EB/Mother fans that they've already been dicking on for years
Square Enix - pretty much anytime they touch the mainstream Final Fantasy franchise (this is tragic since they show that they really can still put out great content, but that they tend to choose not to); being money-grubbing douchebags about fan-content

*I'm not listing their YouTube partnership program because I'm torn on it:
    • on the one hand, it's silly that Nintendo's continuing doing this and in the exact same fashion when people have clearly taken issue with it and when no other company has really hopped onto the bandwagon
    • ...but I also think that Let's Players (the overwhelming majority of people affected by this) who complain about it grossly overestimate what they actually do and what they're truly worth (especially people who aren't big-time like PewDiePie); people only really made money off of YouTube due to not giving a fuck about copyright in the first place, so I don't get why people think that Let's Play is or ever should be a legitimate career when LP monetization is based off of loopholes and oversights anyway (that all said, I do take issue in Nintendo swiping a cut of money from reviews and original-made content)
    • in addition, I highly doubt that other companies haven't followed suit out of some notion about "caring for their fanbase" (because fucking lol at that); chances are many have either planned on doing something similar but are dropping it when they saw how poorly Nintendo was received for it (think along the lines of Sony's E3 2013 after the Xbox One's poor reception) or they're just sitting back for now and watching out how Nintendo does in the long run, planning to put out similar programs after seeing where Nintendo succeeded and failed

I say the XBox 360 RROD fiasco is the single worst thing in video gaming. Though rubbish (or day one) DLC, the death of bots (in-game computer controlled multiplayer opponents), the death of split-screen gaming, the fact that modern games cost so much to make that they are becoming rarer and rare, the dumbing down of first person shooters (no exploration, onscreen prompts for everything, the two or three weapon carrying limit, rechargeable health/shield, etc), unskippable cutscenes, the death of in-game cheats, etc are also huge disappointments.

Be glad you weren't an N64 owner. I love the N64 (it is my favourite console), but it's 2D library is tiny, as almost every game for it was 3D. Still, at least Worms Armageddon was 2D on it, I hated the 3D Worms games.

One minor annoyance that is huge to me is that Nintendo never released Metroid Prime 3 on the Gamecube (or at least let the Wii version be playable with the joypad instead of the motion controller). MP 1 and 2 are fantastic, but I can't play 3 as I just can't get used to motion controls.

I mean, we are all used to having to buy the next console up to play the next game in a series, but having to learn a new method of game control just to go from MP2 to 3 isn't right, at least not to me. Out of loyalty to their customers, Nintendo should have made sure that one way or another, Metroid Prime's many fans could use a joypad to control the game if they wanted to.

Yes, but it was and is a great console, both for it's native games, and for emulator use when modded (and for XBMC!).

It was irritating that the original XBox (and the 360, I don't know about the XBox One) didn't have a battery to save the time and date, though. So every time the power was interrupted you had to re-enter the time and date.

I don't believe using 'hax' as a valid argument. The PSP was pretty shit, but hax made it usable and same with the Wii.

My only gripe with Microsoft is that they could of come up with a better name than the 'One' and that they could stop marketing the Xbox one as "Xbox". It just confuses the fuck out the market. Nintendo is gulity of the same thing calling the 'New' 3DS... The NEW 3DS. It won't be "NEW!" forever. It only causes people to call the previous systems '3DS Classic'. It's quite plain Nintendo plan to phase out the old 3DS hardware just like they did with the 3DS.. Before the XLs.

None of which makes me hate either company, I enjoy all the hardware both have produced lately.

I really Like the PSP. The Imports are what make it worth owning. But the Vita has failed to be a worthy successor.

The Vita has some decent exclusives and cross-buy/cross-save indie games are nice. However, Sony put it at a massive disadvantage right out of the gate with expensive proprietary memory cards, and I doubt indie and niche games are satisfying the people who bought it because Sony marketed it as having portable AAA games...
