Hi Skier,

Anything new with your collection? I just wanted to ask you if you've come across this version of GT4 Prologue before. I just bought it online, and wondered if you could shed any more light on it. Thanks!

Ah, well I was going to post a picture but the site I bought it from is currently down for maintenance. I'll edit it this post with it later, but for now I'll just describe it. The disc looks much like any other GT4 Prologue disc, but the cover has an image of the Team Oreca Viper and the Corvette C5-R; with the words: The Drive of Your Life.

 

Hey Matt, not much new. I bought a GT5P Press Kit back in June and a Tokyo-Geneva promo disc in August, but that's about it. For the item you're describing I don't recognize it by description, the only alternate version of GT4P I'm familiar with is the Hologram cover with the BMW Mclaren F1.

 

Yeah, I know of the hologram cover too. Here are the pics of the GT4P disc and case - I bought it for 1 JP Yen! lol.

 

Odd, is there anything on the inside of it? I think it's a custom cover, since there's nothing on it "official" besides the logo. Also the fact that there's no trace of it online suggests you've either found a super rare item or a custom cover by some guy. Either way it's a cool find and definitely worth 1 Yen

EDIT: also you should compare the disc markings with a normal copy of GT4P from Japan, see if the numbers are different.

 

I'll hopefully be able to tell you more when it arrives. There doesn't seem to be a booklet though, just the disc and case. I wonder if Dogus or EdwardV12 could shed any more light on it. Might be a custom cover like you say though, but it would be nice if it was something official and rare!

 

That does look like a regular retail NTSC/J disc, although i could only confirm that if with a better picture of the disc and it's serial code

 

I can confirm that the disc is indeed the retail version of GT4 Prologue. Here's one more pic of the cover:

And also - I've picked up my first GT6 item, other than the game itself. It's some kind of promo / store DVD and I bought it from Yahoo JP Auctions. I have seen one more for sale on there too, so I'd recommend keeping an eye out on there if you're interested in a copy, as I'd imagine a few more might pop up.

I saw your video, looks cool. The only store DVD I have right now is for GT5.

I'm pretty excited right now, I have 2002 Tokyo-Seoul and GT4 Online in the mail right now!

Good thanks but hasn't changed too much lately, aside from the GT6 DVD. I was bidding on a GT4 press kit on eBay, but they always go for more than I'm prepared to pay.

 

I got it on eBay of all places. Shockingly it was for $5 since no one else bid on it, I was beyond lucky. I think I was also looking at the same GT4 Press Kit as you, it was $20 near the end and out of nowhere went up to $150 or something silly like that.

Finally got around to finding a decent Yahoo Auctions proxy service, which then got me GT4 Online for only $10 (though I'm sure they'll be bumping that up quite a bit in fees and shipping).

 

Yeah, the GT4 press kits tend to go for about £80 - £100... Glad to hear you got Tokyo-Seoul cheaply! I have set up a search term for it on eBay, so I'll get notified if any more appear.

Ah cool, so which service do you use for Yahoo?

 

I went with FromJapan. I heard some good things and apparently their rates are good, though I didn't spend a whole lot of time comparing services since there are quite a few. So far no issues, bid and won two items that weren't expensive at all, but I'm sure they'll be slapping some hefty fees and international shipping charges on me.

 

FromJapans fees are pretty fair all things considered. Just realize that they dont have control over the bank fees and Japanese shipping (or intl shipping for that matter).

 

Yeah, I think all the sites' fees are fairly similar guys. I use EasyAuctionJapan, which has actually had mixed reviews online. Though I've personally never had any complaints to make, and I've used it for about two years now.

Also, I just bought a lot of three GT items.

Thanks for the offer, but the normal Replay is also the only one I have. Almost got the Autobacs one a while ago but eBay lagged at the last second and I lost it (still haven't gotten over that one). Did those just arrive or did you just buy them? Besides a copy of the GT4 Online Beta I bought a week or two ago I haven't really seen any rare items for auction. Also I'm pretty excited since I just bought a sealed copy of the US GT4 Beta as well, and I have a Making of Gran Turismo 4 DVD coming with the JP Beta.

 

No problem! And that sounds great, man. Just to check when you say beta, do you mean the online beta versions? I own the NTSC/J one, though I've never actually come across the NTSC version for sale. Was it another eBay purchase?

Tough luck on the Autobacs Version, I've been in similar situations before (maybe not quite as dramatic though. ). Yeah, I have literally just bought them so those are the seller's pics rather than my own. I actually managed to grab all three for a combined total of 500 JP Yen, so that's roughly about £3! Unbelievable really... But I think now could be the best time to find these rarer GT titles, seeing as most auction websites are currently full of copies of GT6, so the gems seem harder to spot.
