Why would they? arnt nintendo first party games released to everyone albeit region locked but everyone got it in their region?
I don't know how many third party publishers would still be pushing for region locks given the PS3 had none and a lot of 360 games were region free, but I guess greed kicks in. Nintendo are okay at releasing their games in a timely fashion now but as late as the GC the staggered releases were shocking.
What about the worst thing governments have done to gaming ? I can think of Brazil putting huge taxes on consoles, because they were considered gambling. And you can't forget the console ban in China.
There was one region locked game on PS3: Persona 4 Arena IIRC. It pissed A LOT of people off when that came. I think the Ultimax version is region free.
Considering someone went out of their way to get offended by some obscure British racist expression hidden in a banned member's profile, I'm surprised nobody has pointed out that there's an active member with a 9/11 sig...
I'm not really offended by it (maybe I should be?) but either way it takes up way too much space on the screen. In that last post it effectively doubles the size that the post would be otherwise.
There were more than one region-locked Japanese PS3 game, and Persona 4 Arena was just one of them. How about SCE region-locking the PSN stores, despite their new consoles being generally region-free? Or the fact that they didn't bring the UMD passport program worldwide? They claimed that the US did not need it because their games are cheaper than in Japan.. but how about the other territories like mine?
Seriously, that's annoying, so many PS1 classics that never came over weren't even released on the PSN. I mean, I can see not wanting to do all the translation and shipping discs in the 90s, but all you do is upload it now, you can even leave it in Japanese!
Sorry about that!! I wasn't too sure about that! I'll fix it! Well they HAD to region lock the store for obvious reasons (being a cheapass and getting the Europe or Japan version for instance).
Japanese games are expensive for a lot of us. Importing them may not be much more expensive, considering that a PSN Yen card has to be imported via a 3rd party, the prices in the Japanese store are tailored for Japan (their currency is strong) and a lot of the games that I want are not available in the local regional store. :/ I have imported games. Used ones may be cheap. But the PSVita has no UMD drive and their passport program only recognized selected Japanese UMDs (so if you got another version of a game that was internationally released, you are SOL). If the different prices is your argument, then they could adjust the prices based on your currency, like how Steam does.
I don't know if someone metioned this before but EA shutting down the sims buildings or whatever, yea it was probably mentioned before.
They didn't HAVE to, they could just do that GOG does and convert the price into the local currency of the user's country.
How about the Intellivision Keyboard Component fiasco or the ColecoADAM? Or absence of backwards compatibility on the Atari 5200?
From a certain angle, Atari suing Activision to stop making games for the 2600 was a kinda dick move, and, if they'd won the case, would have had enormous repercussions on the industry today and well into the future (there would literally be no third party games, or at least not starting then). Or Coleco making a clone of their rival's system to plug into a ColecoVision. That's pretty terrible.
Not the worst but Nintendo's eShop policy and tying content to systems rather than accounts drives me nuts. I own a DSiXL and a 3DS XL, but have to pay twice to play the same games on both systems. Sort it out Nintendo.
Weren't they more bought out than sold? I thought Microsoft just gobbled up all the shares, but I could be wrong.
