You wouldn't think so. After all Japan and many other countries in that region have pretty much built themself up by selling what comes down worthless plastic and electronic trinkets to the US year in and year out. US dollar goes out plastic and/or electronic disposable product comes in.

However, I have heard that at least in Japan some consider it a crime for a treasured item to leave the homeland and that when it comes to bigger ticket items the mob has even pushed its weight around to ensure things stay put. I heard this not about videogame specificlly but Japanese artwork in Japan. Do they consider videogames a trinket or a treasure? Do other countries have the same fellings? That I don't know.

read a while ago about some importers that received death menaces from yakuzas (!) for importing in the us some hakosuka skyline, considered "national treasures"

 

So they must be really ticked when you get a Japanese guy to buy it on your behalf and then wisk it away to North America

 

anyway these are just stories I read over the net, could be easily some metropolitan legend

 

actually i found the people at nakano mandarake to be really friendly and reasonable when i was there (much more so than in other stores).

ofcourse i didnt buy any yamyams but still... i dont think they would refuse a foreigner if he had the cash.

 

Yeah, they're pretty nice indeed. I bought a Taroumaru there and they opened not only the protective wrapping of the showcase one but even provided me three more copies from their stock. Thus I was able to pick the best parts (sticker, spine, manual) from each game in order to compile the PERFECT Taroumaru

 

intersting, now I just have to sell my house and my car and go to nakano with a couple of briefcases full of cash

That's pretty much normal in all game stores in Japan. Just ask to see the condition of the instructions or something and they'll gladly show you. Same goes for hardware. Letting choose parts from a few different copies to make the best possible copy though is quite unusual.

Exactly what I said, Mandarake was the only shop where they provided me several copies in order to pick perfect parts (without asking). I asked to open the wrapping almost everywhere and they never denied me that request, so this one service is indeed nothing too special.

I don't think they would deny such requests in Germany, at least I never had problems with that. The biggest problem is though (and that's, apart from the price, why I don't buy something in European game stores) that they don't shrinkseal their retro games/hardware. Everything stands in the shelves just as is and can be touched by any random customer who happens to pass by.

I got this FAKE item from a japanese friend in some monthes ago. And think that it's real YAMYAM GOLD! At first, I was very glad to got it. I bought it in high price, it is over $3500. I think that it's real and have only one item in the world. As I'm a collector, I love to have it in my collection. So I kept it for many monthes and didn't want to sell it.

Then in October, I see ebay had promotion fee, so I test to list this item. In fact, I never thought that I could sold it. And never hope to sell it. But it beyond my expectation, there were so many many people interested in it and ask me many questions. Then I just knew more about this item.

When ending, there was no one win the bid. Matti or jhonny_d contact to buy from me later. I think that he love this item as me, we're collectors in this field and want to know more friends. So I decided to sell to him for $4000 by paypal. And there were many friends contact me about this item, so I send some gold cartridges in my collections to them. I want to share photo in my collection to new friends. And if them interested in any items, if I can sell, I'll sell. I got all items from many sites, auction sites, from many international friends. I collect them for a long time. In my thought, I think that all items are real !!! I never think that I'll buy fake item before!!!

Then jhonny_d contact me that my item is FAKE, and told that the real one still in Mandarake (Nakano) now. So I try to contact Mandarake and let's my friend to visit there. Finally, I know exactly that the real one still in Mandarake now!!! So I agree to give full refund to jhonny_d.

I refund to him already now and get the fake item back too.
I sorry with him about this situation. I never image that I'll buy fake item before!

So I want to clear myself here about this item.

OH God!!! Mandarake know that it has fake one in market, why Mandarake don't handle about this fake since it was in market??? This fake item was sold from one to one, until to me in Thailand. Everyone think that it's real!!! So many people suffer from this fake one item.

My friend saw it in http://www.play-asia.com/ once, then he saw again in http://www.rakuten.co.jp/ (it is auction site). Then he won auction of this item from that site. I don't know when was fake item in market? And don't know how many people bought it before? But I think that everyone who bought this fake item will suffer now, if they knew that it is FAKE!!! So many people have to suffer from this fake item. Now we cannot find the one who make this fake one. So bad!!!

I contacted him and he told me as I explained in last post.
He won this fake item from a japanese auction site.
And I cannot claim refund from him, because I bought this item from him in many months ago!!!
In trading rule, buyer should claim refund within 7-30 days from receipt, isn't it?
So I have no comment to claim refund from him.

I understand that he's also another one victim who bought this fake item too.
As I told that there were many people who suffer from buying this item, and they thought that it was real one.
So I decide to STOP all by myself now!!!

I'll accept my losing in money and reputation, caused from my stupid.
I stupid to bought fake one and think that it's real. Then I sell in ebay and it destory my reputation.
This is a very high lesson for me!!!

So I'll keep this fake, until Mandarake will advise me about it.
