How young are you if you can't even visualize what a VCR looks like? Although to me the X-Bone looks more like a 90s VCR than those 80s metallic ones.

I'm old enough that the National brand VCR in the first picture is the same one we had when I was a kid. ;)

I didn't need to visualise what a VCR looks like, I wanted specific photos I could post and say "These things look nothing alike" or "Yeah, they look alike, so what?"

But then I got that first GIS result and I was all "shit yeah, this is what electronics should look like!"

I have a newish VCR behind me as I type this, but that's a bad example, because I think "new" VCRs look dumb (relative to older ones, anyway).

Do you really think the 360 live service will be turned off quickly? Gta V and COD ghosts are gonna be released on 360 and will both have multiplayer....I think the current service will still be active for at least a few years.

If this happens, whether it gets turned off tomorrow or a few years from now, the point is they are going to turn off the service, not when you have decided you never want to play the game ever again, but when they decide they don't want to support it anymore.

They want you to buy the same old games you probably have a physical copy of on a shelf somewhere over and over again for each iteration of Xbox/Live Arcade (or psn, WiiWare, etc.). With this generation, it won't even matter if you save the hardware...

I'm sure no one regrets buying Geometry Wars, but think about it, no matter what, you'll never be able to play that game ever again. Maybe you'll get the privilege of being able to buy it again, but your scores will be gone. It's not the same thing.

Just watch out for games you can only play via Steam though...

Also, don't forget the issues gamers faced with Diablo III or the Sims.

I'm honestly afraid to drop major cash on any game because I see people getting burned too frequently. The only way to truly game worry-free these days is to support indie developers.

The Onion headline writes itself: "PC Gamers Complain About Used Games Fee While Using DRM That Prevents All Sales Of Used Games"

Not to worry, that only applies to around 90% of all PC games today!

i've had my steam accounts since 2003 / 2004 respectively and can still play all the games

im not up to speed with the diablo III or sims issues as neither franchise interests me, just the recent sim city fiasco but that was EA...(as are the sims)

Basically if i wan to play a PC game from 1989 on my PC in 2013 i can. hense the e-laughing getting ripped off with monthly subscriptions for online services ontop of paying full price for the game, for the services to get canned after a while when the next console comes out seems a hella load of ass to me

edit: @7Force, yup true about the Steam DRM eg inability to resell however on that note i have purchased various retail games used that require steam without issue. one example being. Warhammer 40k Space Marine. even the games for windows live crap, purchased sins of a solar empire used. just had minor issues due to changes in activation and DRM client since games retail release.

I just mean to say that Steam can do this whenever it wants, too. Do you trust Valve to do what's right for you, or for its bottom line?

You own those games from the 80s. You don't own the games that require Steam or DRM to play.

How is that possible unless they never used the activation key to begin with?

Cant argue with that logic...because of the new xbox I can't play any of my old games from 1986-2013, oh wait

think you missed my point completely in relation to the post i originally quoted. i wasn't implying the new xbox stops anyone from playing their old games. im just saying with my PC i can play all my PC games regardless of age, whereas xbox one has no backwards compatability, with either xbox or xbox360 games, not their online services DLC or other digital purchases.

no idea, i assume possibly some kind of reselling deal with the new retailer? either way i dont care, they work.

they have a better track record than most, but at the end of the day its a business, their core market is not hardware based it is software based, E.G. its not tied to a certain piece of hardware, so as i have upgraded my pc or even built a whole new one, or if i have multiple different PCs i can still play my games on them even the games i first purchased way back in 2003/4 on that service.

could they just turn around and stop it? yes they could at any time, could they go bust and dissolve? yes they could. do i trust them not to do that? at the moment, yes, but hey anything could happen.

prehaps so with licensing and agreement changes. but many many games i own do not require steam at all.
however i understand and accept that before i purchase a game via digital distribution on steam. or agree to a retail license.

So what you're saying is there's no way for a private user to resell a Steamworks game, like I said. A good reason to never buy games at full price on Steam, since you're stuck with them forever.

Thats actually a good reason to pay full price on steam for a launch game because you'll have it forever. Well at least you feel like you do. I trust valve with Steam, I can change my hardware as many times as I wish and those games are always mine.

Losing everything because you switch to a new console just seems insane in this day and age.
