You're looking at this the wrong way. Don't look at it as "It doesn't really affect me that much so I'll go along with it." but instead as "This is the first step to something that will affect me later on." If Microsoft can get away with this successfully do you really think they won't try to push it further the next time or that the precedent set by this won't embolden other companies (perhaps even those unrelated to gaming) to attempt something similar?

"I'm going to give up my digital freedom because the Duel Shock has bad sick placement"

Yes there totally won't be a solution for EX-Box gamers. Because the PS3 totally doesn't have one either....

if i was getting a ps3 i'd get that controller as the ps3 dual shock is my main gripe with the sony console, that and the removal of the linux support.

I got it mostly to play FPS games But it's turning into my default since the D-pad doesn't murder my thumb and it has SIXAXIS support.

GodofHardcore, what brand makes that controller?

As for Dual Shock 3, i never had any problems with it. I do agree it's not the best controller, but it's not even close to be the worst.

Power A makes it. I never heard of them until I was looking for a 360 alike controller to get with my PS3 It was between that and the Nyko Raven.

I'm not sure how it will affect me down the road. But I do know that I'm fine with having items tied to an account as a form of DRM. Which is basically what the Xbox One is doing right? That's how almost everything else I use works (Steam, iTunes, the App Store, Zune (RiP)). I'm okay knowing that someday I might not have access to all the content that I currently have tied to those accounts. I'm not thinking that far ahead, I'm here... Right now. It might just be my immaturity but it's really hard for me to think 15 years ahead.

I don't understand what's with the sixaxis hate? The playstation controller has always been one of my favorites, ever since the first non analog model that shipped with launch ps1's. Bad stick placement? Why would I want my left thumb up high and my right thumb down low - I mean it's not a big deal but PS controllers just make more sense to me.

I don't get it either. The Sticks themselves could be more tense though.

The D-pad (not a big deal since not too many games use it these days) and the triggers suck.

All the "losing digital rights" indignation is funny because almost all of it also applies to Steam, doubly funny when people say they're gonna switch to playing PC games. Where's the outrage towards Steam's policies?

You say you don't understand, but then you go on to label why people are hating on the sixaxis as if you understand exactly why. It is for the exact reasons people have mentioned. I personally agree, I don't like the sticks being parallel to each other, I don't like the feeling of the sticks themselves, & I don't like the shoulder buttons or D-pad.

It has been there, but it has died down due to the following reasons. . . (speculation)

-Cheap priced games / Tons of sales
    -Free Online (- some MMO's)
-Overall acceptance of DRM if it is non-intrusive
-Promise from Valve that if they go out of business, Steam will be updated to unlock the majority of games for use without Steam or Online Verification & be open to download again for a certain window of time. (Assuming it is not in the EULA, though)
-PC games have always required installation, so I guess the jump to all digital was less of a sting than consoles who would only play from the disc/cart in the past.

That is how I see it, & I have hated Steam since its release. I am all for games being standalone like the good old days. Just pop it in, enter a CD Key an play the damn game without the need for a front end that isn't entirely friendly with resource consumption on standby. . . . I will admit out of any front end to launch games (or shitty overlayed GFWL), Steam handles things the best.

pretty much, steam has had its fair share of hate in the pc gaming community since it's launch, and still has.

no monthly or yearly subscription charge. always helps they have done some good things like re-support multiplayer in some titles, they re released company if heros as a steam version after THQ going bust, with support for steam network(and not charging you for it). support (all be it slow) for linux and mac giving you the ability to use whatever os you want and play the multi platform games without having to re buy them eg if you originally purchased counter strike source on windows at launch you can log in on linux down download and play it, heaps of sales all year round, can log into steam from any computer anywhere download and play your games.

ohh yeah and it doesn't require you to have a spy cam and mic to watch you fap.

There certainly are a lot of strong opinions about the Xbox One... and not just on this site, but almost everywhere you look. I certainly understand the reason why, though I don't understand the personal insults being hurled at those planning to purchase one. Anyhow, the way I see it this is just the first step to the ultimate goal. I'm willing to bet dollars to donuts that the next round of consoles after the Xbox One and PS4 will not use physical media at all, but will be 100% digital distribution. This is just the natural progress of things, and not just for video games. Look at music, movies, and even books. Digital distribution is the end game for all forms of media, and it solves the DRM, secondhand, and borrowing "problems" in one fell swoop, and publishers LOVE that. Being collectors, most of us hate the idea of digital distribution, but we can't just stick our heads in the sand and act like it's not going to happen or that buying a PS4 instead of an Xbox One will prevent it from happening because I promise you Sony wants digital distribution just as much as Microsoft.

That being said, I don't think digital distribution is all bad. Being primarily a PC gamer, I have a Steam, Origin, and Impulse (which is owned by GameStop now, because they certainly see the writing on the wall...) account. Anymore when I buy a physical copy of a PC game I end up having to activate it through one of these services and I never even use the game disc at all. Even Blizzard's latest offerings, which came in beautifully done packaging, needed to be linked to my Battle.Net account and the physical media ends up going unused. Even someone such as myself, who prefers owning a physical copy of a game, has been ensnared by the "Steam Sale bug" from time to time. Last year I bought Borderlands Game of the Year Edition for $7.50 during a Summer sale, which is a far cry cheaper than I could have gotten it used at any game store at the time. I have nearly 100 hours into the game and I've only done playthrough 1 with one class. That's what I call entertainment value. Now I know I'm rambling on, but I do have a point, and that is, if Microsoft and Sony end up offering regular sales like the ones on Steam, perhaps that will make the digital distribution pill easier to take.

Found this. Don't kill the messenger; I'm not even planning on getting any next gen console anytime soon. Just thought it would be an interesting read:

The disdain at people supporting the XBone is the same type as that for people who collaborate with the enemy occupying territory though it is certainly not at the same level of importance.

You are right about the elimination of physical media being the endgame. I know I didn't look a Sony's purchase of Gaikai as a good thing but more as an early warning to what the next fight will be down the road. The roles could easily be reversed the next gen around with Sony getting the hatred for eliminating PM and Microsoft keeping it have learned from the mistakes of the Xbone.

Suddenly I have a new respect for music people who refuse to buy anything but vinyl. It also gives me some hope though.
