I can't remember specific games from the last 20+ years of playing, but I definitely had issues with spending hours trying to beat a boss character, only to find the computer/console/game crashes just when you're celebrating eventually beating it!

Beta testing Borderlands and being told to do a full playthrough on the PS3 version of the game when the save feature was malfunctioning, resulting in the system randomly deleting your game whenever you powered down the console.

Back when the SNES was the only console I had, I couldn't wait for Yoshi's Island to arrive here. Got it right after launch, and put quite some amount of work into it (this was long before I noticed I really suck at jump and runs).
After weeks and at about 80% of the game, I turned on the SNES one morning, only to see the title screen was scrambled. Turned off, on again, and the saves (ALL OF THEM) were gone.

Secret of Evermore, on multiple occasions.
When controlling the dog, you can fire an almost unlimited number of spells by opening the boy's ring menu; the wait time that would kick in when you were controlling the boy directly does not apply. Works almost everywhere, besides in the fight against Bastet; there, it just freezes.
Same game, in the space station. Hadn't saved for hours, and also forgotten to turn off the light in the greenhouse. At the end of the first long vertical walkway, the plant got me for 999 damage.

After completing Paper Mario on my N64 to the point where I have collected everything; randomly the game will crash with either debug information or will have a bunch of garbled screen having greenish yellow lines all over the place and the music would still play. This seems to happen even on incomplete files. Now, I was one of the kids who would freak out when shit like this happened in games to the point where I would turn the lights on and open the door.

Silent Hill Origins, so....so....sooooooo many bugs...

I'm a die hard Silent Hill fan, and I still to this day have never completed it because the half-assed-ness of that game pissed me off so much that I'm filled with hate inside whenever I see it on screen.

Don't tell me you weren't scared when a game crashed for no sudden reason when you playing it alone in the dark.

The C64 was one SCARY-ASS machine when it crashed. The sudden noises, random distortion, characters, and screen bugs - that shit was major nightmare fuel for an obsessive 8 year old boy with a very active imagination playing late at night.

So yeah, I feel your pain.

Fun one I encountered in Fallout: New Vegas.

Was helping the Kings settle their feud with the NCR, got to the point where a battle started under the freeway overpass with a sucessful and peaceful resolution. Went back to the leader of the Kings to report and there were NCR soldiers everywhere inside the place. He started talking to me using "face to face" dialogue while not in that particular communication mode.

About halfway through the spiel the NCR soldiers pull out their guns and kill everyone, Rex included. Failed a bunch of missions on the spot. Reloaded a slightly older save and the same quest went off without a hitch.

One of many times I had to reload an old save though...

I had an issue on my 4th play through of Fable III last night. I had just left a mission, the game appeared to save - but my graphics bugged and for the most part the game became unplayable. I figured the game was saved, so hit the power button. My PC shut down, but the bugged images were still on screen which had become unresponsive. I pulled the plug on the screen, rebooted my PC and all seemed well - except for my save game had corrupted and it was my screen at fault all along arf!

Lately it's been Spider-Man: Web of Shadows. Falling through the world, enemies not spawning correctly, Spidey freezing mid-QTE and the game kind of crashing around him. For as busted as the game is (and it is HEAVILY flawed), it's still a decent amount of fun.

The worst bug to me, was in Super Mario Bros 3. Right at the end when you're fighting Koopa. I'd finally killed him, and this weird PAUSE glitch came up, where it was super bright on the screen, and wouldn't un-pause. I had to reset it to fix it. Major bummer to my 7 or 8 year old self.

They are two instance where I had to restart some part of the game due to bugs. Well to be honest they is probably more than 2 but these are the ones that I remember.

Lunar: The Silver Star Story (Sega CD)

I killed the final boss of the game "Magic Emperor" and I was on my way to go see Athena.
When I reached the top where Athena is located, instead of triggering the video, it went to a 1:1 battle: Alex (Hero) vs the Magic Empreror.

Sadly, I died and I had to redo the last boss to finish it. I was surprise the 2nd time that the 1:1 battle did not occurs.

    Da Vinci Code (Xbox):

At some point in the game, you are walking in a small path. If you go to close from a bridge(?), there is a dog barking and your character do a jump backward.

During that part of the game, there is a AI controlled character that follow you.

So, i went too close from the dog and I jumped back, however the 2nd character was blocking the path so every step I did was triggering the "dog barking" event.

At the end, I had to restart from the last save point cause it was impossible to go forward.

My worst is when I was programming for Gore. I was working on a bug in single player. The level was Temple. It was suppose to end after you killed all the AI and headed into the teleport. Spent about 2 weeks time trying to figure it out. In the end I forgot to set the level for single player mode in the config file.
