Im not going to sit here and mock and make fun. That is really is pushing me away from this site.

Mike Kennedy, founder of RETRO magazine is heavily involved in the behind the scenes work, all the stuff that will make this actually come out he is handling. He is the one that acquired the jag molds and rights.

But all the politics that has gone on in the past year with american indie developers and gamergate, i just will not spend money on indie stuff from the US anymore. And the scene is about dead anyway isnt it?

If i were doing this console id would be trying very hard to get Japan indie developers to make games for it. That would turn this from a phone with a cart slot into a unique system. I love the idea of getting japan style old school games on a cart and i would buy them. They would be collectible. US indie stuff...meh, not so much, they are stuck with PC never to escape im afraid.

But alas, i think i know how it will turn out.

I have no issue with Mike, love his new magazine Retro. I just don't see how this console fits into the marketplace at all? I may have been somewhat interested with new case. I loathe everything about the Jaguar.

Its not like I need another retro console; but, depending on its library - I might be game.

They have announced their first game called "Adventure of the Tiny Knight", there is a screen shot here.

Looks rubbish. This console will need to compete with the MD and SFC if it's to get any serious attention and I doubt it will :(

That screen shot looks ugly as hell, a £30 Raspberry Pi can run games like Minecraft or Quake 3 and emulate Mega Drive and Snes etc..

Why would anyone want this console, it looks like a jaguar, it's cartridge based in 2015 and has ugly graphics.

Hardly. I only like developing for consoles. I despise the mobile and PC ecosystems, though I will probably port my Morpheus game to the Oculus Rift at some point.

I unsubscribed his Youtube channel long ago. To me, most of his video seems to be commercials.

I don't think it's a terrible idea, though going with the Jaguar mold is probably not the best idea. I don't see why they couldn't use flash memory for games on current gen consoles. The PS4 and Xbox One both have USB 3.0 ports - why couldn't they release games on small USB flash drives? The systems could run the games off of the drives themselves, which would be faster than loading from a disc or a HDD. You would get almost the speed of a normal SSD, but without having to install one. This is something they could do right now.

Same here. All his videos over the last few months are all adds. His editing skills need a lot of work too.

edit: Screw this rant, make your own judgement about the console. It would be nice if they bought older IPs to make ports/sequels for the console. That would make it something special, as for now there's nothing much attractive in it.

I'm surprised no one is talking about that horrendous controller...

And, if it's "16 bit", and I mean, SNES-Castlevania-like and not SOTN-like, why the need of the analogue sticks? Just put 3 buttons and it's done...

Again I think us as a collective could pull a better console out of our ass.

Unsubbed him ages ago, fame got to his head sadly. Making a website, making his own 'game', continuing to be a sell out. I could say the same thing about many cosplayers, once they become sell outs I'm no longer interested in their content.
Since most of the time if they are sell outs, their opinions or views are not honest.

On the topic of Gamester81's editing skills, they've never been great to begin with. Sometimes they come out botched he doesn't bother to reupload or fix it.

I can't see how they expect this to be a success - I don't imagine that they have the budget to pay people to makes exclusive games for it (to attract people to buy the console to play those games), and without some killer games it's just not going to sell to more than a few hundred, to hardcore collectors. For most people, if they want a retro console like this, then they just buy an original Xbox or Wii, mod it, and put on emulators and roms from the ZX Spectrum, C64, NES, SNES, Megadrive/Genesis, arcade (via MAME or similar), etc.

And even if this new console does somehow become successful, then I doubt that the makers of it will have spent the fortune on it's protection that Microsoft, Nintendo, and Sony have spend making sure that their consoles can't be (easily) hacked to run pirate games. So the Retro VGS will, if enough people buy it, soon have a method of hacking it to run it's games from SD card or hard drive, which will negatively impact on game sales.

I'm not trying to be negative, I'd love to see this succeed (not for me, I'm not interested in a console that only runs retro games, but its always nice to see something new in video gaming) but like almost everyone, I can't see what the USP of this console can be that makes it's makers think it can be a success.

Still, it'd be great to be proven wrong.

Oh man, this project is a constant source of amusement for me:
So let me get this straight. They are proudly declaring this to be a retro console and showing off a game with 2D graphics. Now they are saying their choice for using cartridges is justified so they can include expansion chips? It's 100% clear to me now that these guys have zero clue about hardware design.
