I think all ROMs should dumped for prosperity, but I don't neccesarily think they should all be distributed. If you own a one of a kind prototype, dump it, but decide you don't want release it, I have no problem with that. As long as the info has been dumped in case your proto dies of bit rot. As time goes on, more and more games will be lost to degredation. ROMs (and emulation) will be the only way to experience some of these in future generations. I think preservation is very important.
I agree with you about those. Esspecially the NES. You're better off running a good emulator like Nintendulator, Nestopia, FCE Ultra, or some of the other great NES emulators than playing the actual console. Atleast, you are if you don't use a standard CRT TV anymore. The NES looks really crappy on a good LCD because it only outputs composite video. But with my Xbox, I can output component video and actually output it in progressive scan as well. Same with SNES and Genesis. Also I noticed playing my real Genesis on the LCD you see alot of garbage you don't see on a CRT (tube) display it seems. Atleast in Battletoads I did. Yet on the emulator you don't. The only thing you really need though when emulating is a comfortable controller. I use adapters to use PSX dual shock controllers and it works quite nicely.
It is thanks to wonderful emulation that X360 runs XBOX games. Conker is the technological achievement of its era, and I m still scartching my head on how they made it work on 360. Truly amazing, Kudos!
Emulation is inferior in every single way if you ask me. However, it opens worlds to those who would never bother hunting down old hardware. Perhaps some will wind up here, after a long voyage of discovery. But like blended whiskey, there's no substitute for a single malt. The connoisseur gamer knows the pure, original product. The casual gamer consumes the equivalent of processed cheeze whip; something so far removed from the quality of the original as is possible.
it isn't stricktly true ;-). Blending whisky is a very complex and technical process involving people with VERY good nosing abilities ;-) i couldn't do it but the people who do can make something amazing that can beat the pants off any single malt ;-) where as a single malt can be exceptional but not all of them are. alternatively some grain whiskies can be exceptional and if you get the opertunity to try certain single grain whiskys please do as they are VERY nice. (vatted malts can also be much better than single malts :icon_bigg) but enough about whisky :icon_bigg
depends on which one and bushmills 16yr old single malt (irish whiskEy) is probably better than alot of scottish whiskys (i'm scottish before you ask just really like my whiskys no matter where they come from :icon_bigg:icon_bigg)
price wise? pint is much the same as a single whisky in Scotland..... sure you get more drink for your £ but taste wise :dance::dance: whisky wins :icon_bigg and i shall go back to lurking :033:
Well my stance on emulation?? well i am split on my desicion because its a good way to preserve old games and a good way to see how a game would have looked like and how they would have played . But it is not the same as owning the particular game and console that its for becuase you will never get that same experience sitting in front of a computer using a keyboard/pc controller or playing it on an xbox with that controller I also beleive that seeing the console and its controlers along with the games in their cases\boxes is satisfying and you can't get that with emulation :noooo:
I have tried mount gay, holidays to barbados and the rum factory are a great thing! Spiced rum is just more interesting to drink than normal rum, not that I would turn down Mount gay, even if I do feel silly ordering it at a bar..
This is way off-topic, but what the hell, I envy your barbados trip, really. I drink my rum straight on the rocks, and downing bottles of Mount Gay was always more pleasant than Bacardi superior or whatever bacardi crap (except maybe Bacardi Oro or 131). Captain Morgan's Black bottle isn't bad, but Mount Gay's spiced bottle is on my top. Extra Old followed by Eclipse
Ok back to emulation, how do people feel about killing a legit cart to play a translated rom. Im in the process of having a wonder project J cart turned into an perfect english one. I feel its a fitting sacrifice to allow me to play the translated rom on real hardware. Planning on starfox 2 next hehe.
The person who made the starfox 2 card said its been fixed & translated into english. We spent ages playing it, it was amazing to play it for real. It ran pretty smooth & no slowdown too. Didnt crash either theres a pic of it at the games meet we went to. http://www.flickr.com/photos/57788665@N00/sets/72157594417297135/ btw im the beardy one in the white check top (^_^)
