Then allow me to sound like a paranoid nut. Voice recognition, facial recognition. According to Microsoft the damn thing can even read your heartbeat. This thing is Big Brother's wet dream come true and you bet your ass I'm worried about it being abused by governments. Both mine and other countries that care even less about rights and privacy

I see some interesting court cases coming down the road regarding this. Once the lights go out and people lose all the stuff they've purchased somebody is going to file a class action.

The other thing I'm surprised that nobody has mentioned is that this whole "mandatory activation" idea means that collecting games will be pointless - eventually, the activation servers will be turned off, and when that happens the physical media will be worthless since there will be no possibility of ever installing it.

The whole thought process behind this reminds me of DIVX - and that was dealing with media that was far less expensive than games, but failed horribly anyway.

The XBox One - EA and Microsoft must of been doing some dealing there. Everything that gamers want is non existant Online is key (for piracy and stopping used game sales) paying for trading your own game you paid for and downloaded 20 odd gig of data to transfer as well. Yep this is the machine that will go down in history for one thing - Killing the Video gaming industry (give yourselves a pat on the back).

I'm not worried about any extra expense it may incur or having it set up or MS stealing my identity (tinfoil hat time) or anything. I'm just worried about the simple fact that it doesn't work. It just does not work the way it's supposed to. Sure not all games will require it but I bet MS will be pushing developers to include it in games since every console will have one, perhaps creating extra functions that are Kinect exclusive etc.

Aside from that and the appearance of the damn thing it looks alright. I'll definitely get one once it gets hacked open and the online shit can be patched out, or if they decide to ditch the mandatory Kinect stuff.

Nah, I wouldn't worry about it too much. The motion-sensing has been there on the Wii since day one, and for the most part, games that make sense to play on a Dpad can be played with a Dpad.

Like Mario Bros, Mario Kart, Super Smash Bros, etc.

I still don't get what people don't like about the appearance. It looks no different to other DVD/BR players, STB's, DVR's, and whatnot. I reckon that's a good thing!

It looks alright head-on (though a bit like the PS3) but all the pics I've seen from other angles make it look odd. I'm scared to see what the dash will look like given the 360s has got pretty bad with the Metro style interface it has now.

It'll blend in but I guess I just expected something a little different. I remember when they showed off the 360 and were talking about the curves on the design and how they didn't want it to be a bland box. Now they've made a bland box. :D

Oh yeah, you can't sell the console ID with the console.

You are only buying a license.

LOL Yeah no doubt it looks like a VCR but it does look like a nice sleek box to have next to your TV. I think it matches everything nicely.

I find the name really confusing. "Xbox One" sounds like what people call the original Xbox, has Microsoft given some some kind of reasoning for the name? Also, why such a small amount of RAM? RAM is cheap as chips these days, and devs seem to always be complaining about lack of RAM (which was apparently the whole reason why Valve never released any of the TF2 class updates on the Xbox 360 version of the game), so why not add more? It's nice to see it's using a slot-loading drive instead of a tray, trays suck.

I'm reserving the majority of my judgements till E3, but I really didn't like the entertainment aspect they were pushing at the conference, they tried the same approach with the Xbox 360 ( Anyone remember them saying something along the lines like " Every TV will have an Xbox 360! " ) and that didn't really work out well for them, yes its a different market today but majority of consumers are going to be buying the thing to play.. I dunno... Games!

From what I saw, it felt like games were a bit of an afterthought and they dished out the big sellers ( which aren't even exclusive ) to tie the gamers over... which for me personally rubbed me the wrong way ( why not push out some valuable and creidble IP's like another Halo or Gears of War game...even a spinoff... or do another Banjo game!? ) Though I am looking forwards to the 15 exclusives they announced. Console does seem impressive as far as what it can do performance wise, but I'm really not liking the somewhat always on feature, having Kinect on all the time and the console installing everything from the disk onto the hard drive... It just makes the console feel so restricted and It's just a bummer that I may not be able to borrow a mates game and play it on my system.

Of course it will, the activation will be cracked and then you can play them like normal. Always-on PC games like Diablo III and SimCity have also been cracked. Speaking of which, why don't any of the PC gamers here complain about Steam, which is even more strict when it comes to used games than the new Xbox? Every single one of your games is tied to one account forever, without any way to trade them. Hell, there practically is no market for used PC games thanks to most of them being Steamworks, meaning that even physical games require you to connect to Steam, and once you use the activation code, they're tied to your account forever.

Considering I can get games on Steam for the same, if not cheaper than a used copy at retail, that's not a huge loss.
