That is the ugliest pic I have ever seen. I fear I may have nightmares where that's chasing me. Shudder... Cool idea though
It's not that bad. I'll be interested to see what Nintendo and Sony come up. Something tells me that people won't be lamenting and complaining about those designs simply because they're not made by Microsoft.
I will be if they look crap. I still think the PS2 is F*cking ugly. Looks like a reject design from the R&D dep' over at Lego. The original Fisher Price looking Game Cube is also F*cking ugly. The N64 pad is ugly and pretty crap for anything like fighting games. The SFC pad on the other hand was wonderful. Yakumo
My point was simply that a whopping big (console terms) memory should mean they can share like happy little bunnies.
I don't know why people just don't put more ram. They always fight to save on ram.. Put 2 Gigs of system ram and 1 gig of video ram and get it over with.
Cost??? 2GB of ram is £478 on one chip, and 2x1GB is £164. Thats more than the Console/ Computer (in some cases)/Video card etc!
Cost, that's why. Gaming hardware is sold at a loss as it is. Since these things are manufactured by the millions, every potential penny saved adds up very quickly. Tradeoffs have to be made and that's the way it is. Want cutting edge hardware, get a PC and upgrade every year.
I know they loose but give developers what they want instead of what they need and we could have kick ass games. More kick ass games means more revenue. I think i will start a computer gaming company called kick ass games. I will just get games people forgot about and republish them, Oh wait ! nintendo Capcom sega and ever other developer is doing that.
Belive me its really not about not having enough ram in the console... Also if developers were better and took more care when writing code we would see better results from games... why the fuck does sims 2 slow down my computer when bloody half life 2 doesnt at 1680 x 1050!
What graphics card on the market has eDRAM? (think of it as a CPU's cache). It is far far faster then the memory bandwidth on your graphics card (and more expensive), and mostly acts as a framebuffer. This is top of the line stuff, ATI just had their patent approved the end of march. And like was said.. it isnt a PC, the xbox has 64 megs of ram to share with the kernel, system, and gpu, and look at the performance...
