I like the shape and look of the box itself, but that controller just looks....unfinished. It's like they got halfway through it's design and said screw it. And what's up with that remote? Shouldn't it at least look as good as the one that comes with Windows Media Edition? I thought they were trying to pull the windows designs together, this seems to take it in another direction.
I'm sure with a nice paint job (I am hoping for ferrari red) it can look very sexy indeed. Looks like the day I get mine it's coming apart to be painted that color.
in terms of backwards compatilility, the word is that a version (with the HD) will be compatible with XBOX games while another (without HD) will not be backward-compatible (will cost less). ditto, i'll keep it like that until I have a good idea of what I want. I painted almost every one of my consoles so why should this one be different? :smt1062
the design indeed looks unfinished and proto like, i liked the unoficial pictures better (those with the bronze tray)
Any sideways screenshots of it? I wonder if there will be a lot of special colors or variations coming out...I want a Halo 3 edition.
I think it looks a lot better than the original but why have it concaved? That makes it look really cheap in a sort of "how can we add some design to this? I know just concave it" type way. Also, what's the fascination with standing consoles on their end? Yakumo
eh...i think its ugly...they could have made the tray the same color as the rest of the thing, and i would hope the console stacks nicely. notice the power/stand-by button...the open circle with the intersecting line. standing the xbox upright all is fine. place the xbox flat and the symbol changes. its a horizontal line intersecting an open circle...hmm i think thats the universal symbol for waste of money.

It will apparently come in two flavours, with and without a hard drive. The cheaper one will NOT be backwards compatible. There's no word on the more expensive version.
Assuming all that is true: 1. The name sucks, and im not the only one who thinks so. 2. Sounds good, except im not too keen on a pc version 3. Makes sense. 4. Smart move. 5. I've never cared to stand a console on its side, but I guess alot of people liked that part of the PS2. 6. Err...no wire based controls? They better have fantastic battery life, and be rechargeable (as opposed to using traditional batteries). 7. Powerful sounding on paper, but im wondering if devs will be able to use all that correctly *looks at Sega Saturn*. 8. Yep, this one has been confirmed for a loooong time. Im wondering how it'll effect the backwords compatibility though. 9. Bad move. This could hurt them the same way the GOD discs hurt the Gamecube. 10. I don't think I even get mtv... 11. A little earlier then I expected. 12. I'd prefer using wires for the lan function, but oh well. 13. I assumed as much. 14. Yep, and im definetly looking forward to seeing what they will do on it. 15. ALL games? So their forcing devs to implement Live functionality, even if it has no relevance to the game? Thats f'ing stupid. 16. And then their were patches... 17. quite a large margin, looks like they havn't given this much thought. 18. And thus stories of microsofts ipod-killer begin anew. 19. Great, so now I can accidently hit the wrong button while playing a game and lose all my progress as the game decides to log onto live. Brilliant. Overall the system looks quite promising, but based on what was said above its not quite the leap forward from this generation I was hoping for. Also, that prototype casing and controller seriously need to go back to the drawing board.
Bah, I'm sick of all this forced Live/online access. Some of us game players do not care about being online (or at least online through a console). Personally, I think that the online and multiplayer focus is killing off games. Splinter Cell was good. Pandora Tomorrow was ok, but the addition of multiplayer took programming efforts away from the main single player game. Choas Theory just felt entirely too short because they once again focused on the multiplayer instead of just making two separate games. Hell, Phantasy Star Universe (PS2) is going to be effectively half online, half offline, and ruining both in the process. The forced Live support does sound worse than it probably is. MS only wants to make sure that specail button on the controller is handled and passed through by every game for the system or else the button would be pretty useless (which it will be anyway). I would much rather have the button used as a remote on/off switch for the console. Just think, this console style was (theoretically) chosen as the best by focus groups. I'd hate to see what they rejected. The original Xbox may have been bulky compared to other consoles, but at least it looked like it belonged in an entertainment center. Maybe it will be easy to hack into an empty PS2 case...
I wonder about these three... 15.I guess this means all the games will at least have a virtual chatroom. XD 16. WTF? Does that mean I could make Master chief look like the Guyver or something if someone made a guyver skin and halo whatever supported skins? 19. I assume it will be like a big ass button that is probably going to be the symbol as well...
They just have to intergrate the functionality using the live tools MS provide. Its just live awareness so that while you play a game people can send u invites to play other games or u can see what your friends are doing!
For those people that are planning to get an X360: What version are you planning to get? The cheaper version, or the backwards compatable HDD version? Or get the cheap one, and add a HDD later? I'm just trying to guage how much people are interested in playing original games, and having to potentialy spend more $£Y to do so. Me, I'm not planning to get one at all.
