turrican on amiga, wipeout3 and wipeout fusion, super mario world, soul calibur on dreamcast, tales of phantasia come to mind. by the way soul calibur on dc looks even better than the screenshot yakumo posted. in that screen shot you can see interlace lines.
yep, it sure does look a lot better  Another game that still looks fantastic is Keio flying squadron for the Saturn. Played this today and was still impressed by the quality of the backgrounds, animation, rotation effect and even transparencies! Yakumo
OH OH OH Bahumet Lagoon SNES Japan Only (BOOOOOO) RPG that nears 32 bit quality in it's colors and presentation.
Square? releasing games in Europe? In the mid 90s? Speaking of which. Final Fantasy IX impresses me in every area that VII made me say MEH
8 is my favorite. I guess I like 9, but when I played it I was really sick and medicated, and I remember getting to the part on disc 2 with a bunch of dancing rat guys, and just had to stop there. 9 did have awesome music though.
Europe didn't even get to see the awesome that is Chrono trigger until now. shoe is on the other foot now, a few games come out in europe that we never see... cougheviltwincough
Well jeez, I was just asking. I swear I saw it in a Europe SNES games list once, just thought I'd check.
I'm surprised no one else has mentioned Rystar, Gunstar Heroes, or Dynamite Headdy. Just played them the other day thinking how good they look still. Not OMG amazing, just something about them that still says good.
Some N64 games still impress me even today. Ocarina of time doesn't feel dated to me and neither does SM64. Perfect Dark always looked lovely, I just wished they toned down the graphics a bit in favor of the framerate. In co-op it's just horrible. I also think some 16 bit RPGs don't look that bad. But then again I just feel RPGs are made to be 2D My opinion is probably very biased though. I bet most gamers would never agree. But yeah since most of us play retro games here I guess it holds up :110:
I hauled the N64 out again the other week, and honestly I can't imagine how we used to put up with the framerate on this and GE. Someone online had convinced me to go back and check, that the framerate wasn't as bad as I was making out... they were completely wrong. An FPS could look completely lifelike, but if the framerate is sub-par it's worthless. PD is the perfect example of a good game ruined by an unacceptable framerate. And yeah, of course the slowdown at the end of the stages in Ikaruga was intentional.
Yeah, I have no clue how we all used to play that either. I really don't. Though, if you sit down and play it for awhile, you do get used to it. We dug it out a few months ago for multiplayer and it wasn't that bad after awhile. I'm too used to Halo and PC games not running like crap, lol. It is a shame the frame rate sucks though.
I was kind of hoping that overclocking the N64 would help, but last I heard it didn't make a difference as the slowdown isn't caused by clockrate. I wish there was some fix for it, I really do.
